by YouTube Team

There are many different American Airline credit cards, but 2 of the more popular airline credit cards are the Barclay Aviator Red and the Citi AA Platinum Select card. But when it comes to these 2 cards, which one would be the better long term credit card?

I flew AA last week and learned of this offer on the Barclays. Very intriguing but didn't do it while on flight. I think I am going to though. I still don't know why to keep the card long term though. I assume it can downgrade.

Great comparison Dustin. I still like my Platinum Select. Is the Aviator Red a World Elite Mastercard?

I have gold status in AA, so I will probably take the Citi Credit Card and after a year downgrade it

I have the Citi AAdvantage Platinum Select and I will not spend $20,000 on either of those cards. I have other cards that are better. I use the Citi card just for the free baggage when I travel with 6 people which I do twice a year. Neither one is very good other than the use I stated above.

Outstanding comparison, Dustin! As I told you in my email, I got the Barclays Aviator Business this week and the CitiBusiness AAdvantage in December. I will tackle both cards once I'm over 5/24 for their bonuses and downgrade both of them after 1 year, with Citi's version likely to become the Double Cash. Would you be able to make a comparison video for the business versions of both cards?

If you have previously held the Barclays Red, can you receive the signup bonus again?

With the coronavirus and recession/depression do you think bonuses will go up or down or stay the same?

I'm so glad you did this video! 😁I actually have both cards and the points earned from each pool into my American Airlines loyalty account!💳

Really great vid! I’ve been debating on what AA card is best since all our trips this year have been with AA

You mentioned that you don't need to pay with the AA card to get the benefits like free luggage. I got the JetBlue card and I wonder if it's the same for JetBlue because I rather pay with my CSP but I don't wanna pay for luggage.

Should people be worried about AA failing? All of the airlines and travel related companies are getting destroyed right now.

It's May 2020, given the current environment, would you recommend holding off to apply for a new card? Do you think once the economy begins to open up there will be more aggressive incentives and offers coming out? My take is – with unemployment up banks will be more cautious to issue credit, but at the same time they will be eager for new clients.

Hello Waller, great comparison for American airlines cards! Do you know if American Airlines "advanced / multi city search" is working properly as of late today because I am unable to see the advanced search there? Thank you.

So after being turned down by chase for a southwest business for not having a checking account with them even though in their document to me they disclosed my score was 846. Taking your advice i applied and was approved for the citi american airlines advantage platinum card. Odd thing is i also have a capitol one spark and venture card and i found the price of tickets is cheaper thru the capitol one travel portal then thru the americsn airlines site. And yes being turned down by chase traumatized me(I feel scared for life lol)

One other plus to Barclays. The Citi AA cards do not work with Google Play. All Barclays consumer cards work with Google Pay. If found out the hard way when I tried to add my new Citi AA card. AA cards are on Citi's excluded list.

From Citi's website:  All Citi branded consumer credit and debit cards issued in the US are eligible for Google Pay, except for ATM cards, American Express cards, and Citi® / AAdvantage® cards. Citi branded business cards are not eligible for Google Pay, except for US issued Costco Anywhere Visa® Business cards.

I had the Aviator Red in the past but downgraded to a no fee card. If I was to apply again will I be able to receive the bonus?

You said the aviator red card offers a companion certificate in the beginning of the video, in addition to the 60,000 mile bonus. later in the video it says you need to spend $20,000 to get it.. it makes it sounds like the companion bonus is part of the introductory offer. So which is it? Thx

I had the AA Red a couple years ago. when trying to downgrade after year 1 the Barclays rep would not let my downgrade and stated I could cancel the card then apply for the no annual fee version. They may have gave me wrong information, but whatever the case I cancelled.
