PenFed Pathfinder Rewards Card Back With HUGE BONUS! – The Credit Shifu

by YouTube Team

Hey credit warriors, and yes the Penfed Pathfinder Rewards card is back, this card discontinued applications in 2019, it was scheduled to come back in early 2020, but you know, 2020. So now finally at the end of 2020 it is indeed back and I am going to tell you what has changed with this card in a few moments, but let’s just look first at some of the benefits.

The card has a $95 annual fee (but this is waived for military personal and Access America account holders), more on that later. There is a $100 annual statement credit for domestic air travel. A $100 global entry credit and complementary priority pass membership, I think you do have to pay visit fees though.

The big selling point of this card is that it offers 4x points on all travel categories if you are an honors advantage member, how do you become an honors advantage member? You need to either be a current member of the military or an honorably discharged veteran, or open an access america checking account with Penfed. In order to open an account you must be a member of the military or just join an organization that supports the military that has a very small annual fee. I have another video that gives all the details, so I will put that on the end of this video for you guys who are interested to know more.

But it is now back with an awesome sign up bonus and it has switched from American Express to Visa, so you can use it at costco. Anyway, the sign up bonus is 50,000 points for $3000 in spending in the first 90 days. Those 50k points can be exchanged for various gift cards including visa pre paid gift cards or Southwest or Delta and they are valued slightly under 1 cent each so Doctor of Credit values the sign up bonus 50k points at $425.

So what is my take on this card now, well great sign up bonus for a card with only a $95 annual fee and if you are an honors member you get the fee waived and you get a $100 airline credit so you are basically $100 up in that case. Then you would also get the 4x on travel as well. But if you aren’t an honors member then there are other cards that are more valuable.

If you are interested I’ll put a link to my in depth review of this card from last year on the end screen. Feel free to check it out. As always subscribe if you are new and we will see you next time bye bye.

Solid offer for a service member, I might apply. Any DPs on approvals with recent inquiries/new accounts?

You do not need to be a member of any organization to join pen fed, I joined 3 days ago. Membership is open to everyone now. Also there is a $10/month fee for checking if you maintain less than a $500 balance in that checking account. Having the checking account makes you an “honors” member and allows full reward levels on its credit cards

I've had this card for 2 years now. I have a Penfed checking account with almost no money it but I'm not a veteran. Does this mean the annual fee is waived for me since I should be grandfathered in? I don't think this card is worth it if I have pay the annual fee.

NOTE: It seems PenFed is now available for anyone to join, although they still ask about eligible organizations in the application, there is an option for "none of the above but I would still like to join"

Love your content aimed at military members! I went from no credit score to over 780 on my last report over about a year and a half to two years by listening to your advice!

Anyone with any experience with this card where the points can be redeemed? It says that it can be redeemed with hotels and airlines, but I'm curious as to which airlines/hotels in particular.

Yo! A no annual fee Visa Card with a global entry credit, $100 incidental credit, no foreign transaction fees, and earns 4 points per dollar on travel. Most cards won’t waive fees for veterans so this is killer and it compliments my Amex trifecta perfectly. Thanks for the video!

I've had this card for 2 years now. I originally got it because Sebby said that 100.00 travel credit is positive value if you're a PenFed Advantage Honors member and I am a member. He's right. I've used it for airline seat upgrades one year and I purchased online (desk top) an American Airlines egift card for 100.00 this year. And I got reimbursed with a statement credit. Awesome!! One hundred dollars for free!!!! Every year! I use my Chase Ritz Carlton Visa Card for my overall travel perks.

If you worked for federal agencies as a civilian that have a military, law enforcement or intelligence primary role you can also easily get in. I got in 3 years ago this way. Former DHS… after that the access America checking gets you the honors membership easily.

Just got approved for this card yesterday. Been waiting months for it to open up again since it switched to Visa its actually useful for me now since I am constantly traveling abroad.

I joined a couple years ago – their savings account rate is very competitive, and I could join by being an American Red Cross volunteer (donating blood to the Red Cross counts for PenFed.) That made this a pretty clear no-brainer – I don't travel enough to justify a high-annual-fee card with a lot of included annual visits, but I like having lounge access if needed, and I was already in the system so I simply had to open the checking account, park $500 in it, and then open the credit card. The $100 fee credit and Global Entry/TSA Pre reimbursement is nice – hopefully by the time I need to renew again NEXUS will be credited as well (likely if the fee amount is the same, which is currently under consideration.)

Overall, this outcompetes my Costco Visa for travel spend (though not the US Bank Cash+ card on ground transportation as a 5% category) and will probably have a spot in my mobile wallet for such purchases. Wish they matched the 2% (or at least did 2x points) for general spend with Honors Advantage that's available with their Power Rewards card – frustrating to need to open that card if I want 2% back on all purchases with a PenFed card.
