Thanks for info on the Penfed card.
I think it’s a no brainer card for someone who qualifies to have the annual fee waved. Like you said it’s like getting paid $100 every year to have the card. I run an Amex trifecta so having a no annual fee and no foreign transaction fee Visa card is perfect for me for places that don’t accept Amex.
I appreciate the walkthrough Dustin! It can be tricky determining point value on some of these cards, and your explanation was great! Certainly an interesting contender if you're in the group that can have the annual fee waived! Great video!
Thanks for the breakdown on the refreshed PFCU Pathfinder! I've been re-evaluating my strategy and it's not worth it for me right now. I also found it difficult to find point redemptions and read through each of their PDFs and look at past videos on the Amex version (previous 25K SUB). The card did not appeal much to me the more I dug for info. I would much rather the US Bank Altitude Reserve in the next 6 months or so due to the 3X mobile wallet and 1.5X redemption.
I've had this card for 2 years now. I originally got it because Sebby said that 100.00 travel credit is positive value if you're a PenFed Advantage Honors member and I am a member. He's right. I've used it for airline seat upgrades one year and I purchased online (desk top) an American Airlines egift card for 100.00 this year. And I got reimbursed with a statement credit. Awesome!! One hundred dollars for free!!!! Every year! I use my Chase Ritz Carlton Visa Card for my overall travel perks.
Seems like too much trouble for what is worth. Might be better off with a bank account bonus.
For me, this card eliminates my need to upgrade my Sapphire Preferred to the Reserve. I get free Global Entry and 3 free Priority Pass lounge entries a year via the $100 travel credit. Keeping $500 in my Access America checking account is a fair trade.
is gas considered travel?
Thank you so much! I have been waiting for this card to come back out. I got denied before (to many inquiries). You are right about it being a card I’ll wait on.
I joined PenFed 2 month ago, freakin love them 🙂
I'll be canceling this card soon… it was good while it lasted 🙁
What do you think about the Amex business Marriott card? 100k Sub, award cert and platinum status for 2021
This refresh just seems like a giant meh. Even if you’re a PenFed member, the BOA Premium Rewards seems like a better fit if you can get Platinum Honors.
biggest selling point on this card is the TSA pre check credit which you could easily open up the checking account park $500 dollars never touch it just maintain it get the annual fee waived don't know any other cards that offer that
I have 2 of them (old) and while is nice having free $200 don't think worth now that am under 5/24
I got this when it was an Amex card a few years ago. There was no annual fee if you had $5 in their standard checking account. I guess I'm grandfathered in because I haven't been charged any fees with the new VISA card. I just keep $5 in the checking account for the $100 incidental credit and free TSA pre-check….
But I would trade it for a Hilton Aspire for only $95 a year like a famous YouTube celebrity has.
Thx for in-depth review!
It's gonna be a pass from me too. Take care Dustin and keep the family safe!
For those who cannot get into AMEX or Chase, this card is perfect!
Seems to me that with no annual fee even with the lower returns it's still a good deal for travel returns. The travel perks are all the same as the CSR minus one insurance, plus the $100 incidentals credit. Sure you can pay $95 or more for an annual fee on another card but are the point values being higher going to gain you more then that?
Is there a place where I can search if other people have tried using the $100 travel statement for flight ticket purchases?
I just got a pre-approval offer in the mail!! Thinking about pulling the trigger.
Good job doing the research.
Very informative.
I got this card and the power cash card approved same day along with a loc all on one hard inquiry not many credit unions or banks that dose this but I have lots of cards so the benefits of this was fine with me but I do understand your point I a nfcu member and nfcu the bomb on how to grow and bridge your cards to reach the top limited on flagship card or any card at nfcu without asking for a increase but penfed has some good products where at nfcu every new open account is a hard pull this is where penfed shines and I think after 3 months the hard pull falls off
