So could you book a hotel with travel credit, then when the year rolls over call the hotel and ask to change the reservation to add days then pay the additional cost with the same card to use the refreshed credits?
For the AMEX PLATINUM card I lost 35$ on the 200$ travel credit.
I had used 115$ YTD. I went and charge 2 seat assignments. Each one 55$. I only got credit for one of them as they told me that the remaining 35$ was less than the 55$ that I needed and that they do not give partial credits.
A) No Biz Platinum
B) On Sale Shirt/Polo Shirt, Cream/lotion for spouse
C) All FHR stays
2021went to Lisbon stay at Penha Longa Resort (Ritz Carlton) for $260 per night, out of pocket $60 after $100 credit paid nothing (spent at Hotel for dinner), Room upgraded, small gifts (chocolate, dessert, wine) and Breakfast
2022 went to Cannes at Hôtel Martinez (Hyatt) for $250, $100 credit paid for breakfast for other family members room upgraded, bottle of wine (gift) and breakfast
2023 Park Hyatt Niseko Hanazono in Japan $440 expect another great stay there
From my experience hotel at Europe/Asia take membership more seriously and treat you better.
And I am from East Coast I would much rather spend extra 1-2 hour flight time to Europe instead of going to Vegas

I’m getting rid of Amex plat, annual fee too high, I got better value with hotel cards this year, $695 for drinks in centurion not worth it for me.

⌚️ I am able to get the Ritz Carlon card but thinking to do it after the new year as I get automatic gold status at Marriott and can start working towards platinum from there. What is your recommendation with that?
Other cards I hold are chase reserve- thinking to downgrade that and I just got the venture x. I don’t want more than 2 high annual cards at a time if I end up getting the ritz card.
