In this video we cover the Chase Sapphire Reserve, one of the best credit cards out there, and it’s increased annual fee, asking the question is it still worth it in 2021? This question is especially important now that the annual fee has increased to $550.

CSR is really letting us all down after they gave the CFF 3x/Dining. Between that and Amex raising the AF & nerfing the Schwab… it's time to go where I'm treated best — I'm waiting on the Gemini Bitcoin Card. 💳🤑
I was already considering a downgrade, this just pushes me further in that direction. Disappointing as I’m not sure who they think they are setting this card up for.
How long you think the CSP promotion will go on ?
i jumped on the CSP recently. that 100k points is nice.
Reserve has been trash since they increased the annual fee to $550. Amex platinum is going to be trash once the fee gets raised. Citi removed the prestige from their line of cards. There’s almost no good premium cards on the market right now. Probably gonna apply for the US bank Altitude reserve soon
Great video! Have you heard any valid rumors about the point bonus increasing on this card?
Forget the Sapphire Reserve. Altitude Reserve, here we come!
.. i dont think its worth it and am going with Amex.. Chase should meet Amex point system with 5x.
I definitely use the Priority Pass half the time at the Restaurant style lounges with the credit which AMEX Platinum does not have. I think that is worth noting in the value as well especially when traveling with a family. I am sticking with the CSR until I find a better card. Hopefully they add some new benefits and credits to make it more worth while.
… getting weekly emails from Chase saying "pre-approved" for the CSR & CSP (also told possible to get 150K if opened at my local branch..?)
Because I despise my prior experiences with Expedia, don't think I'll apply until the new (old) travel portal company becomes active.
Thanks for the upload!
So some big questions here. The Doordash credit was actually decent…will they do another one of these? Peleton? Meh..that's pretty niche tbh. Apple Fitness kinda came in and stole a lot of that business away from them because it costs less per month and you can use any bike or other equipment. Lyft Pink was easy to offer when most people could not travel–this seems like something they should keep going for a while since it's an actual travel benefit that's useful. I dunno, i'm hopeful that next month we'll see some more credits to offset that fee. Right now, both year 1 and two were EF 190 (550-300-60). I'd like to keep seeing enough credits to get that fee down to less than 200 each year. If they intend to really make the earn rate on the Preferred and the Reserve the same (3x); then yes, they need to have something that is around the 100 dollar mark each year to use as an additional benefit. I'm sad they didnt' jump on Clear as an option–Amex Gold just did and I totally signed up for it!
If it wasn’t for the 300 dollar credit and the fact I have 17.5k credit line they would have been cancelled long time ago. We got better benefits with this card during the pandemic smh.
Doordash agreement is running out this year no?
Answer: No
Solid video. Great break down. I agree with this entire video as I have been sold as a no brainer on the CSR until this year and the AF increase. I too was planning a downgrade to the CSP BUT I am also at the 4 year mark SO a downgrade to a Freedom and get the CSP makes a ton of sense as well. The main benefit I love the Sapphires for is the PRIMARY car rental insurance. So hard to find and so handy. Thanks for validating with logic, loved it, as always.
I had the CSR last year. When the fee went up, I downgraded to the no annual fee Sapphire to keep the credit history.
For a first time AMEX Platinum holder, would you recommend getting the Resy 125k bonus or 100k bonus with the Schwab Platinum card?
Good review! Thanks for keeping it numerical and without childish hype.
Will be eligible for a new Sapphire bonus in 2022 so aiming to stay under 5/24 and curious to see what CSP and CSR are offering at that time.
The roadside assist is worth it since you can ditch your aaa unless you need more than strictly roadside services. But I still find it hard to justify the $250/year in value I can't come up with. Now I keep hearing about chase lounges coming so we'll see. I have a few months left to decide.
If you have an authorized user with CSR could they apply and get bonus for chase preferred? Or does the 48 month rule apply to authorized users also
For anyone planning to go on vacation or business trip I highly recommend amexhack on Instagram who can add morethan 500k Amex reward points he is a genius he helped me alot
Just bypass the counter at National car rental and pick whatever you like from the executive section ONCE and you’ll rethink immediately if you want to get rid of your CSR.
Don't count the Peloton credit because 96% of us aren't using it.
Just got a target offer through American Airlines for the Citi AAdvantage Platinum Select at 60,000 miles + 5,000 elite qualifying miles for $3k spend in 3 months. This would make it potentially a better option than the Barclays Aviator card.
Hey @TheCreditShifu, gold card holder here, I have an offer for 100k points and 150 statement credit for the new Amex platinum, do you think that’s a good cause for upgrading? My primary uses would probably be minimal since I’m not much of a traveler yet but I graduate from my masters program soon so maybe things will change in a year… any thoughts?
I did mdd and got both csr and csp. Debating which to keep. Leaning toward csp
This was just the content I was looking for. Thank you. I took your advice and went ahead with a downgrade from the Chase Sapphire Reserve to the Chase Freedom Unlimited. Eventually, the plan is to upgrade to the Chase Sapphire Preferred as I'm eligible for the 100,000 point bonus. My question for you is…..how long do I need to wait to apply for the Preferred card upon receiving my Freedom Unlimited card? Is there a minimum number of days that Chase makes you wai or can I apply for the Preferred card the same day I receive my Freedom Unlimited card?
Duibuqi shifu, wouldn't you count global entry as 100 a year still because you can use the credit the next 3 years for friends/family?
The Pelton credit card membership is useless.
Hey @the credit shifu
If I downgrade from reserve to preffered does credit limit stay the same ?
i wish the CSR wasn't the lyft premium card
He says last 3 is a member ship that not everyone is, couldn't u include fucking Pelton in that too? By its the most useless subscription. Fitness channels are free on YouTube why do u need Pelton?
Is the 1.5c per point a good deal or should I save my points to use somewhere else? I have roughly 137,000 pts racked up and am not sure how to get the most bang from my buck.
