You can't really fault AMEX for this if the card holder was gaming the system in an abusive manner.

I used my skymiles to cover a 300 dollar ticket, paid 82 dollars by using plat Amex. It triggered the credit. HOWEVER I missed my flight lol and I called delta.. they gave me the credit back BUT they placed it on my delta account for another flight which I used that same day. SO IN THEORY can you buy a ticket and have it refunded as credit to a particular account without amex finding out? sort of a credit limbo?

Would love to hear your thoughts.. thanks!

This would make me ditch my gold card if this happened to me. I’d just rock my Zync card.

The difficulty of using the Amex travel credits makes it incredibly difficult for an average person to justify keeping all of their premium cards. It’s not easy to rack up 550$ (Aspire, platinum, gold) in incidental airline fees with a single airline.

Sapphire is still clutch. I’ve got my $100 gold credit, but this is just hilarious

"US or domestic flights" pls shifu, if possible i'd just avoid airports and high population areas altogether; but if your occupation requires such then godspeed.

U always talk on your channel how you don’t advocate manufacture spend. This is basically manufactured spending too and you technically just said how how it’s a dick move on AMEXs end. Why are u always so against AMEX and pro chase it’s probably because of your business account u have there and wouldn’t be surprised if they pay u to say that

You say you use your airline credit to get into lounges you wouldn’t normally pay cash for like AA Admirals, but technically you did pre-pay for it by paying the AF so isn’t that tantamount to paying cash for it?

I have been with American Express for 17 years. I have 7 credit cards with them alone. Never have any issues, don’t mess with the system and there is nothing to worry.

I really wish they would just get rid of the stupid credit. It is especially irksome on the Platinum card; I would dare say most people who have that card usually by first class tickets and would never therefore get stuck with any fees. I would really prefer that they come up with some other credit or just make the airline credit work regardless of what you buy from an airline

Seems fair to me. Game the system and lose your previous years credit I’d say your just getting what you deserve. Home there aren’t many/any false positives though.

Good for AMEX!!! IF people just play by the rules (Terms and Conditions) you won't have to worry about this!!! If this person had to cancel their flight for legitimate reasons, then they should explain it to AMEX and get that in their file. Build good will and don't do this often!!! I used the airline fee credit on my AMEX Gold recently for the Even More Space upgrade and baggage fees and it worked perfectly!!!

Not to sound like I'm sticking up for these banks but it seems like people are just trying to get some free statement credits from American Express. I've got no problem with this as long as it is not being taken away from people who are using the credit right.

The credit seemed to work for me on a $48 dollar flight with Spirit. I was surprised when I saw the credit come through.

I've had refunds, cancellations, adjustments of other credits on other cards and when the refund is processed the credit rolls back too. What am I missing here?
