My cash back setup:
– SDFCU Premium Cash Back Plus for 2% flat rate, no AF or FTF, Visa card (some merchants take Visa only)
– Amex Amazon Business Prime for 5% back on all Amazon purchases including groceries from Amazon Fresh/Whole Foods (you could also replace this with the Chase Amazon Prime card)
– Citi Costco for 4% gas, 3% dining and travel, 2% Costco

If I were to swap out a card, I would trade the Citi Costco for a Chase Freedom. Or add the Freedom as a 4th card for my setup.

Three really limits you. Four should be the minimum. The best I've found would be the Wells Fargo Trifecta plus the AmEx Preferred. I don't do business with crooks so I won't touch Wells. So I make do with three AmEx cash back and a Chase sapphire for the rare merchant who won't take AmEx and for the occasional bonus benefits. Discover and Crapital One are in the drawer for rare Amazon perk and overseas.

I am rocking 1. Amex Blue Cash Preferred 2 PayPal MasterCard 2% 3. Discover it and Apple Card. I am killing it right now eating clean cooking at home staying fit!!! Thank god you didn’t mentioned the Citi Double cash lol PayPal is better and very underrated

So the Blue Cash Everyday is advertising $150 for $1000 spend in the first 6 months and 20% back up to $200 on Amazon spend in the first 6 months. So theoretically you could spend $1000 at Amazon and get $350. Amirite? Is anyone else seeing this?

Great advise on this cash back system. (I run almost this exact same set up)
Amex Blue Cash Preferred 6%
Wells Fargo Propel 3%
Citi Double Cash 2%
Amazon Prime Rewards 5%
Chase Freedom 5%
As suggested if possible add in a couple other cards to maximize potential. I was amazed how much money we got back using this rotation.

Citi double cash 2% everything
Citi Costco 4% gas 3% restaurant 3% travel 2% Costco additional 2% exec member
Amex pref cash 6% food store 6% streaming services 3% transit, parking, ezpass
I do have discover it and freedom chase and us altitude go and Bank of America rewards
The citi double cash and Costco visa and Amex blue cash preferred are always in my wallet

Last quarter affinity cash rewards paid 7% at gas and supermarkets including Costco with exec membership I was getting 9% at Costco

MaxRewards – 3.1/5 stars in Play store. That's awful. Hopefully they can get their devs to create a decent app. I scanned a few other apps doing the same thing.. 4.7/5 ratings

Waller excellent content as usual!!! I have 5 credit cards & 1 store card, I have the PayPal 2% cash back MasterC., I use this one for items that fall into miscellaneous categories, I use it for gas ⛽️ a lot, my 1 store card is the Walmart credit card, I use Walmart pay so I get 5% cash back on groceries & anything else at Walmart, I have the capital1 venture, I use this card to pay for travel & bills that charge a fee like my light 💡 bill, when I’m paying the fee with this card I still get value because I’m earning miles with every dollar spent, right here is my 3 card setup,,, I also have TDbank cash credit card this earns 3% on dining ( I’ve haven’t been to a restaurant in the last 9 months I had this card) & 2% groceries ( I could use this outside of Walmart & get cash 2% back at other supermarkets but I never do), I use the TD credit card for unexpected emergencies & NYMCU credit card just because I wanted a relationship with a credit union (this card offers no benefits, it has low interest rate 11%), also cap1 quicksilver 1.5%casback, I barely use this card now because the PayPal card earns more, this card needs an upgrade 😁

1. Chase inc business cash. Later add chase freedom and chase sapphire Preferred to build chase trifecta. And don’t forget to get those sweet sweet points. (95$ annual fee)
2. Wells Fargo Propel. Later add WF Signature card to build Wells Fargo duo (no annual fee)
3. Apply for Citi Premier to rip that sweet points and after 12 month downgrade to Citi double cash.

Great video! I’m currently using Amex Blue Cash 6% Groceries/streaming, Costco Visa 4% Gas, Savor 4% dining/ entertainment (currently using Discover It 5% dining though), & Citi Double Cash 2% everything else. Debating if PayPal is better than Double Cash or if I should try the Apple Card instead of those for its 2%.

Would be awesome to see a video highlighting top 3 or 5 essential cards (points and or cash back) to carry.

I wouldn’t ever get a Wells Fargo credit card, even if they had 10% back on everything! They’re crooks!!!!!! Just Google “wells fargo fined” to see how many times they have been fined for cheating and scamming their own customers!!!!!!

Chase freedom, BOA, Amex blue cash preferred , and maybe substitute the Apple Card for flex factor. Forgot about Wells Fargo

Mine are
#1 AODFCU 3% everything,
#2 AMEX BCP 6% groceries,
#3 CITI Shell MC (10c/gallon) stacked w/ T-mobile (10c/gallon) for 20c off per gallon (I know this is very situational),
#4 NavyFed Flagship for cellular bill (2% back +cell insurance on 3 phones and I don't think there's a limit on lines covered, yes I know this card is not accessible to 90% of the population), and
#5 AMEX Lowe's Business card for 7% back (5%+2x rewards) since I'm a homeowner+biz owner with rentals.
On my wishlist is US Bank Cash+ for 5% utilities and long term goal is BOA's Preferred Rewards 5.775% back in 4 categories (except home improvement, Lowe's 4 life!) of travel, online shopping, dining, and maybe drug stores for the wife. Though Gas I think Shell's 20c/gallon back (or 10%@$2/gallon) or BJs (my fav wholesale club) 10c/gallon at Wholesale gas prices (7-8%) should both be higher than BoA's 5.775% (though BoA is still amazing since you can use it anywhere).
I've toyed with the idea of using the Chase portal but it seems like a hassle to use – I may still go for the Freedom just to transfer out to airlines I like – only problem is then I'm sucked into the darn annual fee cards with them (CSP/CSR/CIP). And maybe I should just get the Expedia Voyager ($95 annual fee) Citi, since I've had good luck booking at low prices through them.

I forgot to add I'll never touch WF since they don't let you product change.

I enjoyed this one and didn't know you could earn that much cash back at the end of the year. Thanks for breaking it down. We really like our BoA Cash Rewards card 😉. Take care Dustin and stay safe!

I would say… Walmart Card, Sam's Club Card, Chase Ink Business Cash. $100 fee for Sam's Plus membership. $595 in intro bonuses. 5% Groceries/Gas/Phones/Internet/Cable/Office Supplies, 3% Dining/Travel/Hotels, 3% total back from Sam's with Plus membership, 2% at Walmart, 5% Walmart.com and Walmart/Sam's are definitively cheaper than Amazon/Costco. And none of your cards here come with free samples. Cheers.

The biggest problem with the Wells Fargo Propel is that it's American Express. While it may be accepted at your local Louis Vuitton store, it's not accepted at many other places, especially abroad.

This is pretty close to the setup I run but I use a citi dc instead of the PayPal. I have a credit union card with no FTF that’s a visa for international trips & Costco runs. I also have the WF Visa Sig so Propel gets me 4.5% back (when spent on airfare). I have to admit part of it is I don’t like the rotating category cards.

awesome choices. so far mine are
citi 2% (everyday, non cat spend)
Amazon prime Visa

Would a discover it and citi double cash be good enough for cash back?

George Magana November 3, 2021 - 11:25 pm

I think for me Amex preferred 6% Groceries, Abound CU Gas 5% unlimited, and Flagship Visa for Travel 3% and 2% everything else! Why does everyone talk about Propel card? It got discontinued!
