Episode Description

A few weeks ago #MGM Resorts initiated a new “no filming” policy at their newest casino in Las #Vegas. For awhile they were not letting anyone film their slot play, but they have now reversed that policy. Sort of. Find out what you can now film and what you can’t use anymore.

In other #news Tilman Fertitta won big with his purchase of Wynn Las Vegas stock. We also discuss a rumor that Wynn’s former CEO may be looking to buy a casino, a new Nightmare Before Christmas restaurant is coming to Vegas and airport slots have now made over $1 billion. Airport machines have poorest odds. It just money in the owner’s pocket.

Cosmo’s filming policy is pretty much the same as every other property on the strip. I’ve only seen one live streamer at Cosmo and the dude was pretty polite. The machine he was on was hosing him though. I always film the bonus because you never know if you will hit the big one.

Cosmo's ban on tripods used for filming slot play is consistent with its issues with professional camera equipment. A few years ago, Cosmo security tossed a popular Vlogger (who happens to be a professional photographer) for the sin of bringing professional equipment into his room. It turned out that the ban was in place to keep people from filming porn in their rooms.

I watch slot videos to see how new games play. I don't get why they have become so popular. I watch the high limit players spend a ton of money playing them, then they get a handpay for 50X their bet. I don't consider that a jackpot, they're just paying taxes on the win.. When I get a jackpot that 1500X my much lower bet, that's a true jackpot. Yes, I have to pay taxes too, but risk/reward was much better. As far as Cosmo – I'm a platinum member there (highest level) and I cannot get a room for NYE – I suspect, like myself, they are going to lose a lot of customers over this move.

The airport slots were always profitable, but the profits skyrocketed starting in 2002, when security issues forced flyers to show up hours before their flights. Having a bored, captive audience proved to be a HUGE boondoggle for airport slots in LV and airport food concessions everywhere.

Presonally, I like to watch slots to see what games are in Las Vegas. So I can have an idea of what I like to play when I get there!

For whatever it's worth, while waiting for our flight out of Vegas a month ago, my wife (who plays deep) won $500 on a Farmville slot in the airport. That may have been our biggest win in the airport in 25 years.

I've filmed some fun jackpots just by pulling out my iPhone but have never posted them to YouTube. They might make their way into a photo album I post on Facebook, but that's it.

The slots in the airport are regulated by the Nevada Gaming Commission and how tight they can be is determined by the commission. It won’t be any tighter than the machines in casinos or elsewhere. What might be different is the volatility of the games. Fewer small wins, or wins overall, and more large prizes. Volatility can make a machine seem looser or tighter compared to another machine even if the payout rate is the same.

Use to work at the Airport. When my shift ended, always headed to the slots & most of the time won something. We weren't allowed to gamble in our uniforms so I changed in my street clothes to gamble. By the way, I remember if you were caught taking pictures inside a casino, security would confiscate your camera & take out the film. I like anonymity and don't appreciate all these random videos being taken inside a casino while I'm there. I'm old school Mob era.

Some of the Youtubers doing slots seem to win a LOT, NO way would they be uploading more winners than loser for YOUtube hits/$$$$$$ , LOL

Reply

3:45 Exactly Mark, just like the sports touts who sell "winners" why wouldn't they just bet the game themselves………..there is a sucker born every minute. They film the slot play and upload it and if enough people watch/subscribe they make $$$ on Youtube.

You talked about the Gaughan family, but didn’t mention Brendan, son of Michael. Brendan was famous for being a NASCAR driver. Now retired, he had 8 wins in the Truck series and 2 wins in what is now known as the Xfinity series. At the Cup series level he never got a win, but finished 7th in the 2020 Daytona 500. Most of the cars he drove were sponsored by the South Point, which is obviously no coincidence.

Without getting political, it takes Nevada so long to count votes because the government bureaucrats who are doing the counting are (like most government bureaucrats) incompetent. I had a boss at my last job who is from India, and right after the 2020 election he said something to the effect of, "In India they know who won the election that night! Why does this bulls*** take so long here?!" I literally almost fell on the floor laughing, as he was normally so staid and calm.

Regarding the airport slots, I didn't know they made so much money, but it's really not surprising when I think about it. I've won money playing video poker there that would've been double the amount in a casino, so I imagine the machines are tighter there. Combine that with a captive audience who wants to play one more time before they leave.

Mark, I'm with you – I HATE the Nightmare before Christmas! First of all I don't get it, secondly I've tried watching it 4 times and after 5 minutes, it's off!! Tim Burton and Johnny Depp (you betcha); Tim Burton and the Nightmare Before Christmas (gong! no go baby)!
Thanks for talking about the Red Rock Casino – I've always wanted to stay there and that's my next Hotel.

I agree with you guys. Filming with an Iphone or droid fine but setting up tripods and photography equipment would be annoying to other gamblers. I do like to watch other people gamble either on- line or in person. They usually bet high and you can see bonuses without spending your money.

The folks bringing out video equipment need to quit. I get it, i have hit a bonus and filmed some of it but these "influencers" are starting to ruin the experience for regular folks just having fun on vacation.

Only thing different with airport slots is that they don't have to do the federal reporting for wins over $1200. Not that I've ever won more than $600 tho.

Reply

C’mon, Mark, Chris Angel will get at least one vote… assuming Chris Angel votes. 😁

I don’t video my slot play or bonuses, but I will snap a picture if I get a big win. Cosmopolitan, under their old management, catered to a few of the more successful YouTube slot channels featuring mostly high roller play. I suspect those players threatened to take their play to Wynn instead. These guys usually would play late at night, much of the time in high limit rooms. The problem is, others watch them and think, “Hey, I can do that!” Too many people wanting to film at any hour of the day is a logistical nightmare.

We were in Vegas all this past week. Fuel prices as high as Los Angeles. Why in the world would anyone vote for Sislak? He's all for more taxes on driving, more taxes on fuel, and a State income tax. Thank the better Angels out there for voting he lost. LV has a good EV charging network. Thank Electrify America/VW for that.
