My best guess for the asterisk is that it excludes grocery delivery or excludes Walmart Pay.

Shifu question, I have the amex platinum and CSR and was considering canceling the CSR but also wanted to get the freedom flex I was thinking of applying for that FF and rolling over my CSR credit limit to my Chase Freedom card (Not FF) would that effect me negatively rather then down grading ?

PayPal rocks! Especially now that there's PayPal Key.

PayPal is my favorite. I stack it with dining purchases and end up with a 7% return 4 for PayPal, 2 for dining and 1 for everything.

I'm coming off the "sugar high" from 10x points on Groceries from AMEX Plat in the early part of the year, and 10x (5+5) from the Freedom Flex the last few months. So I need a new grocery card. Thinking 🤔 about the Citi Custom Cash.

I've bought over $4,000 in Visa gift cards at grocery store (not all at once, but in 2-3 months) without mixing in "normal spend" and not had any problem with Chase.

If you "activate early", do you start earning the bonuses for Q4 early and also ending your Q3 bonuses? Or does activating early not affect the timing of bonuses at all?

I need to get this

PayPal is easy. Just send it to your friend at the end of the quarter and have them send you a check. You get 2% for free and 3% goes to the fee. Better than nothing

ProudMoney mentions using PayPal Key and funding it with the Chase card. That way you can use PayPal when you do any shopping online, even stores that don't accept it. I can't say for certain that this will work, but I don't see why it wouldn't.

I don’t plan to use the card in Q4. I never use paypal and there’s no Walmart in my area. I’ll wait for 2022 Q1!

The asterisk is for Walmart purchases via PayPal, it will only be 5%.
I just downgraded my CSR to the Freedom (Visa) last week. It’s still available.

Ugh! I despise Walmart. I refuse to shop there. My wife, however, shops there. I guess she’ll be responsible for meeting this cycle’s bonus category.

Hi Credit Shifu, actually you can still downgrade to Chase Freedom (yes, the one that is no longer available for new applicants), I recently downgrade from CSR then applied for the CSP 100k bonus.

I guess PayPal would go great with any purchases as long it’s through PayPal! I don’t have a Walmart in nyc

I would have preferred a straight up Amazon category in the final quarter as in the past. Walmart not a chance I will ever give them my business and PayPal is a pain to be using just to get to a $75.00 max out bonus. I'll just get half that and not bother.

Reply
Tommy September 15, 2021 - 5:10 pm

It's for PayPal purchases at Amazon. How the fuck do you do that?!? You can use pay pal to check out at the store? Not that i would ever give Walmart my business lol

Reply
Tommy September 15, 2021 - 5:13 pm

They investigate of you buy a gift card lol? Obviously they should know people do it, why is it a problem? You should b brake to purchase only gift card of that's how you choose to use your card lol.

Here's the exclusion list that the asterisk is probably for –

"Non-Walmart merchants operating within or on Walmart premises including merchants that sell fast food, beauty services, and gas stations that are not Walmart branded

Walmart affiliated merchants including Sam’s Club

Local delivery merchants such as Shipt"

Why did they do Walmart and PayPal? Walmart already accepts PayPal online and in stores.

Reply

Thank goodness it's Walmart because I was going to use my discover it card for Amazon anyway. It'd be weird for Discover It and Chase freedom flex had the same categories

Question: Q3 is for Grocery Stores and Select Streaming Services… if I were to purchase a $350 Amazon GC at my Grocery Store, would that qualify for the 5% cash back? If so, would that also work in Q4 by purchasing an Amazon GC using my Chase Freedom Flex through my PayPal account?

If I traveled at all I would get the flex and the preferred. I'm rocking the amazon chase credit card and the amex blue cash preferred.

Just downgraded my first renewal sapphire preferred annual fee to the freedom. Apparently you can’t go from preferred to freedom flex because flex is a mastercard and preferred is a visa. Anyways, so glad I am able to participate in the 5% category and looking forward to maxing out the category because it’ll be easy!
