Very few people beat the market. Grow with the market and don't be greedy. Bears win, Bulls win, Pigs get Slaughtered!

SCHB (50%), SCHF (20%), and SCHG (30%) for someone in their 20s or younger.

Although SCHF isn't as good as VXUS due to lack of foreign extended markets. It makes up for it by having a lower expense.

People not interested in — or intimidated by — determining allocations for different sectors, might consider Vanguard Target Retirement funds. They have an expense ratio of 0.1%, and are truly “set it and forget it.” You select your likely retirement date, pick the corresponding fund, and that’s it. Your portfolio is rebalanced over time for higher risk (and hopefully higher returns) early on, and gradually transitioning to a more conservative allocation to protect accrued growth. Just contribute regularly (dollar cost averaging!) and watch it go. (Or, better still, DON’T watch it; that can tend to make one nervous.)

I’d recommend VUG as well, it’s been very good to me. I’d actually replace VXUS, it’s too volatile for me.

I have the three-fund portfolio. It's simple, very low fees, and it's tax efficient.

I just dumped my FA that I was paying 1% fees to and finally designed my 3 fund portfolio at Vanguard! For the longest time I had wanted to do it, but I now in my early 30s I finally built the courage. I feel so much better!

What would be a good 3 fund portfolio for a taxable account? I am already retired with State Pensions and SS. I am currently putting money in VTI ETF. Would like to stay only Vanguard.
