the Amex Centurion card, commonly called the Black Card. That card that will get you the expensive champagne at the Centurion lounge, free Equinox membership and a personal a private suite at the airport where you can wait for your plane safely away from the peasants and what? All travel is basically banned? Well what about equinox? Closed? Centurion lounges? Closed too? Oh man.

OK, so if you are in the position to be fortunate enough to have the Amex Centurion card, which requires you spend several hundred thousand dollars a year on other Amex cards to get an invitation, you will find that the card isn’t all that useful at the moment.

And just like with Amex’s other travel credit cards, American Express has had to think of ways to give customers value through this period of time where they can’t use their normal benefits. Now with other cards we have seen Amex adding statement credits for certain things, sometimes called an appreciation credit, but since the Centurion is a credit card on steroids, the statement credit is well, a statement credit on steroids as well.

Centurion card holders in the US market received this email recently detailing the $2000 travel credit that Amex is adding to Centurion accounts.

In appreciation of your Membership, beginning in August of this year through 2021, you can earn up to $2,000 in statement credits after you use your Centurion Card to make eligible travel purchases through Centurion Membership Services or AmexTravel.com. Details to come.

Now you may think $2000 is a lot, but when you consider the annual fee is $5000, $2000 sounds about right, it would be like the Amex platinum giving out a $200 credit. What was that? Oh the Amex Platinum is giving out a $200 credit, well there you go.

Now obviously it is a travel credit, so you can’t use it just yet, since no one is travelling, but it doesn’t start until august anyway and runs all the way until the end of 2021. What is more, each authorized user card on your account gets their own $2000 credit.

The Centurion member who provided these screenshots of the email, phoned up Amex to ask a few questions and the rep apparently said that this wasn’t available for all card holders, so it appears to be a targeted perk. Good old Doctor of credit shed some light on that saying it appears to be for cards that renew between april 1st and December 31st 2020.

But like we said you can’t use the travel credit until August, so what about something you can use now? Well the Centurion gets the same streaming and phone service credits as they have temporarily added to the Amex Platinum $20 per month on streaming, to help you cope with the cost of Netflix while quarantined at your Beverly Hills mansion.

And $20 per month off your cell phone bill.
Those two benefits last until the end of 2020. And the Centurion also gets the $15 per month Uber credit, which Amex now openly says can be used through Uber eats, that used to be kind of a secret hack but I guess it is official now.

Now this is for the US version of the card, for the UK version Amex has taken a different route, giving points double value when you redeem towards purchases until July 20th 2020 and also allowing you to earn double points on all your spending up to July 20th 2020. So I guess that is like quadruple?

Now that was all for the personal versions in the US and UK, the business version in the US has also added a $1500 statement credit, apparently for cards renewing between may 1st and dec 31st 2020.

OK guys now that is what Amex is doing to help out those poor celebrities and multi millionaires who are suffering because equinox and Saks are closed. But Amex has done a lot to help out other cardholders, the phone and streaming credits are both available on the Platinum and many other amex cards have their own temporary benefits. I will put a link to an article on our website below that gives you the temporary benefits on each card.

At least someone is thinking about the affluent, or as I call them “our silent victims”.

No, each additional user on your account is NOT getting their own 200 credit. Its one per plat account. Everyone share the same 200 dollars. If that were true, even if the additional were plat, Amex would be in trouble. A plat cardholder with three additional plat users is paying 725 a year..if what you said is true that account would be getting up to 800 in travel credit..that plus the new streaming and wireless benefits and the fact that you can use the uber credit for uber eats and can still use your 200 dollar airline fee credit means Amex would be giving out twice as much as the plat annual fee. Trust me, its one 200 travel credit per account

Right now I'm eyeballing a cruise from Miami to Aruba, so how about a nice hotel in Aruba for 5-7 days? After the pandemic of course!

thats funny that centurion only gets $15/month for uber. I would assume they get at least double if not quadruple that.

Centurion Card is a "charge card" not a credit card. You must pay the bill in full, every month.
