You can also buy movies on Amazon Prime Video and it counts as the streaming credit. I've done it twice now and have been reimbursed!

Does the Platinum's authorize user Gold card still act like the regular Gold card with the multipliers for groceries and restaurants?

Chasing credit is a poor mans game. Get your money up not your debt. 🙄 There is nothing a credit card can do that a debit card cant, besides get you into debt. The measly few hundred you make on points a year isnt worth the hassle and risk associated with credit cards. Noone became rich and looks back and said "you know what helped me get here? That credit card i got in 2020".

Very informative Seby, I plan to get the platinum card next year. I have a CSR and so does my husband so I decided to get the platinum and cancel or downgrade my CSR that way we have more lounge options.

I’m having a Gold card but it is within 12 months. I’m also under 5/24 so I will not apply for the Platinum

Where can I find microsoft gift cards via dell? I just see xbox ones when I search. While I don't have a business platinum I have the schwab, I currently have an offer to spend $599 at dell and receive 12k MR points + 1 bonus MR point per dollar spent and 2 MR points per dollar spent thanks to rakuten, so combined this ends up being like $180 in value if I were to cash out via invest with rewards

I have a question so lets say you have the gold but want the platinum but you want to travel with it right away but you know you don't get the introductory points until after you spend a certain amount. to my question is it worth it to get the card use it you'll of course then get the points then apply the points to the balance…does that work if the same as if you had got the card, got the points first then used the points to travel or whatever? hopefully that makes sense

You’re a genius. I upgraded my business gold that I’ve had for 6 months. Especially because I can get the Dell credits from Jan-June as well.

I feel like the Gold Card and Business Gold are just way too useful based on spend categories multipliers… The Gold card is my dining and groceries card… Business gold is gas, shipping, computers stuff…

Reply
David Galan June 27, 2020 - 12:44 am

Can't find where you are finding these 'credits'. It would be SO helpful if you could do videos specifically on Business Credit cards, their rewards (I just got $500 from BOA Biz Adv Cash card), strategic applying, how to get high limits, etc… At least 1 video a month, hopefully 2 per month, and ideally 4 per month. Business cards are the best because if used correctly they will minimize your personal credit scores' debt-to-income ratio which is key to getting an 800+ credit score.

I’d rather keep the platinum for travel and get the gold multiplier for groceries/dining. ***Platinum entitles you to a 2nd gold card without a fee.***I got one for my spouse and saved her annual fee.

Hi Sebby,

I am currently looking for my 2nd AmEx card as I am purchasing a new laptop and looking to get a nice points bonus. Which do you recommend? The laptop should be around 1k and I spend about $300 a month on my green card currently.

I tried to get a CS Amex platinum and it says I am not eligible for the welcome bonus due to other offers I have gotten etc I got the gold card 4 months ago and the blue cash like 7 months ago. Would it be worth it to still get the CS platinum with no bonus, or just wait until next year to get the 60,000 point welcome bonus.

SoundChaos June 29, 2020 - 3:57 pm

Even with all these new perks, I would only get the $120 in streaming credits, and wouldn't get any other benefits from this card (cell phone paid by work). Still very much seems like a card that only works well for extremely specific lifestyle people that I've never met. I only personally know a couple people that travel on their own dime more than once every couple of years, and I don't know anyone that uses Uber or shops at Saks.

So, if I have the personal gold (as well as the business) would those benefits rollover to the platinum? Specially the dining out and groceries? I would hope so.

As someone who travels a fair bit, you'd think the platinum would be at the top of my list of cards to get. The issue I have is all the different credits are like hoops I have to jump through for things I mostly won't use. Yeah, I'd get 5x on flights, but that would nearly wipe out all these tedious credits that are part of the annual fee. Even though I don't use most of the credits on the gold card, it still manages to net me about 100k MR points/year, making it worthwhile, and I still get 3x on flights! I'd love if they took away the credits and just charged me the $30 or whatever it is left.

If those streaming and phone credits are a new thing this is definitely a card I will get. Even at $595 that is some solid value. But I doubt they will stay

You should really mention that the $550 annual fee is waived if you’re currently active duty military.

Thanks for posting this video. I'm in the military and the Amex Platinum annual fee gets waived for active duty. A coworker told me about this card, just trying to weigh the benefits vs. other cards out there. Thanks again!

I need to decide which card to get first between Amex Gold vs Amex Platinum. I like the perks of Platinum but I won't be traveling until late next year (airline credit). I do like Gold 4X category for groceries. Should I get Gold first or Platinum first?

This probably pencils for me and the AmEx site says I can request an upgrade to Platinum. However, it doesn’t mention which of my 5 AmEx cards will be upgraded! I have the Blue, Blue Sky, Hilton Surpass, and the (legacy) One and Zync cards. Any way for me to tell which of the cards they are going upgrade?

Should I think about going straight to the platinum card instead of gold. I have the Amex Hilton honors and the Amex cash preferred, but they are in the last few months. 720 credit score.

I have really been thinking to get this card. I had the CSR for the longest time and wound up downgrading that to a Preferred. The reason I never got a Platinum in the past is that I felt I didn't travel enough and the annual fee was too high. I recently stayed at a Marriott and wanted to use Chase Bonvoy points and wound up using Amex points. I could not believe how much more the Amex points were worth. I had Amex points from a green card that I had opened awhile back. I am currently inquiring about downgrading both the Bonvoy and the IHG to eliminate the annual fee. I will then consider the Platinum. Should I settle for a 60,000 or 75,000 offer or wait and try to get the 100k bonus? I am also thinking to move my savings from Barclays to Amex because the APR is higher

Incidentals shouldn't count toward your annual fee. What flight doesn't come with a checked bag + carry on? You can only choose a single airline per year how do you even get that credit if you're planning ahead?
