A great tip is to fill up your tank once a week ay sams or Costco if you have a membership and they charge no credit card fees + often times give you a good deal on the gas compared to other gas stations.

Is there a way to actually track this bonus spending category on the Chase website? I couldn't find one.

Seems only seems half decent if gift cards code as gas but any way you want to look at it, the grocery bonus was far better as 90%+ of people spend wayyy more money on groceries

Does this apply to the regular Chase Freedom?

This is only for people who sign up during this deal?
I've had my CFF for about 8 months. I missed the grocery bonus. It seems they had that deal and it ended. Then I got my card. Then they offered they grocery deal again. I was in between the two times and got neither.
The gas would be HUGE for me. I spend about $20 per day, year-round at convenience stores and truck stops, most of which code as "gas stations." And that's not even counting my actual gas purchases.

The grocery offer is better, you can buy gas gift cards and earn 5 points per dollar.

I got my FF back in November 2021 and got the 5% at gas station instead of the grocery store. I didn’t see the gas station 5% when I applied but that’s what I was offered.

I was thinking of the trifecta but I spend a lot less on gas than on groceries because I mostly work remotely. So, not interested in these cards anymore. Maybe a year later, I will take a look at these again.

I wish I can get approved for the freedom card, they turned me down despite CS 836, 0/24, 0% utilities and 12 years credit history. I wonder if I should get a secure card to build more credit. Else one last attempt with chase in three months

Gas is better for me as my grocery spend is very low. I personally am not very enticed by the CFU (already have the CFF). There are very few scenarios where I would use 1.5% over a different card. With the gas bonus though, and $200 for $500 spend being such a good bonus $ for $, There's a goods chance I will grab this card sometime this year. 1.5 Chase points is definitely worth more than $0.015 though or 1.5 points from basically anywhere else. That could be $0.03+ through Hyatt, for example. Idk, I need to sit down and figure it out lol.

Definitely a better offer for people who shop at Walmart, and gas is a big spending category. The card got better 😀

I'll only have one personal 5/24 slot to fill this year. I can get 35k points guaranteed (20k SUB + 15k from my gas alone) plus the year of spend/categories. BUT I could also go for companion pass…

I get 5% at grocery stores so I can buy gift cards for places like Boston Market, Red Lobster, Yard house and Buffalo wild wings last I checked nobody's saying no credit cards for gift cards there are limits like say 300.00 at the gas station I have seen this and some places they say no credit cards when buying a gas station gift card?

when I get gas to hold me up for a day or so and i'm spending say 10.00 dollars or 13 I pay cash if I'm filling up for a week then I use my Mobil or Citgo charge cards!

what do you use if your getting gas for say a couple days say your getting 12.00 dollars? cash , debit , gas station card or your credit card?

Ronald Young January 16, 2022 - 4:39 am

I don’t understand! My Experian score was 725 and I have variety of credit cards 1% utilization, 2 of my US Bank cards limit was $12k each and they increase the limit to $15K each and then bam my cross dropped to 695! Why? That’s the ONLY change in my credit!

Hey @Ben Hedges ! thank you for the informative video once again. Can you help me with this question please? What happens to those who got the CFF during the promo where we have the 5% on Groceries in first year (applied and got the card around July-August). Do we have still that + the 5% on gas or it automatically becomes 9% on gas as of right now ?
