A New Bally’s Las Vegas Is Coming, Bye Bye Tropicana & Horseshoe Brand Returns to Vegas! – Miles to Memories Vegas

by YouTube Team

Caesars Entertainment followed through with the long rumored change of Bally’s Las Vegas to Horseshoe Las Vegas. This brings the iconic Downtown Las Vegas brand back, but what will be changing and what won’t as the property transitions throughout 2022.

With Bally’s Las Vegas turning to Horseshoe, that opens up the opportunity for the Bally’s name to come back elsewhere. Unfortunately that means Tropicana is likely going to be heavily renovated or demolished when it’s sale to Bally’s Corporation completes later this year. Will Trop become the new Bally’s?

What do you think about Tropicana going away and turning into the new Bally's?

I sure hope the Trop name is kept… having grown up near the AC casinos, Bally's, to me at least, only means a run-down, tired and dreary place for sad sack degenerates. At one time, the Trop had soul. Upgrade it enough to bring back that soul (keeping that righteous stained glass ceiling) and maybe that part of the strip can become the "red zone" to rival the Horseshoe's "50 yard line."

What they aren't going to do is bring back good Blackjack with $5 dollar minimums ,great penetration ,and easy RFB comps. The horseshoe name to me hasn't been a thing since MTR bought them. Around 2000.

Re: Horseshoe – As a Midwesterner and long time Diamond member of Harrah’s (I hate calling it Caesars), I can tell you the Horseshoe brand, even owned by Harrah’s, was the best casino for the hardcore gambler. They used to have the best odds (3-2 Single Deck game in Tunica as late as 2010) ina given market. ALL Horseshoes offered 100x odds on craps, and table max was always the highest allowed by local regulations. The steakhouse, JB’s, is usually best in market, and they used to hand write comps, even when Harrah’s didn’t. I’ll be curious to see if they bring 100x odds and more 3-2 tables. I’m not holding my breath, as Caesars started to ruin the concept, and Eldorado has beaten down anything good.

Re: Tropicana- I was in Vegas this past weekend and ate at Robert Irvine’s Public House (it’s pretty good). Penn has done little to save the property and it’s looking run down. Low table minimums help, but it was empty both early Friday evening and Saturday night. It needs a refresh, and I think Bally’s will make it interesting and a compelling property. They’ll need to leverage their locals markets much better than Penn, but if they do (a big if, I know), I think it will give Caesars a run for their money.

I used to love the Trop, but to be fair I haven't spent any time there in many years. Will be interested to see what goes in there.

I think it's a mistake to not renovate the rooms. Anybody can go to the new casino, but most guests will be unlikely to pay more $$ to stay in the same old rooms. At least pretend to "refresh" them LOL

Ballys is 🗑 im happy about this.. but nobody wants stupid hardrock. Mirage 4 life

I am far more saddened by the Mirage sale to Hard Rock and the eventual destruction of the volcano than I am by the Tropicana sale to Ballys. It only cost Ballys $300 million to buy the Tropicana, so I expect an implosion and new resort to be built. There is so much unused land there now, they can bring in lots of revenue streams with retail, dining and entertainment options added. Maybe, with a rebuild, they could create an even better pool area and name it the Tropicana, including swim-up blackjack. Heck, they could have a small, separate casino area by the pools utilizing the Tropicana theme and using some of the original decor. For Ballys to stand out from other resorts, I think they need to emphasize various entertainment options, build multiple lounges, bring in comedians, singers and a revue-type show.

Drop the Trop to the ground and start new. New building, new HVAC, new rooms, new pool, higher ceilings in casino. Then write it off over the next 30 years.

Binions in the late 80's/early 90's was a serious gambling house…..fabulous food and prices and a edgy gambling atmosphere (you knew to respect the staff)….very cowboyish and serious money players……Bally's at the time was classy, good food and loyal money players…..both places were world class!

What is wrong with Rio? I have not been to Las Vegas since 2013, but it seemed nice then.

I stayed at Bally's for a week, a few years back. I agree with all of your comments about it, but the location truly is the '50 yard line', which is its greatest asset. I was hoping for an exterior re-do or at least refresh of the towers. MGM should have done that after the tragic fire. I honestly think the Trop's towers are better looking than Bally's, but they definitely need to get rid of that horrid white wrap. I don't like wraps on any type of windows…be it a bus or a building. I want to see out, and see out clearly, not like I have cataracts. Horseshoe is a legendary name, so I am happy to see it revived. What other names would you like to see come back? Dunes would be my pick.

Horseshoe sounds like a dude ranch they should keep it downtown Fremont Street a classy name like Venetian Will draw more people than a cowboy theme.

I agree with those who say keep the Trop name and theme. I also wish The Stardust name was retained. I would love to see a new version of Stardust on the strip.

You need to talk about the Horseshoe Bossier, as that is the Luxury of the Jack Binion brand! Becky= Downtown crap, Jack= North Louisiana excellence!

No the Beck Binion sale was different, than the Horseshoe sale from Jack Binion!

It’s a Travesty to rebrand the Iconic Tropicana. It’s one of two OG Properties left on the strip. It’s misguided corporate bean counter speculation. When you replace an Icon with a bland generic brand like “ Ballys” clearly you have myopic judgment. Unfortunately Las Vegas is quick to Memory Hole its History. The Trop is/was my favorite place to stay on the Strip. Killer views of the Strip from the upper floors!

They can’t tear down the Tropicana fast enough as far as I am concerned. It is the only hotel I have ever felt endangered at, during the NBA all star game weekend. It is a dump that attracts the worst possible clientele

The Tropicana deal didn’t include afaik all real estate. So the expansion plans are somewhat limit. But there is a lot of undeveloped land in front and next to the Tropicana.

I love that Bally’s will be the Horseshoe, but it will no longer be a mid priced center strip option.

I like Tropicana. Same birthday too. The problem I have is I think Vegas gives up too easily on some properties. People should take up the empty land on the north and it’ll be a huge deal. My opinion though.

Just curious. Bally’s is bidding to build the first ever casino/resort in downtown Chicago. They claimed it would be the signature property in their portfolio. It would be hard to imagine that their new Las Vegas property wouldn’t be their biggest. BTW, they’re competing with Hard Rock and Rivers casino. What are your thoughts on a casino finally coming to Chicago?

All this hotel buying and selling doesn't change a thing . If you go to Vegas , and your NOT a gambler , there is not much to do . I believe the hotel owners and the city NEED to reinvent the strip. There should be LOTS of ( vetted and licensed) street entertainers and ,yes, visible police on the streets .I have talked to so many people who say they are AFRAID to walk around THE STRIP , even in the daytime . People come to Vegas ( sin city ) thinking they can buy and party with marijuana and yet you can legally buy it but as a tourist but you can't legally smoke it . Some SIN CITY !!!!!!! Vegas should also provide very safe and affordable transportation up and down the strip. Who is going to go up the STRAT TOWER , and then take a (RIPOFF TAXI ) all the way down the strip to see the shark thing at Mandalay Bay , and then take another ( ripoff taxi ) back up the strip and so on and on . You certainly can't count on a concert happening , Vegas is the concert cancel center of the world. Vegas should at least write into law , if your concert doesn't happen , you are guaranteed you get your money back, not this it's been rescheduled bullshit . People can't fly back to Vegas just for a rescheduled concert !!!!!! I stayed at TRUMP tower on New Years eve and had a conversation with an older employee who has worked the hotels for over 30 years and he said it all , NOBODY CARES !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bulldoze the whole Tropicana and start over. Also stop put gyms in the hotels. Nobody uses them and it's a waste of space
