So I have the Delta Amex platinum, I wanted to get another card for travel, is the Venture X the best choice? Better than the Chase Sapphire Reserve?
I still canโt get past how the Amex Platinum credits are so micro managed. If it wasnโt for that then I would definitely get it but for now Iโm happy with the Venture X. I actually downgraded my Sapphire Reserve because it wasnโt worth it anymore also.
Iโve seen so many venture X videos in my feed recently too! I got it in May.
I think it varies by person to person and their spending habits. To me, yes venture x is by far the best and their benefits that are actually useful to me.
Team AMEX Platinum for me. C1VX is a good card, but it doesn't fit in my setup. I think the best card of 2022 is the WF Autograph card, but I'm pretty sure I'm going to get roasted for saying that.

VentureX is my main card for large Visa only purchases, Costco 2X, 10X Hertz Rentals, AirBNB purchase erase and PP Lounge access. I am getting tired of the Amex Platinum credits.
Still a capital one. Capital one of the worst customer service.
$500 for spark plugs wow indeed. That mechanic must of saw you coming.
AmEx is useless if one does not do Uber/Uber Eats.
Priority Pass for every cardholder authorized user is a big benefit of Venture X vs any AmEx where AU is costly annual fee.
Personal preference always come into place. But I'm trying to research point transfers. Another video showed someone using Turkish Airlines Miles&Smiles points to book United flight. Can any of the other transfer partners transfer to American, Delta, etc??
Shifu is bringing the HEAT as of late!
Been tracking my amex rewards for hilton and they have been failing to give me the 6x on restaurants bc the establishments arent coded correctly. Spoke w retention who were apathetic. The same establishments are coded as restaurant w mastercard but amex jipping me on the points. Closed two cards and notbusing my amex cards go forward. Something seem fishy w the whole situation. They didnt even offer me points to offset….they instead told me to contact the merchants and ask them to re-code themselves in the system. Completely ridiculous. Beware of amex!
The closet skit had me dying๐. This channel has grown so much over the years๐๐ฝ๐๐ฝ๐๐ฝ
Decent card but having the platinum and CSR i would say this card isnt worth itโฆ i see it competing more with the CSP. Entry level travel card. CSR is better and the platinum is wayyyy better. Plus the points earning is borderline useless.
Loved watching both perspectives on the card! Great job to the both of you! ๐ช๐ฝ
Lol I donโt understand why ppl compare this card to cards that earn on higher points on things like grocery and restaurants when thatโs not what this card is? And you canโt everything you want all in one card lol
In terms of lounge access, I think that for families and anyone-other-than-solo travelers the Venture X + AA Executive at $845 (with free authorized users) totally beats the Personal Plat at $870 (with three authorized users).
The VX has Priority Pass restaurants and Plaza Premium lounges while the AA card makes up for the lack of Delta lounges and mediocre domestic Priority Pass options, all while keeping the ability to bring two guests (which Amex is eliminating for most cardholders in early 2023).
Hilarious work with that thumbnail! Made for some good laughs.
Love seeing John's video on this big of a stage. I definitely think the Venture X is a viable card, especially if you aren't quite ready to dive into the travel game with a card like the Chase Sapphire Reserve or Amex Platinum. For the absolute most value in the travel game, the Amex Platinum is the way to go. I completely agree with you, Ben! Great video man.
I've seen that thumbnail 200 times also!!!! ๐คฃ๐คฃ๐คฃ
I got lucky at Schiphol Marriott. They took my gold status even booked thru a third party. Good point about the 75k SUB. I hadnโt thought of doing the math that way. With that math I think Iโll now pass on the Chase Ink Preferred, thanks! Iโm getting great value on the Plat my first year. Itโll be interesting to see what happens year two. Weak points are itโs not accepted everywhere, and the rewards can be hard to use. Liked seeing the commentary on Johnโs video ๐๐ผ
Waitโฆ. So only 1 AU gets priority pass? I thought all 4 of the possible AUs got Priority Pass ๐ง what could someone help me confirm ?
Surprised the Platinum versus Venture X travel comparo by Ask Sebby (March 2022) hasn't haunted you, with it's 100K+ views. I'm Team Amex and Team Chase, but more because I have so many different card earning opportunities across the board. Better value travel card is the Platinum , but if I could only have one travel card card in my wallet, it would be the Venture X, as it covers more spending categories to earn upon.
I disagree that the card pays you $5. When the 10,000 anniversary miles hits on year 2 so does another annual fee.
I only have the CSR, so Iโll be bias. I do like the X annual 10k
I'm not getting the venture x. Having to use their portal to spend the $300 is a deal killer for me. Just got the Amex platinum and having great fun using my coupon book!
Great video but on a different topic, will you be making a video of the new Amex offers posted for September, they have so many choices! Just wanted your insight to make the best transfer with the points I currently have after hitting the bonus on the Amex platinum. Thank you again!
I still canโt force myself to get the Venture X. That is because of customer service. My first card was a Quiksilver with 2500 limit. That was 5 years ago and after calling the horrible capital Ones horrible customer service line, my request to get my credit line increased is rejected. I have a credit score of over 800 so I canโt understand why.
Iโve been a loyal Amex customer since before I moved to the US. At least 10 years. Every single time I call the custom service line, it is an experience. They actually treat you like a valued customer. It is one of the main benefits of having an Amex card and โcredit card guruโsโ rarely mention this. A credit card is more than just credits and Amex definitely wins on customer service.
I have to agree. One can't compare the Venture X to the Big Daddy Platinum Card. They are just too different. Both are great!
AMEX platinum is the winner for me. Only one of the four airports I frequent has Priority Pass lounges. The other three have plenty of Delta, Centurion, and escape lounges, so the platinum gives me the best coverage. I also donโt like that the $300 travel credit Hass to be used within their travel portal. I swore off OTAs after COVID. After all the credits, the Plat ends up being cheaper for me
Venture X is my go to card now for everyday non-category spend. I got rid of my Chase F Unlimited 1.5X card and my Fidelity card 2X card to go all in on VX. Also the VX portal is miles ahead of the Chase portal in robustness and UI.
You can stop mentioning the experience at the W Hotel – we've got it! Haha
Jesus Christ, next you'll be having your mother create a video of what she thinks of your opinion regarding credit cards…
I spoke with Capital One today to add an authorized user on my Walmart card. They'll offer free cards to users but will revoke the benefits for new card holders. Meaning authorized users will not get 5% back from purchases. I wonder if Venture X authorized users receive full benefits from their cards.
Jon L. Conveniently leaves out information when he reviews most things. Do not listen to him.
Centerion lounge no guest starting Feb 2023 is the deal breaker
Do you know this bloke? Or is he just trolling
The no bonus categories kills it for me, in addition to underwhelming transfer partners. I'm just longing for the day Chase adds more credits to their CSR so I can justify that annual fee.
I semi-disagree with you about what you said regarding the 100,000k bonus. I got that bonus and yes it did take some planning for me to spend that much. You are right about being able to use that spend on other cards. But you can only get Amex Platinum bonus once per lifetime. So I care more about the MAXIMUM number of points i can get throughout my life, not how QUICKLY i can get them all at once.
Iโm just starting out on my travel cc journey, I have the BOFA and CFU but I couldnโt justify the CSR annual fee especially if they arenโt offering any sort of hotel status or other vouchers. I went with the VX as my first travel card but am looking to partner it up with an AMEX Gold to cover all the groceries and dining out
Ur videos are funny asf lol ๐
We are big fans of Capital One and immediately got the VX when it became available. It has lived up to it's hype for us & we are pretty satisfied. One major complaint I have with VX is the inability to book multi-city flights on the card's award web site. The only options are round trip and one way. As big cruisers we more often than not fly to an embarkation city but fly out of a different city where we disembark. Cap One keeps telling me that they will soon add multi-city booking availability but it has not happened.
