Do additional cards get free access too? For $175/year for 3 additional cards it’s probably worth it to get my wife and kids cards. Just not let them keep them 🙂

Sebby is diplomatic, as he should be. Basically, Amex wants the under $100,000 crowd, and all those loud, undisciplined, and disrespectful children, away from their lounges.

lmao the buddy system. Deff not a good parent strategy at a lounge. Great video, thank you for the info.

Dude, no way you can drop a kid off at another lounge.

Only got to visit one centurion lounge and it wasn’t too impressive and was way too crowded. I got much more value out of the Delta lounge access as well as a few nice lounges Amex platinum gives access to elsewhere. In the end with COVID-19 last year and my card up for renewal it was best to just cancel. Retention offer was only 30k MR points vs 50k others were getting at the same time. Amex rep said 30k MR would be enough to cover the cost of retaining the card during an extended period of time (year+) that I was not likely to be able to take advantage of the travel benefits. Not so, but 50k MR would have done it. In the end I’m happier without the card.

To own the Centurion (once you're invited and you accept), you have a $10,000 initiation fee, a $5000 annual fee, No bonus rewards categories and in order to receive an invitation to be considered, you likely must spend at least $250,000 on other American Express cards each year already. Some reports mention you also need at least $1.3 million in annual income, although other reports speak of Black cardholders who merely earn mid-six-figure salaries. For these reasons, I am not sure why anyone would want the card. Is it merely for ego? I'm honestly asking.

I wonder if this policy will be added to the Escape lounge also? As someone who almost always travels alone, it would ne nice to have 2 or 3 guest passes to use per year when I travel with a friend.

I have said for a long time they needed to raise the AF to get rid of the overcrowding, quite a few types in there that probably struggle to pay the AF. A premium lounge should come at a Premium and therefore attract a specific customer base. With that said, these changes are going to make a lot of us cancel it.

I'm happy for the change families were really abusing the lounge. It was made for working adults really… I'm surprised it took this long for this change to come out. I'm really surprised you can't take your wife, without a payment at least, in but a whole family feels like an abuse of a perk.

CENTURIAN NEEDS TO RAISE LIMIT FOR ACCESS.

if you have their card, but are not spending a 100k a year you need to pay in ADDITION to limiting guest access.

lounge access should be for business travelers and big spenders as that is what the AMEX brand has historically been about. not the 20 something chump changers trying to impress pals flashing a metal card.

the best way to eliminate these folk is to keep raising annual fees and limiting chump changer access in addition to families of 4/6+ pigging out on cookies by the jar.

I don't understand why AMEX wont just make the requirements more strict. Pretty much anyone can get the Platinum card—its too easy for what is perceived as an exclusive card. I got mine years ago with a 600ish credit score and was rejected for CSR three times in a year.
