In this video we discuss the Amex Gold Card losing the airline fee credit, which is a $100 airline credit for fees like checked bags and lounge access, not for flights or gift cards. The Amex Platinum also gas a $200 version of this credit, but it was kind of out of place on the gold card since the card doesn’t focus so much on travel.

UK Gold Card holder here.
We get Priority Pass membership as part of our annual fee along with 2 lounge passes. It wouldn’t surprise me if that’s what Amex will be offering to their American Gold customers.
Streaming credit!
TBH I hope that they just lower the annual fee to $150 rather than adding some benefit redeemed by credits. Hard to say what it could be. I doubt it will be Uber Eats. Really wish the Green had better categories cuz i would have all three. Also wished they fix how Plat travel credit can be used.
Does amex travel credit for online purchase of AA Admirals Club
This change in benefit could be an answer to chase
I also would like them to drop the by $100. Another benefit I would like them to change is the $10 a month credit on different restraints and GrubHub and make it just $120 that you have for the whole year be able to use it all at once.
I use the credit for baggage. But if they lower the annual fee I’m all up for it. I hope they add the centurion lounges for the gold.
Give us a $100 grocery or dining credit
I got this card in place of Amex EDP. If it loses $100, without AF change, than it doesn't worth anymore, since I value their restaurant credit at half price ($60), so effective AF becomes $190, I will either go back to EDP or just use Citi Premier (3x on groceries).
I'm looking for wallets.
aMEX …… Get rid of grub hub
I just realized this dude have another channel talk shit about China. Lol 😂 just found it funny.
Amex May move that credit to retailers since they want the Platinum to be more valuable for travel. This would increase traveling around the world since it has taken a hit due to the pandemic. Plus, retailers can be of food, merchandise, etc kind of like how Apple is creating their own “select retailers” benefit.
They probably won’t do the Uber credit since the Green Card’s purpose is general travel, General food. If they were to swap the Loungebuddy, then there would be an update to the Green Card as well.
I feel I'm one of the few who can still get value out of the travel incidental credit, judging by others who say they don't use it anyway. I use mine on AA seat fees and actually get a decent seat. Additionally, its been nice when running the Gold/Plat set up to be able to have credits at 2 separate airlines for those of us budget gypsy travelers that don't necessarily have unshakable loyalty to an airline but more so to our wallets. I'm disappointed this is going away BUT I'm looking forward to see what Amex does it it's place. I think you're right about the loungebuddy credit, which I personally am less enthused with.
Thanks Shifu!
God please no more of these stupid monthly credits i never use. I used these for bag fees especially since most of the good first/business flights for me are out of NY and i have to hop over from Boston 40 min away.
Can you do a review on the new chime bank credit card? I’m trying to figure it out before I sign up.
Hey Credit Shifu, what can we do with our $100 incidental fee if we can't travel this year?
Grandfathering in for the rose gold card or nah ?
I have the Amex every day card and it basically feels to me like the gold is the every day just on steroids. But for what the gold card offers currently the airline credit does seem a little odd in comparison with what is normally used for. It seems like the Chase Sapphire would be more relevant to have something like that since it’s more of a travelers card.
Wth man It’s the only card that has multiple perks in different areas of interest. Now we have to find a card just for airlines how exhausting
The delivery service is garbage. Give me something better then that. Like 5 points for every dollar at restaurants instead of 4. That’s better.
Might close my gold unless they give me a retention offer next month
I have two us bank cash plus 5% fast food 5% streaming and internet, 5% phone bill 5% department store
Literally got this card today and you answered my questions before I even had to search for them. Thank you
Can you please review the TreeCard?
Did you get any info on the Tomo card?
Couple thoughts:
1) I think they're doing this to encourage more people to double up either a green/gold or gold/platinum combo so that they can reap more annual fees.
2) IMO the airline credit was actually more useful and enjoyable than the 10$/month food credit. I fly 5-10 times a year and getting some free baggage checks/beers on the plane is nice. Getting 10$ off a 30$ food delivery that I would never otherwise waste my money on is dumb. It really should let you spend the 120$ all at once since restaurants like Cheesecake Factory and Ruth's Chris are included.
Id be perfectly fine w switching to Uber credit
I hope for a travel credit that you can use on airfare, gasoline credit, or free membership at the lounge network of your choice or at least 4 visits or something, like United Club card does
Expand to the food credit to more places than just the 4 they currently have. Surprised this has not been done yet.
Bring back the gift card trigger capability.
That's harsh, I actually like the airline credit.
