I thought you could pool your TY points within the Prestige, Premier, and Rewards + TY family?!?!! Sebby, your blog post set me straight! Even more of a reason not build a Citi setup (i've been wondering why no one talks about a Citi Trifecta)!! For TY point transfer, LifeMiles (Avianca), Singapore Krisflyer, and Etihad Guest are all great programs with great airlines and subsequent partners. I would lean toward Singapore, because their consistency is supreme. I have heard great things about Avianca from other YouTube vloggers though. Finally, I would dump the Prestige and not product change. Your credit wouldn't even be dented if you did. It would be less complicated if you did; you would never use the Citi Double Cash anyways. Agree with your strategy of getting the Citi Premier for the Welcome TY bonus and then sock drawer it.

I have a question I haven’t seen anyone touch on. Is the Amex or chase trifecta worth it for someone who travels but is mostly wanting to use it for hotel stays since I don’t really fly? Or is there another option I should look at?

Hey Sebby, does downgrading reset the 2 year clock on the 2 years for one thankyou points signup bonus rule? Does that mean you need open a new card once 2 years hits and get the bonus and then immediately downgrade your 2 year old card? How does that timing work? Does it mean you need to sign up for a new card with the bonus, earn the bonus in that month, and then downgrade the prestige within that month to get the annual fee refund and avoid paying an extra annual fee? (wondering if downgrading before actually earning the bonus will impact whether you qualify for the bonus)

I feel like having the double cash is pretty decent given the 2 thankyou points per dollar and the cell phone coverage… At no annual fee and being a mastercard its actually a nice "backup" card for Plastiq bills… I feel like 2 thankyou points at minimum equals the 2.5% fee on a plastiq payment so its probably the best card to use as a default for scheduling plastiq payments, and then switching to other cards when you want to hit a signup bonus. The only other card in my book worth using on Plastiq without a signup bonus is the Amex Blue Business Plus, but Amex doesnt work on car payments and a bunch of other things.

I'm pretty new to the travel redemptions game, I've only used thankyou points once so far, I used them transfering to Singapore Airlines to book Hawaii for my family at 35,000 miles to Hawaii round trip… Used up all my Thankyou points to Singapore and topped off with Amex to book for a family of 4.

If you already have a Double Cash, why don't you instead downgrade to Rewards+ since they seem ideal for <$2 purchases?

May I know with all your strategies what is your current credit score ☺️
Also bofa premier rewards is good. 100 every year for airline credit. AA gift card works

There are a couple benefits of the prestige card that make it maybe worth holding even though benefits have declined…

The authorized user priority pass at $75 is one of the best values on priority pass if you have a family member who travels alot but doesnt want a credit card with a large annual fee… My parents are retired and travel alot to unusual destinations so I plan to gift them the priority pass, which gets them unlimited uses for the both of them, any family they are traveling with plus 2 guests, and includes restaurants (amex no longer includes rstaurants). Last year I added them to my platinum amex but they never ended up using the centurion lounge but used the priority pass a massive amount… The 4th night free benefit also becomes easier to use if you add an extended family member to it.

The other benefit which edges out other cards is the cell phone coverage which is a bit better than other cards, $1000 per claim up to $1500 per year, includes both cosmetic damage and lost phones, with a $50 deductible. None of those on their own make it a keeper imho but I feel like given that I use it for dining alot, and I will be accumulating alot more thankyou points now that the double cash earns 2 points per dollar, a citi setup makes more sense… I might downgrade it after year 2…

LifeMiles is also a transfer partner of Amex MR points and the Cap1 Venture, so you might want to keep that in mind if your purpose is primarily to diversify into currencies that are not accessible outside of Citi TYP.

I know I'm late; and this is slightly random, but am I the only person who can't get the Avianca Life Miles website to work? I've never transferred points there because I'm afraid I will never see them again…LOL.

Thanks Sebby – great video. For Citi Prestige the only value I see for the $245 NET annual fee is the cell phone protection (I pay my family cell phone bill with this card and don't use it for anything else). I know Ink Biz provides this too, but that is only for me – family wont qualify since they are not my employees. I have had the Citi Prestige card for about 26 months, have used up my points (in the first year I got substantial benefit out of 4th night free, but did not use that benefit since then, as most of my travel was 2-3 nights or I booked directly with the hotel to avail of other benefits due to my status at the hotel). Is it worth keeping the Citi Prestige card for the cell phone protection benefit or are there other cards that provide same/similar benefits for cell phones. For your transfer, I think LifeMiles makes the most sense.

If you cancel the AA Platinum after the first year, do you lose your AA points or they are incorporated to your AA account?

Are you going to wait until after you earn the bonus to downgrade? I’m in the same situation and trying to determine if downgrading will still keep me eligible for the bonus? I already applied for the card and it’s on it’s way.

Had the citi diamond preferred and switched to double cash no hassle. Was thinking about adding the citi premiere next, but now that they’re eliminating all purchase protection benefits I don’t know if i will.

Aeromexico around the world reward ticket is well worth it, and Citi just added them as a transfer partner.
Aim for it with this strategy:
The Doublecash earns 2 points per dollar, more than Amex MR at 1.6 per dollar, outside of bonus categories,
but you need an active Premier or Prestige to use the ThankYou points from the DoubleCash for flight transfers.
Use the Premier for gas and non flight travel, DoubleCash for everything else, since it's base matches the other 2x category of the Premier.
Amex Gold for restaurants and groceries and Platinum for flights.
Fill in the rest of the needed AeroMexico Club Premier with the bonuses from Amex MRs and Capital One Venture Miles, and you're in for a business class round the world trip of a lifetime with Skyteam!
352,000 needed in total.

I have a small ebay business where I’m spending about 225K a year on inventory. I’m currently using my Citi Double Cash card. Do you have any other recommendations to maximize return for non-category spend? Thanks for taking the time to put videos together for the YouTube community. It’s because of you my credit score is at an all time high.

I may go for a Citi Prestige, just for the "4th Night Free" deal. I can double up on that on a 2-week trip to Paris – stay 4 nights in one place, then switch to another hotel for the rest. It's pretty easy to spend $250/night there, and that would be $500 in value, plus the $250 travel credit, plus the 50K sign-up bonus. Hmmm.

Etihad, because you can use Amex and Citi, and my first flight with them was amazing. Turkish Airlines: Citi is the only points transfer option, and an undervalued Star Alliance member for flights to the Middle East. United was north of 93,000 points for economy, Turkish was 34,000 points return from MIA to AMM during a recent query.

Is now a good or bad time to ask for a product change? The product I would like is more of an upgrade from a card that I really don't use because it has no perks.
