Citi has launched a new credit card, the Citi Custom Cash. The card earns 5% rewards in your highest spending category each month. The points are tracked as thankyou points and can be transferred to other cards such as the Citi Premier or Citi Prestige and from there be used to book flights and hotels.

Definitely getting this card. Only thing that makes me wary is that I have 3 hard inquiries so I don’t know if I should do now or wait until an inquiry drops off in a year

Citi just made itself really competitive! I could easily see myself having a citi trifecta and being happy with using that system every day (except that it is missing hotel transfers partners).

Wonder if I can switch from my Citi Double Cash to this one.
I've got about a year before I can apply, I have to wait to be out of 5/24 so I can apply for the Freedom Flex and the Sapphire Preferred. Once I do that I'll let my score recover just a bit and then I'll apply for it. I'll probably use this card more than my Double Cash in all honesty, I can use it for gas and not worry about it at all.
Question, could a cardholder repeat categories? Say use the 5% bonus category in groceries for 2-3 months, or once used are they no longer able to use that 5% category again during a consecutive or non consecutive period? Thanks for providing amazing content and hot off the press information!

Sounds like an great card to have since if you alreafy have the flex and get a category that you dont spend on you can yse it on the citi. Question, can you upgrade your citi doible cash to this new one ?

$500 per month doesn't equal to $1500 per quarter.
It's only 5% on the first $500 a month so $25 max then 1% after that. I get 5.25% on the first $2,500 a month so $131.25 and then its 1.75% after that. Think I'll pass.
Does it need to be used in at least two categories in order for you to get the 5% cashback on the category you use the card most in?
So for me to get back the 5% cashback I should just pick one category and use it the whole month of that category correct ?
I talked to a Citi rep online and they hope to have the Custom Cash as a product change option by late July 2021. (Was hoping to convert my Rewards+ card sooner…)

I'm excited to add this card to my wallet and possibly be my go to grocery card for my 5% category. I already tend to use my Citi Costco card for gas at 4% cashback. 5% trumps the Amex Gold's 4x. This is looking good!
