I'm a keeper of the Personal Gold + BBP, and Hilton Aspire + Delta Reserve.
this deep
Thank you for sharing this nice advice about one of the nice cards to have,
I love the Gold card, at first I was skept just because it was AMEX and it’s my first card with them. Didn’t realize it has become my favorite card. With prices gone up at the grocery, I’m glad to be rewarded with points and I love having the ability to use points with Hilton, Mariott and Delta. I especially love the $10 dining credit on UberEats for pick up orders. Super awesome card.
I added the most recent offer adding my Gold card to my Samsung pay and I'm getting $2 off each use x 5! I know it's small but it will subsidize a few beers! 🍻 Also used it for booking a hotel in Las Vegas this month using the Fine Hotels and Resorts Collection and I'm looking forward to using the $100 resort credit for food and drinks!
The gold card is pretty mid IMO. It can work for you but you gotta commit to it. I live on an island so I wouldn’t be able to use the dining credit. Bruh
👑 Gold for points. Platinum for perks. You really need both for an AMEX setup. Thinking about adding a green for hotel points, and not sure if it really makes sense.
We never use Uber and none of the restaurant options are in the Daytona Beach area, so @ a $95 annual fee the Blue cash Pref is a no brainer.
Love the Gold. My largest expense every month is food so getting points is very easy.
Offers. Have had the card 4 years next month and have redeemed almost $700 back in offers on top of the credits. I'm literally being paid like $150+/year to have the card. Unfortunately so many small restaurants around here are now charging CC fees of 3-4% it's really eating into the benefit of the 4x points. (crown emoji)
Great video, this card is a solid choice for many people, but for me not so much for many of the reasons stated. The multipliers don't seem that compelling to me when I can easily earn 3X to 5.25X on category spend with no fee cash back cards. I don't utilize rideshare that often, and don't use food delivery because of fees and up charges, Additionally, I rarely frequent any of the restaurants required for the credit. I'm not opposed to paying an annual fee when I receive value for doing so. I currently hold Ritz Carlton, Platinum, SW Visa, and CSP.

👑 LOVE YOUR CHANNEL, been watching since 2017.
👑 What editing software do you use and what site do you get B roll from?
I've been trying to convince myself to get rid of this card but you can't The card is great
Me: oOoOO a new Ask Sebby video!
Listens to intro
Me: How dare you 😥
👑
Im glad I watched this! I was contemplating the Gold or Plat but now I will go for a CSR for hubby. I already have a CSP! Thanks so much!
👑 I just got my gold card and I was scared at the beginning of the video but it’s my last AMEX card and I got it for the grocery and dining benefit and the credits
Uber eats has too many fees and it is more expensive on uber than in the restaurant. If a dish is 9.99 in the restaurant it is listed as 12.49 on uber. Makes no sense even with the credits, for many months my credit has been expiring because it is not worth it
I think the "coupons" are a waste of money. They force you to spend when you otherwise wouldn't. Had this card years ago and will never go back. Amex knows exactly what they're doing.
Could I order the Gold and then add my authorized user under the Rose Gold? 🤔
Great video! 👑 One thing I'd also add (and may have been mentioned in passing) is that you really need to value MR points at above a penny per point to find it useful over no-annual-fee replacements long-term, even if you can max out the credits. Altitude Go gives 4% cash back on dining, and a Citi Custom Cash will give 5% on groceries if you make that your primary spend category on that card. For domestic travel, particularly in coach, it's hard to get significantly above a penny per point from travel partners.
I'm primarily #teamcashback, though I might pick up the Gold card at some point for the SUB. If I find a good redemption in the first year, or if I find the card significantly more useful than I expect, I might keep it, otherwise I'll likely just dump the points over to Delta (easy enough to get a penny per points and lots of options out of MSP) and cancel the card. Right now for my travel habits and other cards in my wallet the juice just doesn't seem worth the squeeze for the Gold as a keeper card.
👑👑👑👑👑👑👑👑 sebby you da best! Can you do something like a weekly/bi weekly roundup with offers and card utilization? The coupon book of cards I have is so difficult to keep track of :,(
f am ex. after 12 years and 2 cards including gold, they suddenly canceled both cards and after 16 hours on the phone told me they cannot tell me why they cancelled, but the 250 fee for the gold card is non refundable and stole 767,000 points. c'ckeaters. to the bone. they informed me i shouldnt save my points btw. jackoffs.
If you stay in the USA The AMEX is great, no 4* on groceries or Uber credits abroad.
If there were a redemption that got between 1.5 and 2 cpp redemption values on economy flights, I would consider it. Delta seems to be only giving around 1 cpp though on economy fares, so I don’t see how MR points would ever make sense for me
I’ll save u the trouble.
1. You’re probably too broke to afford the annual fee😭
The Amex Rose Gold is for royalty 👑
I had a Platinum first and just got the gold and have been just using it for groceries and food. I am already kinda mindful of spending the $15 Uber credit from the Platinum anyway so that becoming $25 is no issue. And I’ve been thinking that I earn 4x points every bite of food I’m chewing.
Amex got me good!
The Amex gold can be so frustrating. There are so many restaurants that it refuses to give 4x to. A lot of the restaurants will code themselves as restaurant & bar because they serve alcohol (literally what restaurant doesn’t??) and Amex doesn’t count that as a 4x. I find this especially true about nicer restaurants, meaning leaving even more points on the table.
I use Uber 2x / yr, and will probably go to shake shack again next decade or two.
👑
It's not really a credit. It's more like a $10 coupon. I still have to put $20 in my high yield saving for the next annual fees :3 I live in big city and most place take Amex. I really like Amex because of the offers in their app that I can actually use. Also you can use Rakuten on top to make an extra points. I have racked up 40,000+ points on Rakuten alone in just 2 and half months of having the Gold + the 90,000 points bonus I'm working. Their offers will various fir different people but for some reason I can use like 40% of it + one from Amex blue cash. I have Chase also but I don't like it because their offers kinda suck and it absolutely have no use to me Also their portal is always overpriced (this goes for Amex also) so I'm using 3rd party like CheapoAir or Expedia. You won't earn 5% back for these purchase but Amex does. I was applying for the Gold card for fun but now it was my main everyday. I got so many offers like from Addidas, Macy's, Sephora, Bestbuy, Expedia, Ebay, Under armor, etcs as the holiday season is coming plus 10%+ extra on Rakuten so on average I can earn about 15 to 20% back in points for every purchase on my Gold card :3 Also I added an extra authorized users which are my GF and her mom (who spend heavily on groceries). I'm maximizing this card to its core haha.
Also I use my card for Groceries at my restaurant where I work and I basically spend $1k+ a month without actually spending because I got all those cost reimbushed. Free points haha. Best card for me.
2 and half months of having this card, I already have enough points to flight round trip in business From Houston to Japan =)) Def not a travel card for sure but using points to book business is like having a PLat card. I can still go into lounges haha
I agree with Sebby that many overlook how difficult is to redeem MR points for aspirational travel. Try to get 2 "saver" business tickets to any attractive destination on any partner airlines – it's impossible. If you find 1 way, there is no return, or crazy connections offered making it useless. It became totally impossible now post-Covid when many airlines do not allocate enough seats for redemptions or do not have advanced schedules in place to book award flights at the earliest possibility.
I've definetely loved my Gold card, but I'm in Year 2 now and will have to see how it does. The credits are honestly pretty useless to me, so I'm just in it for the 4x on dining & groceries. I've been able to get a couple good redemptions with it, but not sure how long it will take to rack up those points now that I'm in Year 2
Team Gold Card
Amex Gold is a easy one and done next to a regular credit card. Annual fee might scare you but running all your expenses through it and using it daily off sets the annual fee yearly.
For people does not like annual fee of $250 this card is not for them.
Ask Sebby fan here, watching for years. Be careful especially over the next year or so. Too easy to get out of hand, you don't need all these credit cards. Only need a few cards and pay off every month. Very easy to fall into the Credit Card trap.
👑
Got the gold card for nearly one year. Regret it so much. The points system is not worth it. Will cancel it soon 🙁
I use the uber credits and thats pretty much it, I should cancel, tbh I like the feel and look of the rose gold metal card, not a sensible reason, lol 👑
anyone else thinking hey can you slow it down…. tried to watch this on my tv and man….
👑
I currently have a gold delta Skymiles card. I am looking into getting the gold card but I like the online shopping credits with Blue Cash Everyday Card. Not sure which one I want to look into getting in the future.
