The Apple Credit Card is apparently sexist, we investigate the allegations with our own test. Me and Mre CS apply and look at the credit limit and APR we are given.

The argument you make here is over-simplified. The US financial system has been proven again and again to be discriminatory against various individuals. AI has also been proven to be discriminatory. The system of establishing credit lines and credit scores is opaque. These systems are written by humans who are, inherently, biased—intentionally or not.

Apple’s program design, which does not allow the sharing of a credit line, may have uncovered some opaqueness in the system…or maybe not. Either way, we may never know.

Up until this point, I’ve liked your channel enough to watch several of your videos when they’re recommended and was considering subscribing until this video. It’s crap. Just like credit scores, it’s a silly game. Financially responsible individuals don’t worry about their credit scores and don’t have problems obtaining financing when it’s needed. For you to cover this topic makes me not want to watch anything else you post. I’m just one viewer and it won’t hurt your stats but you’re better than this and you’re smarter as well. Don’t stoop.

My partner and I both applied this morning actually while we were in the airport waiting for a flight our incomes are both similar 225k combined My boyfriend has a higher credit score than me and more cards or accounts I guess you could say then I do however my utilization is lower but ironically I got approved for almost $8000 he got approved for $6400 So honestly I really do think it just comes down to each individual account because obviously we both make the same and if anything I should’ve got the lower limit even though he has better credit than me but could also be the fact that I have lower credit utilization or any number of factors I guess

My credit limit is 2.5X my husband’s credit limit. It’s not a sexist system. They just need to have a discussion on what their wife is hiding.

Don’t blame your bad choices in life on a “sexist algorithm”.

I think the problem is income. Did the women put the same income?

Wow, you both got the EXACT same offer as me. Must be the generic offer for good credit within that income range.

What I think is most likely is that the men complaining about this are the primaries on their credit cards, and their wives are only authorized users. Knowing people in my life, this seems far more likely. Maybe they should look at the sexism in their relationships instead

Well done experiment Credit Shifu! Tax returns, marriage length, community property, etc are NOT taken into consideration for credit line approval and most of these complainers are probably used to receiving the same line of credit for joint or authorized user (AU). Separate applications will cause these huge differences. No investigations needed and these complainers need to NOT apply with GS / Apple Card as they don't issue AU or joint accounts.

A few things "protected persons" isnt racist or discriminatory. All ti is saying is that some groups have historically been discriminated against in the past. as a result special care has to be taken to prove that this is not the case. thats it. thats why in south africa, when you fill out forms they cant ask you, your race for pretty much anything.

While i understand it does seem like a lot of work (and it is) to discriminate, that doesnt mean it doesnt happen. Indeed those who want to discriminate are pretty amazing at coming up with ways to do so. especially in banking and finances where you cant usually see a persons race or gender. Please look up the practice of "Red lining" to see this in action. as recently as 2014 banks were fined for and had to confess to deliberately using race and gender when deciding what kinds of loans to offer first time home buyers. they admitted to offering well qualified black borrowers sub prime mortgages that they did not offer non black borrowers

So back to gender and apple, If apple wanted to there certainly things they could do to have gender taken into account. I dont think so because both apple and the issuer have too much to lose.

One thing that has been coming up is that the algorithms are created by people. and if people are not careful and mindful they can inadvertently miss or fail to include something that leads to undesirable outcomes of a gender race type. for example sometimes facial recognition programs struggle to correctly match african american faces. this isnt that the machines or the machines creators are racist just that they may have failed to use enough african american faces to train these programs.

again i want to clarify that i dont think anyone has enough data to say apple was being sexist here, or that this is or is not a pattern. but if it were it is entirely possible that the cause is something that can be easily corrected for once identified. If it is, my guess would be that it might have something to do with name changes, i dont know how credit reports treat those but a lot of married (and divorced) women have problems as a result of systems not being properly set up to easily process name changes.

Your test is stupid. Your 2 tests are not classed as significant sources of data to make an opinion or statement on anything. In other words, the mere 2 tests that you show in this video isn't going to prove anything. It's like saying a broken clock can tell the right time once everyday so therefore this proves the clock works fine.
