Hey Credit Warriors and it is that time another sign up bonus video and there really are some incredible deals for welcome bonuses on US credit cards at the moment. Amex had said in their earnings call they would be focusing on customer acquisition this year, but Chase and Capital One are getting in on the act. We don’t really see much from Citi, but hey Citi if you don’t want to come to the party we will hold it without you.
So first up we have the Capital One Venture, which now has a welcome bonus of 100,000 miles.
To get this bonus you have to spend $3000 in three months to get 50,000 miles and then if you spend a total of $20,000 in your first year, you get another 50,000. So this bonus is good fro capital one, but I would say compared to other cards you can get, not so great.
Miles are worth 1 cent per mile when booking travel or using the travel eraser to erase travel charges on the card. But if you transfer to airlines most partners transfer at a 2 to 1.5 ratio so that bonus would become 75k in airline miles. Still a lot. So I would only recommend this card for someone who really likes the idea of the travel eraser where you can use the miles at 1 cent per point to erase travel charges on the card. If you are using the points in other ways, you can do better with our next card
The Chase Sapphire Preferred.
Now the current sign up bonus on the Preferred is 80,000 points when you spend 4000 in the first three months and you will also earn a $50 statement credit for grocery shopping any time in the first year.
Points are worth 1.25 cents towards travel through the chase travel portal, transfer to airlines and hotels at 1 to 1 and you can use the pay yourself back tool for grocery, home improvement, dining and select charities at 1.25 cents per point. This was originally going to end on April 30th, but chase is extending those categories until September 30th.
But if you want even more value out of Chase points you can try our next card, the Chase sapphire Reserve, with points valued at 1.5 cents per point. The current sign up bonus is 60,000 points, this is an increase from 50,000. And like we mentioned when you use pay yourself back or the travel portal you get 1.5 cents per point in value.
My advice would be if you still aren’t travelling a lot right now, it is better to get the sapphire preferred for the bigger bonus, because you wont use all the travel benefits from the reserve. You can then upgrade to the reserve after one year, and bam, you have the reserve, but you had the sign up bonus from the preferred.
If you are interested in Chase business cards, there are some really great bonuses available right now. The Ink unlimited and ink cash are both offering $750 in cash back for spending $7500 in the first three months and the Ink preferred still has its 100,000 offer but it is for spending $15,000 in three months, so the spend is a little high.
Now let’s move on to Amex.
The Amex Platinum still has the incredible 75,000 point bonus, plus 10x on gas and supermarkets on $15,000 in 6 months. The Gold is also offering 75k points as well.
The blue cash preferred, which is a very popular Amex card, currently features a $300 welcome bonus. But with both these cards and a load of other Amex cards, if you apply through a friend’s referral link you can currently get an additional $200 credit for US home furnishing stores in addition to whatever bonus you are offered. Be quick because this offer ends on 5/5/21.
On cards like the blue cash every day, which has a $200 sign up bonus, this effectively doubles the sign up bonus! On the Blue cash preferred it raises the bonus from $300 to $500. So if you have a friend with an Amex Card, get their referral link, you can get a better bonus and they will earn some bonus points for referring you as well.

Honorable mention for the normal bonvoy brilliant. Elevated status over the business, global entry, lounge access etc etc and 125k sign up bonus
I actually never realized how much you move your head before this video. Congrats 😛
Do a video on your grand cayman trip!
Hairs looking good
I never travel so i was never planning on getting a sapphire card. However I guess i should get the CSP just for the bonus. Chase does not get pissed off if you cancel after the first year right? I wont be keeping the card past the first year and just yonking the SUB. Ive heard amex will black list if u do stuff like that but not sure about chase.
Last week I missed an Amex 100k offer for the Platinum card but after waiting patiently for almost a week I was able catch that offer again and get approved.
Thanks for the info. Used your MaxRewards code!
No Citi card high bonus offers?. Citi doesn’t get any love anymore 😭
I'd love to get the CSP, but I can't bring myself to spend $4000 in 3 months as of this time… I'm at 3/24 so it can wait (hopefully Chase brings that offer again in the future!)
Just got the AmEx Green card w 45k bonus and also the AmEx Platinum w 100K bonus + 10x back on gas and groceries. Great offers right now! Going to get the Gold once the 10x on groceries is up on the Platinum.
Soy face.
$50 in groceries… At $0.01/point that $50 credit is roughly 5000 points. That's not a bad deal.
Please talk about TD Bank’s NEW Double up card. Is it worth it and how does it compare to other 2% cards?
CSP and INK cards are top cards available!
I just got approved for the AmEx Delta Gold business card for 70k Skymiles points with 1st year $0 AF.
Hi Credit Shifu. If I hit the SUB for the CSP and then downgrade it to the Freedom Flex after a year, Do I lose my points or does it stay with me? I do not wish to use the card past the SUB.
Kinda surprised no one talks about the American Express Gold / Platinum offer via Resy (An American Express Company). Using the Platinum as an example, not only do you get 75K in MR points, 10x on Groceries and Gas, but you also get a 20% statement credit for restaurants up to 1 year / ($300 statement credit max / $1,500 spend). The restaurant benefit is only available through Resy and is good for both Gold and Platinum.
Good video. That Chase 80k is tempting.
80k CSP offer for a net $45 AF? Yes please. I need to confirm my Sapphire bonus eligibility date.
can i make preferred, get the bonus 80K then upgrade to reserve after a year and get the CSR bonus (whatever the bonus is then)?
Just got the CSP card! Gonna hit the $4k spend just paying my federal taxes and property taxes next week!
I agree to get the Chase preferred first, also if you apply at the branch, they will wave the 95$ fee the first year.
Got an 40k MR upgrade offer for my everyday card to an everyday preferred. Good deal?
2:41 Or the 6% cash back on the BCP
Do you have a link for the amex blue cash everyday?
Oh good, he got rid of the stereotypical British villain facial hair 🙂
Will you do a video about couples with cards? Is it better to make joint accounts, authorized user, or have your own cards completely?
When I got CSP I only got 50k points is there a way to get the difference ?
Wells Fargo Propel and the World Propel new applications closing on April 19th apparently
I'd like to see a video about what the differences are between the tiers of credit cards ie: Visa vs Visa Signature and Mastercard vs World Mastercard, and so on.
Is max rewards safe to use?
Im still trying to figure out how the credit shifu racks up enough expenses to be able to tell us about all these CC bonuses/tricks
Question. So I’ve been watching all your videos for awhile now and beginning to build my credit. I opened up a beginner credit card (no rewards) with my credit union have six months worth of on time payments with my utilization never exceeding 20% however I still do not have a credit score through credit karma. I’m looking to improve my credit and add more cards my wallet should I wait to apply for a second credit card until I get a credit score? Or what do you recommend. Please and thank you
I downgraded many of my AF cards early in the pandemic. Now that travel this year is looking like a possibility, I am looking to upgrade again but would not be eligible for many sign up bonuses since I had already received (and I am locked by 5/24). Could you do a video on best cards to upgrade into? Most "best travel cards" videos factor in sign up bonuses.
Def go to the branch if getting the Sapphire Preferred. I got the annual fee waived and I even locked my experian account so that Chase had to pull from Equifax. Def want to spread inquiries out.
Can my wife refer me even though we have the same address??? Thanks!!
Should I apply for the world of Hyatt card with the current offer or wait for a better offer? @creditshifu
A lovely video, really informative and very interesting, 100% recommendations and really helps anyone in long-term doubts and projects, delighted with its content.
4:46 You mean spending $5,000, not $15,000 in first 6 months.
If I had the chase reserve before can I apply for the preferred 2 years later?
Mrs Anna is legit and her method works like magic I keep on earning every single week with her new strategy..
