Well we are on our way to the UK for christmas, I had booked the new British airways Club Suite business class. My flight was originally from Newark but got switched to JFK at the last minute. I worried it may actually end up being the old business class which would be disappointing. More on that in a minute.
At JFK British Airways has now put a wall around the First and Business Class check in, so you don’t have to mix with the peasants. Although no lounges were open in the terminal because of the ronies. Business still seemed to be functioning as usual, capitalism baby.
Anyway lets jump to the plane, BA boarded the plane from back to front to maximize social distancing. And to my relief it was indeed the new club suite,
this seat is a big improvement from the now very dated club world business class. Anyway, let me give you a tour of the seat.
From that you probably got an idea of what the seat is like. The main selling points are that every seat faces forward, has direct aisle access, a 17 inch screen and to top it off a door that closes to give you a completely enclosed suite.
They do not know how good they have it.
Now we will review the flight, you get this amenities kit which has all this stuff in it. Here is a better view of that. No drink on the ground, I think that is a service cut back because of the ronies, and yeah you do have to wear a mask, but they were pretty relaxed about it. As long as you appeared to be making the effort to wear it most of the time, they weren’t mask nazis if it slipped below your nose or you had a long break from it while drinking and eating. IN the club suite you are pretty socially distanced anyway, and there is a little shutter you can close if you don’t want to see the person next to you. Bye. Ok that’s my wife I’ll get in trouble for that.
Now after take off, we were offered a drink, I went for a tonic water with lemon. Then the food came out pretty quick. Right now they are serving it all at once in a disposable box, because of, you guessed it, the ronies. But the good thing is you don’t need to wait for service. Non stop Dan complained about long waits between courses on his review of this product. And want to know a secret? If you ask for a second helping of the main course, they actually give it to you. Yeah I know it looks like mush in this container, but the flavor was pretty good. And I really liked the chocolate mousse.
It seems some people were interested in an alternative meal.
After take off they kept the lights dimmed. I looked at the choice of movies and there was literally nothing I wanted to watch. Very strange, maybe it is just me. Anyway I ended up watching a Red Bull documentary about freeride skiing and after that prepared for sleep. When you close the door you have this really nice carpet type material that looks like it cancels out noise, but it probably doesn’t do anything. It gives a cosy feeling though.
I turned my seat into a bed and I discovered the only bad thing I found on this flight, what is this canyon in the middle of the bed? It is about three fingers wide and you feel it under your butt when you lie down. I feel like there needs to be a mattress pad with this seat, but nothing was provided. I solved it by stuffing my hoodie into the chasm. But seriously BA, sort that out, you have an awesome seat, why ruin it with an uncomfortable crevasse right under your butt?
Anyway I closed the door and had a really good night’s sleep. When I woke up it felt like only a few minutes had passed, but we were already almost at our destination. I skipped breakfast, was still full from my double meal, played a couple of games of chess, realized I still suck at it, and prepared for landing.
So in total I would give this flight 8 out of ten. The food was not as good as Japan airlines, the best plane food I have ever had, but still ok, despite the presentation and the seat was not as good as Singapore first class suites. But in terms of an all round package, combined with affordability, it was a strong product. The door on the suite is a great feature, but to be honest it would still be a strong product without it, half the people on the flight didn’t even close it. The trim and features of the seat are a big step up from BA’s club world product and I really look forward to the return flight. Enjoy your holiday
The ronnies. That’s funny 🤣😂
Great video, love the funny comments- ",,,it seems some people though were more interested in an alternative meal…" LOL
Merry Christmas. I didn't know the UK was open for travelers. That SUPREME HAPPINESS in your eyes when you realize that you were in the NEW business class suite says it all–PRICELESS!!!
That look from your wife…we all know that look well.
Very nice happy holidays to you and family
Crazy that I used to watch these every week and this is the first I've seen in forever. Thanks for the review.
Is it possible for me to ask how much it costed you? Or how many points it costed
Please review some cards in the UK.
Only in ba does business look better than first hahaha
Thanks for the review but why do all of us have to be PEASANTS for? It makes it seem that you are better than people who are less fortunate credit wise because of our credit being DESTROYED by Identity theft. It is so bad that I can't even get a secured credit card from it being that bad. Other than that your videos are informative considering no matter how hard I try to get credit established I can't! Merry Christmas to you and your family.
It’s not because of cutbacks that you don’t receive a pre flight drink at the moment. We still have the same amount of booze on board. It is so we can minimise contact with pax.
This new business class gives an impression of comfort and a "private" side. Is it me or do I have the impression that there is more storage than before?
Was this the 777-300ER or 777-200ER? I know BA have recently had two new -300ERs delivered but have also refurbished some -200ERs so could be either? Thank you.
Wait so is this business or first
I’m assuming this was an essential trip. Stay safe out there, Shifu, and set a good example.
I wonder what first class looks like?
Chonky.
It's good to see that BA has done away with the rearward facing seats.
Haven’t had the pleasure of the club suite yet but still they look roomier on the 777 than the A350.
"so you don't have to mix with the peasants"……hahah.
Consider me subbed. 😛
Peasants?
0:37 "the ronies 😂
I’ll be taking BA 777 biz class CPT – LHR in a couple months! Looks like 12 hours of bliss
Thanks for the review.. BA's business class was due for an upgrade!!
Can I ask
I’m 6.3 tall and can’t cope in economy seat will an emergency row seat work? As I can’t afford business class lol
Looks sooo good!! which flight code should I choose if I am trying to redeem my miles to get on this new business- class aircraft
That soundtrack is kinda- cool! what is it?
What’s a Ronnie ?
The term “mask nazi“ suggests that you think it is not a good idea to wear a mask properly in order to protect passengers around you.
Awas.om.seat.ballik.bsut.te.reviw.777.jkf.tolof.covid.editon.
Do they provide the blanket and pillow or is that something you have to bring yourself?
Is the configuration on biz class 1-2-1?
You went from JFK to Heathrow….Thats a 7 hour flight max…You really wanted to snuggle down for what 2 hours max…. This video to me sounds you were going from LHR to Perth lol 🙂
I would prefer Jet Blue Mint Suite when it goes over and always wearing a mask until everyone is safe.
I played a couple of games of chess…realized I still suck at it 🤣
Subbed
"Mask Nazis" @ 2:16 – a pretty insulting remark towards cabin crew who are only doing their job….
Its all well and good to order a second helping, if you eat meat. Non Stop Dan is vegetarian, as am I, and they failed to even load his main course on the flight. If you are paying thousands for an upgraded service, then it should be delivered. Even in Covid there's no excuse for crappy boxed meals.
Did you keep the mask on for flying?
I remember my first business class flight as a kid. I was amazed
I just flew this route in business, here’s my take…
The club world suite is pretty awesome, screen is plenty big enough. Film selection was pretty dreadful although I guess there hasn’t been a lot of decent movies made recently. Headphones are good enough although if you have a decent set yourself you would be better with them just remember to take the cable as you can’t connect wirelessly. Seat is really comfortable. Loads of space to put stuff. Electric seat controls are great and it’s easy to get into a comfortable position. Fully flat is pretty comfy, the seat has a bit of a hole where the back meets the seat when it’s flat, I stuffed the bag that the bedding came in in the gap and that made it better. Also if you don’t fully flatten the seat, maybe like 95% of the way it seems comfier than fully flat. I’m 6’2 and 260lbs so I’m not a small man and I could lie straight with my feet only just touching the bottom. Slept quite a bit on the flight, not a sound sleep, biggest issue with me was wearing a mask I just can’t sleep with a mask on. They didn’t seem to police mask wearing and you could stretch the “having a drink” and if it slippers under your nose they didn’t say anything. Most folk were wearing them and I think it’s a bit rude not to, the staff have to wear theirs constantly so it’s the least you can do to make a bit of an effort. You pretty much get an overhead locker to yourself, you can access it while standing in your pod which is handy for not blocking the aisles.
Meals were good, a hot main course plane meal is only ever going to be ok in my book, it’s a microwave ready meal at the end of the day but the ones I had were nice, the cold starters and deserts I thought were actually very tasty.
What I think let the experience down for me was the service. I’m not criticising the staff, they were polite, friendly and courteous but they seemed a little overstretched. The 773 I was on had something like 80 business seats and another few in first (not sure how many, was possibly 16) and all the seats were full bar a couple. Small things like my partner and I got our meals about half an hour apart because we were served by different isles (sitting together in two of the centre seats). On the way back we never got an amenities kit, I had to buzz them to clear my tray. Just small things but I would expect better. Don’t get me wrong if you asked for something you got it, but the whole crux of good service is you shouldn’t need to ask.
In terms of the seats there weren’t any that I was like “wouldn’t fancy sitting there” usual stuff the ones beside the galleys and toilets will probably be a bit noisier but that’s always the case. Business was in 3 sections on the planes we were on. The first section was very small only around 5 rows or so and was just behind first, that would probably be the best section, these were already all taken when we booked the flight which backs this theory up. There’s a large section in the middle something like 10 rows then a smaller section at the back with around 6 rows in front of premium economy. That’s where we were and that section was fine. The toilets and business galley are in front of the main section so it was a bit busier with folk walking up and down aisles. I would either sit in the front or rear sections. From some of the available seating maps online I think our plane had quite a lot of business seats, most of the planes only seem to have two business sections.
We were at the front of the section on one of the flights against the bulkhead, this didn’t seem to make any difference to the legroom or anything. You did have a ledge behind the tv screens in those seats where you could chuck bedding and stuff when getting up to the toilet though which was useful.
Our plane had been fitted with the brand new first class suites too which I got a look at when disembarking. It is pretty similar looking to the club suite to be honest just everything is a bit bigger, bigger screen, wider chair that looks to fold into a proper rectangular flat bed (the club suite one narrows at your head and feet) and you sit straight rather than at an angle.
Quick note one the lounges. T5A ones typically busy, the T5B one is a hidden gem though, very quiet. JFK one is quoted as closing at 10pm, they were packing up around that time but the lounge itself stayed open until at least 10:30 when we went to the gate. It was well stocked, probably better than the Heathrow ones to be honest (may be a covid thing, self service is still minimal at Heathrow, you have to order most things) but some of the seats were a bit grotty and a lot didn’t have sockets, didn’t have a view out either.
That’s my thoughts anyway. So in summary club suite – excellent, service – could be better. Biggest pet peeve is still not having the priority lane back at T5 though!
