Cashback zero annual fee calls to me but then I'm thankful I kept gathering points to save up for international trips every year
I had something like 110 nights in Marriotts last year from business trips so I organically earned Titanium. The properties are quite hit or miss as far as elite benefits – room upgrades are a bit of a crapshoot, they'll give you a "high floor" or something and say that it was and upgrade, when functionally it was pretty much the same room. That said, I have gotten some nice suites here and there, it really pays off to just ask at the desk – if you're there multiple nights, just stop by every day and ask if there are any upgrades available – I've had decent luck with sniping a suite this way. As for other benefits, the best I've found was at the Marquis in San Diego, where I got the buffett breakfest for two included, about $60 value per day. Other places have some BS lounge or will give you a half-assed breakfast included as your benefit. My advice is to call hotels before booking and ask someone at the front desk what the benefits are for your status – it's usually not abundantly clear when looking online. Overall it's been nice to have the benefits but I agree with Sebby, there are better cards to put your spend on than trying to earn status through the "get xx elite nights per $x spent"
Another sore spot – nights that you stay that were paid for with points don't count toward your elite night total. That's a bit of a bummer because I torched most of my points earlier this year and didn't get any closer re-earning my status
5:50 vehicles on the left, tropical flora, is that Singapore's CBD?
Also, (75 – 15) nights * $5K / night = $300K spending for 60 nights, no $250K for 50 nights
I filled out the survey about any card recommendations and never received an email back. 🙁 this was about two weeks ago
Lol I convinced my P2 I wasn’t crazy when we got companion pass for ~2 years. We’ve saved thousands!
I just ordered the Hyatt Card. One of the places I was targeting was the Del Monte property you said was moving to cat 8. I’m thinking of calling Chase and see if they will switch me to CSP instead. Will they do that if I cite the Hyatt Devaluation as my reason?
Loved that Sonic reference 😂
SW keeps finding ways to give out companion passes and keep looking to devalue their points. It's frustrating for people without a CP.
This is why chase is Trash. 5/24 is also trash.
I just met the SUB on the SWBIZ card, 80k points. Was about to get SWPriority. I’m thinking I should wait for that temp SUB offer to expire then get it with a higher point offer. Is that a good plan or should I just pull the trigger now? I’ve spent 7k on the biz card in the last month. I screwed up timing and didn’t get that card until last month.
The old Chase Marriott Business card used to give 1 elite night per $3k spend on the card. I figured that would be the sweet spot for them. But Marriott seems more hesitant than other chains to give out elite status. Maybe it’s because they are so big. But giving away status to credit card spend seems like a no brainer because they will use that status less than normal status holders who are spending 50, 75 or 100 nights at their properties.
But with Southwest, you’re overvaluing the value of those points. I think they are closer to 1.35.
Hyatt las Vegas was such a good price at category 2
I think the companion pass lite is a really nice option for people who don’t love having minimum spends rule their lives and who aren’t super high spenders but have one big purchase coming up. Seems like a genius plan on their part to increase their customer base.
If you spend money on buying gift card from supermarket/grocery store, does that transaction still qualify as “grocery”?
I just got the CFU at the beginning of the year (that 5% back at grocery stores plus $200 for $500 spend was too good to pass up). I thought the same thing about the additional 1.5%. Didn’t make much sense. No way I’m putting $20,000 spend on this card.
Gild Hall looks like another hotel that is into translucent bathrooms. I'm not sure why that ever became a trend in the hotel industry.
Idk I think 10x is reasonable I am getting 15x on my wells fargo for restaurants and groceries.
I am just getting into credit cards & points. I have the Amex plat with about 130k pts. Looking for my next card. Should I get SWP or chase res or pref? We love to travel US and international and that’s what I want to use points. Thx for the help. Love your vids.
Park Hyatt Kyoto is super special to me cause it's prob the nicest hotel i've ever stayed in to date plus it was my gateway into high end luxury hotels when i first got into the points game in 2019. after that booking i was hooked. i'm actually tentatively booked for this fall – we'll see if Japan opens borders before then.
rumor is the PM will talk about easing border restrictions a bit in his meeting tomorrow, but based on what i've read the anticipation is it'll be for students and essential workers first, then non-essential travel will be evaluated at a later date. here's to hoping some meaningful progress is made🤞
Shout out to everyone out there with a spouse who does not give a single f*ck about credit cards. LOL I’ll be going on an on about transfer partners, multipliers, and bonuses. Meanwhile, I’m getting tuned out haha….
I am confused on the CFU trap. You say you get 1.5% cash back or 1.5x points on all purchases till 20k in 12 months but no article states this nor does chase. Everyone says there is no cap. Am I misunderstanding what you are saying?
Mans went off on Bonvay!!! and I love it and here for it<3 TY for all your work! you've helped me build up my credit card game and score up +700
1) SW change, Don't care, I fly AA or DL because miles there can get me to aspirational location outside the US. Also I have Sky Club access. 2) Marriott, Don't care, don't stay with them for business because they screw my company over. Hyatt and Hilton have better programs. 3) Hyatt deval, didn't like the title of the video (because I'm deep into Hyatt). But all the properties you listed are not on my list. Must check the ones I care about. But 70 going up out of 850+ properties, not worried to much. Thanks Sebby.
Would love to see more hotel ratings and ways to book them!
The devaluation of Hyatt (and others) seemed obvious given all the historic offers. That being said, I’d rather pay $150 annual fee than have them change what is or isn’t a category 4 property. Specifically for Hyatt which has a much smaller footprint. Given these restrictions this almost feels more like an end game card, to spite it being a chase card.
Boundless needed a revamp but still is what it is for those that are really playing the game.
