I agree with you. People freak out about bitcoin but the government would have to treat it like the war on drugs, anyone found that touches it gets jailtime and I just don’t see that happening when they could just tax it.
The black markets would still use crypto, they just wouldn’t be able to cash out from a financial institution.
Also, I feel like they’ve left it alone for too long. Unless there is like a 911 type event that shocks the world into hating crypto it’d be weird for the government to shut it down. A lot of companies have diversified their liquid assets by investing into crypto. By this point they really can’t afford to crash the crypto market and pissing off big business.
The government has to have a solution for dealing with the taxes of online purchases like amazon anyway. They can’t expect customers to report their online purchases, so its not like crypto would change anything tax wise. Its not like people would start avoiding taxes by paying in crypto.
