Multiple Amex Cards Now Have Dining Credits for Whole of 2021 – The Credit Shifu

by YouTube Team

Check out MaxRewards: USE CODE: shifu
Hey credit warriors, now you may have heard of the dining credit on the amex gold, uber credits on gold and platinum and the temporary paypal credit on platinum, but you may not know that American Express actually brought in dining credits on multiple cards this february. These credits are worth up to $200 for the year. Now this was actually announced around February 1st, for some reason I didn’t cover it at the time. But these dining credit do exist and some people may have totally overlooked them. So let’s go through it.

The credit exists as an amex offer that you have to add to your card, so you search for it in the regular way in amex offers, for me it has already been automatically added to my card because I am using MaxRewards gold, which automatically activates all my chase and amex offers. But if it hadn’t been activated there would be a little thing here saying add to card.

Now you can get this offer on multiple cards we will go through which ones they are in a moment, but first here is the text of the offer on my Hilton Surpass card

Enroll in this offer to earn a $10 statement credit each month you spend $10 or more on eligible U.S. restaurant purchases with your Card. Whether it’s dine-in, takeout or delivery, you can redeem this offer each month through December 2021. This is in addition to the Points you already earn with your Card. Terms Apply.

So $10 per month for the 10 months we have left of the year is $100. But some cards offer more, so let’s go though all the cards that have this offer.

Marriott Brilliant, Delta Reserve, Hilton Aspire: $20 per month
Delta Platinum: $15 per month
Marriott Bonvoy, Hilton Surpass, Delta Gold: $10 per month
Hilton: $5 per month

So for me I am getting two of these credits, $10 on the marriott bonvoy modern art card and $10 on the hilton surpass card. The annual fee on both these cards is $95, so the credit covers the annual fee on both cards, if I use it. And yes it does include delivery through Uber Eats, Seamless, Doordash etc… which makes it easier to use.

So for me I am getting a huge amount of credits from Amex every month now. I’m actually going to go through and add them all up. So the cards I have are the Charles Schwab Platinum, the Amex Gold, Marriott Bonvoy and Hilton Honors Surpass, and here are all the monthly credits that are easily usable for me:

Platinum: PayPal $30, Uber $15,
Gold: Dining (Seamless etc) $10, Uber $10
Marriott Bonvoy: $10
Hilton Surpass: $10
TOTAL: $85 per month, $1020 per year

So I am getting a total of $85 worth of credits every month from my 4 Amex cards, which is $1020 per year. And that is only the ones I am able to easily use, there is also a $100 annual saks credit and a $200 airline credit on the platinum, and a $100 airline credit on the gold, but I am not counting those. If you had your Platinum card since before November last year you will also have $200 worth of credits for Best Buy and Home Depot. And in case you are wondering here are the annual fees on those cards:

Platinum: $550
Gold $250
Hilton Surpass: $95
Marriott Bonvoy: $95

TOTAL: $990

So you can see all my Amex annual fees add up to $990 per year, and are thus totally covered by this set of easily usable credits on the cards. So any points I earn, and any other benefits I use are basically clear profit.

Lastly, I want to show you a way you can earn a load of extra points on the Hilton surpass, when I was researching this video I came across this offer, spend $5000 and earn an extra 10,000 hilton points. You can do it up to 10 times for a total of 100k points. Now if you do the math, it isn’t that great a deal because hilton points are only worth half a cent, so that is basically a points reward, $50 in value, on top of the normal points you earn. But if you are a big spender with your hilton card it is a nice addition. However you do want to consider opportunity cost, getting a sign up bonus on another card of like 50 or 60k points would way outweigh this.

Lastly I did mention MaxRewards in this video, it’s a great app that activates all your Amex offers for you, if you get the premium version, maxrewards gold, you can get a free months of that by using my link below. Or you can just download the app and try out all the free features thay offer such as tracking credit utilization, sign up bonus spending tracker, monitoring which card is best for spending in what category etc… Link below.

Please subscribe if you are new and we will see you next time. Bye bye.

Can you buy gold on these cards? I’d consider doing that to basically preserve the value of the capital I’m “spending”

Is anyone else having problems with the Pay Pal credits for Amex Platinum? I received mine for January. However, for February I made a Pay Pal purchase on Feb 4th and still have not received the credit.

If they added a generic dining to the Amex gold I would do it. Having the specific dining credits on the gold is a no go for me.

Can you do an in-depth review of the max rewards app? I’m hesitant to connect my cards and use it fully. I haven’t seen any reviews. Maybe a review of adding cards and how it works exactly?

Can't understand why people get exited about credits….They make you spend money to give you a little back of your own money…..Better don't spend and keep all of your money.

Thanks Ben! I had no idea my sock drawer Bonvoy card could get me anything more than a free night a year. I'll be using it for some restaurant purchases now! As far a MaxRewards is concerned, could you do a video on if it's worth the cost?

Anyone know if it's possible to convert a personal AMEX Platinum to a Schwab Platinum? I already have the required Schwab accounts. Or must I open the new Schwab Platinum and close the one I already have?
