So first up, the Citi Prestige, this card comes with a $250 travel credit, but right now, that credit will be automatically triggered by supermarket and restaurant spending. That is for the whole of 2021. The card’s annual fee is $495, so for me one weekly shop and I’m done, halving the annual fee. Now the sign up bonus is 50k points worth $500 in travel rewards, oh travel, well anyway if you deduct the effective annual fee after the credit, you are $250 up if you use citi’s portal, even more if you transfer to airlines and travel in the future.
The Citi premier card is even better, the card now offers 3x on restaurants, 3x on supermarkets and 3x on gas, that is pretty much the only spending I do anyway! And the card has a 60k sign up bonus! So you can earn a load of points for use next summer, maybe…
Now for Chase. So on the freedom flex the welcome bonus with the 5% back at supermarkets for the first year has now gone for new applications, it ended on January 13th, but if you already have the card from an application late last year or early this year, remember you have that multiplier for the first year and on up to $12,000 in spending.
On the Sapphire cards there are a load of great benefits to make up for the lack of travel. Both cards earn extra points on grocery purchases until April 30 2021. The Sapphire Preferred at 2x and the Reserve at 3x and that is on up to $1000 in spending per month.
Then we have the new pay yourself back feature. You can use UR points to pay off charges on the card in the following categories:
grocery stores and dining at restaurants (including takeout & eligible delivery services), home improvement stores and select charitable organizations.
Now let’s move on to Amex. Anyway, so for redeeming MR points for cash back, the Charles Schwab Amex Platinum is a great option. You can redeem points for 1.25 cents per point for true cash back, not paying charges on the card, but actual money in your account.
Then also on the platinum we have the $200 annual Uber credit which can be used for food delivery on Uber Eats, a $100 annual Saks fifth avenue credit, great for buying people gifts, they are like oh you went to saks, you are like yeah! There is a temporary $180 pay pal credit, for $30 per month for 6 months, which is so easy to use, just pay for things on a site that offers paypal as a payment method. It doesn’t work for peer to peer payments though.
And then if you had the card before November 2020 and still have it, you should see several awesome amex offers including $50 back when you spend $50 at best buy and at home depot and both of these can be used two times before June 30th.
So I have just given you $680 worth of non-travel credits you can make use of in 2021. Remember the annual fee on this card is $550 so you have more than off set that. If you somehow manage to use the airlines credit then you are at $880 worth of credits!
Then for the Amex gold there is also a dining credit for $120 per year or $10 per months, it is valid at several restaurants, such as shake shak, but the most useful for me is seamless and grubhub, because that means take out from 1000s of restaurants.
Then on the gold we have the new $120 uber credit, which according to someone who posted their conversation with an Amex rep on reddit, will be coming in on February 1st. You still have the airline credit for 2021, if you can use it, but that will go away at the end of 2021.
Then for Amex cards in general there are some great welcome bonuses if you get the cards now. For the platinum there is a 75,000 point bonus, but if you use the credit cards dot com card match tool you may be targeted for 100k or even 125k, I’ll put the link to the Amex Platinum on credit cards dot co below and you can click through to card match to see if you are targeted.
The business platinum is offering a 100k bonus, but you do have to spend $15,000 in 3 months to get it, so it isn’t for everyone.

At 7:03 If I got a friend something at Saks, thay would ask for the receipt so they could take it back and buy something at, Walmart..🤣💯😷❤
THE MAN THAT'S TRYING TO BUILD-UP MY CREDIT SCORE FROM INDIANAPOLIS 🇺🇸
Chase’s Pay Yourself Back feature wins 2020 … and now 2021 😁🥇💥
That's Windham?
Hello everybody! Stay well!
The Airplane! reference. 😆
Great thank you.
Why is Chase so dang hard to get approvals for though! Yikes! 🙄
Baby Yoda is a credit expert.
I just received the British Airways Amex card, do I get points if I use it for flights through other airlines?
Do you condemn the terror attacks caused by Trump "dump" supporters like you last week at capitol?
What's going on with your political comments? I guess you docked now
Is it possible to get the 100,000-125,000 bonus for the AMEX Platinum Charles Schwab?
For the AMEX Gold, will we be able to get the $10 Grubhub for January even though the Uber Eats credit is coming out in Feb?
To use the AMEX airline credit, you can currently purchase United Travelbank and get reimbursed.
Ben be honest, you ain’t going anywhere because you just blew all of your points on your Christmas vacation. Hahahaha 🤣🤣🤣. Just teasing.
Ski 🎿 trip not a bad idea for this winter.
i have a MasterCard that gives insurance to my phone as long as i pay my bill with it but…
do i have to pay the full bill with it or can i just pay a partial amount and still get insured?
I like the MaxRewards app but $7/mo is too rich for my blood. Very few of the Chase and AmEx perks apply to me. I activated quarterly bonus categories manually before MaxRewards. It is not worth $21 per quarter to me to have them do it.
Amex is so tempting, but it always falls short on usefulness and fees…
Cool..
Is the pay yourself back 1.25 and 1.5 thing permanent or temporary?
How come you never told your channel you went to the Cayman Islands? Way to keep it in the DL 😁
How does Chase flex define restaurant and grocery purchases internationally?
Delta allows you to get miles on lyft rides and Chase Sapphire preferred is giving 5x points on Lyft, so if like me you, you use Lyft a lot, it's a lot of points a few miles for minimal effort.
For chase pay yourself back Compared to travel partners. Like hyatt. What provides most value? I dont mind hoarding points for now but rather maximizing points when I spend
I don't really travel so I used my 64k points citi premiere typ to get $800 worth of apple credit back in December 😆
Crypto cards are going to shit on all these perks
At least you get 5x on Rest purchases w the Prestige. You get jack shit on Supermarket purchases, c'mon Citi you have to do better than that. 3x on Cruises WTF.
Supermarket 3x on the Premier is huge and 3x on Gas is just gravy on the top.
I wish Citi would take the same approach Chase uses w the CS cards. The CSP & CSR are essentially the same card, CSR just has more value for those who travel more. CSP is that great medium card for those who travel less. The Citi Premier & Prestige are two different cards and the IMO the Premier kicks it's ass. I am grateful Citi has given nice limits on my cards but I feel like they lack the intangibles that AMEX & Chase have at the moment.
The Chase Sapphire gives free service fee for Door Dash. I've been using them since the pandemic and saved hundreds of dollars
Just went to killington this weekend! amazing- 24 in of snow. Let me know if you take a trip to nh to ski I know all the mountains and love to take a lap!
"I'm not going anywhere." Ditto🤣
Thank you so much for this – I’m looking at getting the Chase Reserve later this year but I was slightly concerned as I don’t travel a ton (at least 1x/yr to visit family) and wasn’t exactly certain if it’s “worth it”.
Looks like it still is, especially with the Pay Yourself Back feature.
Cheers!
