Hey Sebby, I try and apply for a new credit card every 3 months. I’m coming up on that time to get another but I did just finance a car. Will that be a red flag when applying for the next card? Thank you!

Does it make sense to keep it for one cycle and then downgrade after? I just received my $300 travel credit. I will get charged the annual fee in April. I can't see myself using these additional options such as door dash or lyft.

Hi Sebby… i was one of those who considered canceling and to just put everything on my AMEX cards. However, after recently trying to book a hotel and flights through both Chase portal and AMEX portal, it looks like chase points are worth 1.5x to 2x more than AMEX points. Somehow, I was under the impression that the other way around was true. I was able to find the same exact flights to and back from SFO for 19,000 points but it would take 32,000 points in AMEX portal. Same hotel and same nights costs me per night at 22,000 Chase points, but it would cost me 49,000 AMEX points. This is a big surprise to me (I’m new to AMEX ecosystem). So, I’m definitely keeping my CSR.

What if I have the chase business ink preferred card? Would it be worth it to keep the CSR card?

I had pretty much decided to upgrade my CSP to a CSR after my first year would be up, but not anymore 😞

Sebby, have you considered sticking with the Ink Business Preferred for 3x travel and relying on other non-Chase cards for dining? If you did this and closed the CSR, would you come out even further ahead?

If you're middle income and do not own a small business then it is definitely not worth it. It was already tough enough to overcome the annual fee after the 1st year bonus.

Thanks for the calc. In my case it makes sense to downgrade. I have a reserve card since March 2019 and I don’t want to pay the $450 fee that will be applied next month at the 1 year mark. When do I request the downgrade to the preferred? After they charge the $450 next month or do I request it now? Thanks.

Do I have to use my points before I downgrade my CSR or can I downgrade to a no AF card and keep the points there while slowly using them?

After being sure that I got all my travel credits back I just down graded from reserve to Preferred. I was due to renew in June 2020. I got credited back 150.00 of annual fee. The credit adjustment will show back when your annual fee first got posted to acct. Just thought I’d share if there anyone undecided or have no more use for card.

Did I hear you right? Are the Amazon credit cards keeping the roadside assistance? If so, I'm definitely getting the business version.

Thanks again. I basically took my 2019 spend summary on the reserve and added that in your calculator and it gave me a pretty positive number which tells me I should keep it year 2 as well. However, this number can greatly vary depending on the percentage filled in the "Oppurtunity Cost" field. This is the only confusing field. What percentage I should use in "Opportunity cost". I am primarily comparing this to the preferred card (incase I want to downgrade) so what opportunity cost should I put in this field? Not sure how we calculate this percentage? Thanks.

Just received my CSR. Very glad I received it as it's my third credit card and I'm stationed in the UK so I will rack up points traveling all across Europe. Plus no annual fee lol.

Funny how people waste so much time worrying about spending $100 when they could have taken that time worrying and made more money doing something productive. 👍🏽

I think for me it is that since these changes have been in effect this year, is that all my travel plans are cancelled until further noticed. So that means all my travel bonuses will be wasted for this year, Unless Chase wanted to do something about it, there is no point in keeping this card. I don't use Doordash or Lyft and I only rent when I am traveling and so I think that it is not worth it for this year or the renewal year when that comes along.

My 4 years of having CSR is in October, can I downgrade it to CFU and reapply for CSR to get the bonus again? Should I downgrade before or after applying for CSR again?

If I cancel the reserve I imagine I would lose the increased value of those points, correct? Do I need to keep it until I use/transfer those points?

Revisiting this video as my CSP is up for renewal and considering upgrading. Although much has happened since this video that resulted in new/limited benefits, this is still very helpful. Thanks!

Chase just sent me a message that I’ll get the $100 credit to reduce the card cost still for the next year. My renewal was due in May, to me it was a welcome surprise. Just an FYI, I already get a lot of value out of this card. Just makes this card worth that much more to me.

I just went into a chase today and applied for the ink unlimited (approved 🥳) and I also recently updated my sapphire preferred to the reserve! The agent I spoke to said ‘it’s a good thing, I recently heard they’re talking about no longer offering the $300 travel credit to anyone applying (after a potential announcement)”… but those already with the card will be grandfathered in. Maybe just a rumor, but heard it from a chase branch
