The Las #Vegas #Strip is known for tearing down its history, but one of the most historic Vegas casinos still stands and it recently reopened! After being closed since March, last week the Tropicana Las Vegas reopened her doors to guests and I was there as they removed the chains! This is my full Tropicana Las Vegas casino tour and hotel review from opening night! In this walking tour and hotel review you’ll see every aspect of this very very historic property right on the Strip!
I have so much personal history at this property and can’t wait to show you around! The Trop isn’t quite the same place as I remember from my childhood, but there is so much history around every corner. My stay unfortunately wasn’t perfect, but I enjoyed the room, the casino, the #gardens and of course the #pool! I’ll show you the good, the bad and the ugly of Trop’s reopening in September, 2020! You don’t want to miss it!
My Room – Paradise Deluxe City View – $37 + tax + resort fee (They waived my resort fee at my request due to all of the issues) – As a Hilton Diamond member I received a $26 credit towards breakfast.

22:20 I'm surprised they let you film in the casino. It does look like it needs some renovation. In the 80's the Tropicana was used as an overflow convention center for Comdex.
Last time I visited there was in 2008 for a convention; usually parked in the back and came in from the back just like Sands used to be. I thought there was a buffet restaurant at the end of the long hallway by the convention center. The long hallway used to have the Amazon parrots but I think they were gone by the 90's.
Tropicana has seen it's better days…Tear it down and rebuild it.
Maybe remove the extra resort and parking fess better when the mob ran it they were not greedy like corporation is.
They need new carpeting. Something green red-ish. The fall leaves are unappealing
How so very 60s decor & nostalgic! The sofa/chair extra bunk bed for 3rd guest, young kid.
The room doesn’t look too bad! Will definitely check it out for a cheap stay sometime. This was a fun hotel back in the 90s. Brings back tons of memories
I always thought the Tropicana was a real attractive building, but I have to say, I found this video depressing. Are we entering an era (possibly of 5-10-20 years) where we are just looking back at a sort of increasingly "misty" time . . . . "when we actually LIVED our lives" when we actually "HAD FUN"!? The sort of half-***ed reopen of Tropicana made me wonder. "Half-***ed" is NOT the Las Vegas way of things. It's actually not the HUMAN way of things, either.
Stayed at various hotels in Vegas when visiting from UK,last few times stayed at the Tropicana, won't stay anywhere else now, love the clean bright atmosphere, not like being by in a coal mine like a lot of the hotels, quiet end of the strip but easy for the monorail, pool area must be one of the best in Vegas ,spent many hours relaxing there, would recommend anyone to stay there ,top hotel 👍
I watched Folies Bergere as a teenager in 1985. First time seeing topless women beyond R Rated movies. It was at that moment I fell in love with Vegas.
not crazy about the decor of the room but they give you a coffee maker. you don't get a coffee maker at The Flamingo
Known as the Tifany of the Strip because of the stained glass ceiling!! Thanks for the memory!⛲💙⛲💙
The Stained glass ceiling so unique prevented it from being imploded.⛲🎇⛲💙⛲
Carpets at trpca look kinda dirty
It looks nice. The whole property seems really fun. Definitely wouldn’t mind staying there. This property has so much potential I couldn’t imagine the owners don’t see that. I just feel with all the restrictions and change in tourism I don’t see how renovation would help right now. If they test it down it would be a shame. It’s a beautiful property that has lots of offer
We stayed at New York New York in November which was very busy but went to Tropicana for a comedy show and the resort was a ghost town
Looks like it has a lot of problems the Tropicana. No mention of the room rates. How much $ per night. Should be reduced prices because so much of it is closed off to the public.
Thx for taking us through the fabulous Tropicana. I've been staying there every year from Canada since 1983. I got married outside by the pool at Tropicana in the gazebo wedding chapel in 2007. Unfortunately our trip was canceled this year due to pandemic. Hopefully be back 2022 when things get better. Missing Tropicana and Vegas
There aren’t nearly enough people around. I wouldn’t feel safe traveling by myself to Las Vegas.
Did that Statue of Liberty have a mask on? 😂😂😂😂😂
This was where I stayed when I went with my Dad, back in the 80s/90s, I remember the promo video playing on a loop on the TV, and the elevator saying "Where winners play, and players win!" as the doors opened. I remember the arcade games down by the pool area, and the second floor used to have the last remnants of the old wood design where the hallway led to Mizuno's, the old Vegas is dead, employees come and go with no interest in representing their property, very unfriendly, Circus Circus was filled with what seemed to be foreign workers being paid junk wages, from the acrobats to the game midway. Small renovations like this won't cut it; they should just open things up and get with the new design style like they have at the most beautiful casino IMO which is the Cosmopolitan. Just a very confusing design/layout and they need to take the opportunity to simplify things so people know where to go, consolidate things.
What would be the best child friendly hotel in Vegas? For a Teen toddler and baby! 🙈
I stayed there in 2012 and the staff told me the place was slated to be torn down in 2 years. I'm glad it never happened.
Your video quality is very crisp, looks like a beautiful day
I haven't been in Tropicana since 2006 when we saw Folies Bergere. It was nice that you were able to go inside the theater. It has changed a bit (the side walls, with decorative lighting) but the overall red interior is what I remember. I was hugely disappointed when the hotel was renovated a decade ago that they covered most, if not all, of the tower windows. I do not like window coverings of any sort (ie: buses, monorail, hotel towers) as they impede the views out, but on the other hand, do they ever wash the windows on Vegas hotel towers? They always seem to be very dirty to me. Is it because of the water issues (lack of) in Las Vegas? I was happy to see that you did show the stained glass over the casino, but I was disappointed in how it is not brightly lit as it once was. I loved the warm glow this area used to have. The island look is still appealing, and the old-school rooms are a nice reminder of what hotel rooms used to be like. Sure, they may be dated and worn, but who comes to Vegas to stay in their room other than to sleep? I enjoyed your video. Thanks!
Was the Sportsbook open?
I like the fact that you describe what a certain area used to look like 🙏🏽
I was there in 2018 and I liked everything apart from the windows covered in those black dots that made me go cross eyed every time i tried to look out
👍❤
The development is going on at the NORTH end of the strip, not down there. What a dreary place, and the rude staff treats guests as if they are unwanted trespassers !!
Our wedding was there in 2018. We started off in the paradise tower but we ended up in the other tower for our wedding. I loved the island decor. The suite was FABULOUS!! The shutters opened so we were able to see the strip and in the other tower our view was the airport runway and Mandalay Bay and unfortunately where the tragedy happened 😢! I'm so glad to see it reopen!! This hotel holds beautiful memories.
Thank you for this video. It was really interesting to hear your memories you have about this place.
The Tropicana was our hotel for my first Vegas trip 10 years ago (right after the renovation). I really loved it there back then. When I returned 2 years later I already didn't like it as much as the first time… But I'll always remember it as my first Vegas experience! 🙂
Fun fact: This was the hotel where Siegfried and Roy made their debut in 1967 with their magic show, they were 2 men from Germany who had nothing but their dreams.
In memory of:
Roy Horn (1944 – 2020)
Siegfried Fischbacher (1939 ‐ 2021)
Looks nice and all except in my room I found bed bugs BEWARE!
I’m thinking of staying there for Eagles/Raiders game and getting a suite since I get a discount from my choice through barstool Sportsbook app…is it ok for three days?
Shawn, I am also a huge fan of the Trop. Great tour of the property! I saw Folies Bergere many times and had a backstage tour with former Showgirl the 6 ft tall and Beautiful Debbie Lee. A very nice person too. Love the Trop and it’s Old School Vibe.
Thank you. You brought back so many memories of the trips we had. I too stayed there as kid in the 80’s a lot. I used to lobe macadamia pancakes at the coffee shop on the walk way with the parrots. I swam so much in that pool. All the other hotels I stayed as kid are gone. I miss old Vegas had such a better feel to it.
Remodel make it bigger and better
This hotel has a lot of history. My great aunt Pat Sheehan was one of the original showgirls there. She later married Dennis Crosby (Bing Crosby's son) at the hotel. Other showgirls who were in the original lineup were Adelle August (Miss Washington of 1952), Patti Throup (Miss Oregon of 1953), Sandra Jo Drummond (Philip Crosby's wife), Sheila Sullivan (Robert Culp's Wife), Honey Merrill (Jackie Gleason's mistress), and Evelyn Dutton.
Was there in September of 19, terrible room, and after sleeping in a chair first night got a " upgraded room that was almost as filthy as the first. Ruined my LV vacation
I love the bamboo too!
I enjoy hearing about the history of the hotel, and your fond memories there. Wish I could've seen it in the day! This place sounds like a good family value.
Sounds like it needs from TLC. There is a real employee shortage everywhere; that's for sure!
I stayed there in late 2010 for a few nights before attending a conference at the Red Rock. I remember they blew up the building of bungalow rooms while I was there … it was nice to witness a part of Vegas history, even if it was a sad thing. I stayed in one of the rear towers and my room faced the airport. But the rate was attractive, so I got what I paid for.
I believe land-wise, the Trop sits on a huge lot. I have read rumors elsewhere that it is a potential site for a new baseball stadium for the A's to relocate to. With the Vegas heat in the summer, it will most likely be enclosed. That should help with the airport noise as well.
Good job on the video. Thanks!
Lovely memories&very lovely narration
This room reminds me of Charlie harpers house in two and a half men.
