I like the AMEX Platinum and Gold cards…I just can't validate the cost to "perks" you get with the platinum. I have the Hilton Aspire…I consider that my "platinum" card. I tend to get more with it than with the other two if I had them. A lot of what the Platinum offers don't really translate to smaller towns. Or to people that don't fly much if at all.
There would have to be huge benefits for me to apply for a Platinum. Unless I lived in an urban setting, I don't see a need to have a "LOOK AT ME" card. IF I were "gifted" one…I might use it…And I doubt that would happen.
The Gold…more appealing (I know that it wasn't discussed). I can absorb the unused "perks" a bit better…just like on the Aspire card. IF I were to apply for one of the higher end ones…the Gold would beat the Platinum out…just because I can pick and choose.
For me, the Aspire is a nice and happy medium. I like Hilton hotels…some may not. Price wise, I feel it is the better value than these two combined with their perks.
Just my opinion.

Agree, Uber all up front, but also have the digital entertainment apply to the same merchants that qualify for 6% earn on the Blue Cash Preferred.

The Equinox credit is such a niche credit that only a small amount of people will ever use. They probably have that in there knowing like 5% of users will actually redeem the credit, but they can still include that into the total amount a user will get in credits per year.
Walmart+ is only worth how much you value Paramour Plus.

🏋️ I have been an American Express card holder for over 30 years (Green, gold and Platinum) For this particular amex card , tbh, the main reason I signed up was for the Centurion/ priority pass Lounge package which they are about to change and not allow you to have guests without an additional fee. Since I fly weekly this is beneficial to me. The only moderate Saving Grace is the TSA PreCheck / clear pass coverage. And yes, I agree the Uber credit would be far more useful if it was one lump sum because you will often skip a month here or there and lose the credit. More than likely I will cancel my MX Platinum in mid 2023 soon after they cut the lounge access. Chase Sapphire is in the process of opening up their Lounge system and I already have that card as well. I believe the one in China and the one in Phoenix has already opened. That'll be $695 a year that can be put to use elsewhere elsewhere..

Saks credit can be used for online purchases too. There are lots of high quality kitchen items on sale, so you can get a nicer item than you might normally buy. Think knives, kitchen scissors, pans, etc. Also, plenty of sandals on sale for $40-75.

I agree with you fully on the up front credits, youtube premium (I don't think Netflix will ever play ball), I think for this 695 fee, I need more value on the personal version with much easier use of Airline and hotel credits – 🏋

I am curious if I use the Amex to get the credit, then changing to another card after I get the $300 for Equinox if that will raise a flag.
I still think the gym membership could be improved to cover more companies. Not everyone uses equinox and I personally use Crunch fitness.

Instead of equinox, just do something similar to the entertainment credit but for wellness like equinox, Tonal or Peloton. All of these brands share similar consumer sets and it just makes sense.
🏋️ For Walmart + make sure you sign up in the middle of the month. I signed up 7/1 and got charged again 7/31 for the next month. Walmart customer service said it is charged every 30 days. Both Walmart and Amex didn't want to help me. I canceled and now I'm actually -$13 for the Walmart credit.
I think for first year it’s worth it to try equinox. But most likely after that zero value. But I would still do the 7 months just to say I used the credit. I don’t know about actually using the app

Uber will make a lot less money if the credit is given as a lump sum.
The monthly credit doesn’t cover a full purchase, meaning every month the users pay Uber extra out of pocket (plus tips to drivers). If this was a lump sum, it would be much easier to pay the whole purchase with it (zero extra out of pocket money for Uber and only one driver tip).
I doubt they will change the format of this credit.

One of the reason for the new Equinox credit is because me (and others!) commented on their latest instagram post with Amex that they give credits to Equinox/Amex guests but NOT to those that have one-gym access only. If more people did this we'd likely get cut in on more deals!! Super happy to see they changed it.
