Today we look at the new grocery bonus category on the two Sapphire cards, the Chase Sapphire Preferred and the Chase Sapphire Reserve. This category has been brought back for a limited time. It makes the cards especially attractive now that the Preferred has an 80k sign up bonus and the Reserve is allowing the $300 travel credit to be used at grocery stores and at gas stations as well.

Nice, good way to cash out UR for groceries. 1.25 and 1.5x is a great value

I think it was $1500 for May and $1500 for June 2020 cause I spent $200 in May and $1500 in June and got 5x on all.

When did they change it to every card member year versus every calendar year?

I'll probably beef up my grocery store gift cards and buy airline giftcards here and there so i'll be ready for an international trip when we can again. I was supposed to hike the Camino De Santiago in Spain in July but….

They need to update the CSP. Outside of the sign up bonus, the card is by far the worst of the group.

Temporary benefit and underwhelming. Chase needs to do better. I’m already down to just the Ink preferred, Ink cash and like 3 freedom cards. Sapphire cards offer too little value.

I have a situation I would like your guys opinion. I currently have 2 student credit cards with 8 month credit history. I want to open the Freedom Flex after a year of credit but I would also like to open a checking account with Chase to create a history with them. I don't qualify for the Student SUB nor the regular SUB since I don't work or receive financial aid. Could I use an Amex Serve card to get that direct deposit bonus or use some of these selling apps that have ACH funds transfer (like GOAT and Poshmark)?

I want to apply for the Freedom Flex, but Idk if chase is giving out a lot of flexs, I have a fico of 720, have 2 cards, credit length of 10 month, and income of $50,000. What are my chances?

Sticking with Amex Gold, own no Chase cards. Hyatt is on my 2021 wish list. If they ever come out with a "Chase Ink Reserve", I may stick my toe in Chase's ecosystem.

I started working on my trifecta in reverse for a few reasons but essentially I just got my freedom unlimited a few weeks ago, so I will be using it for grocery stores. I'm just bummed that Costco is considered a shopping center instead of a gocery store so I don't get the 5x on the majority of my grocery shopping expenses. I am hoping that in a year this offer will still be around on the flex, I feel like i would get a lot more value out of it than the amex gold.

I downgraded my Chase Sapphire Preferred Card to the No Annual Fee Sapphire Card as I still get better earning rates on other cards. I use Chase Freedom Unlimited for 5% back at groceries as part of my Chase Cash Back setup.

Come on Chase, do better 😤 still no match to the Freedom cards especially with the one year 5x bonus on groceries!

I also saw this! I have the chase reserve and my annual fee is up but they added the category and decreased the fee down to 450 for all renewals up until this year. AND great deals on apple product! 🙂 thank for the quick update

Nothing here that any Sapphire card user can't get elsewhere for free. The AmEx Blue Cash Preferred nets 4.42%, the Blue Cash gets 3% with no fee and the Freedom cards get 5%, transferable to your Sapphire account. If I actually had a Sapphire card with a fee, I'd be insulted.

I recently product changed my Freedom for the Flex because of the mastercard benefits (I don't spend much so I have no reason to have both), but I received the card today and realized it doesn't work with samsung pay (yet) and doesn't have contactless (which is very important for me right now because I don't want to touch pay terminals). 😂

Great video! Sorry, I'm still a bit confused. If I have a new Chase Sapphire Preferred and I also just got the Freedom Unlimited… Which is better for groceries? What's the difference between 5x and 5%, as I heard you say both when referring to Chase Freedom Unlimited?

I have the Savor Card with the highest cashback (no fee cause I got it early on.) Is this update to the Sapphire Card Prefered Card better than that? I can never tell.

If I was rejected for the CSP, should I try the freedom Flex card this month or wait a few months?

I hope the CSR offers more value, because at this point there’s little point in having it if the point earning categories are the same and more for the Flex and Unlimited cards. I’m only keeping mine for the extended warranty purchase protection benefit.
