An cohesive ecosystem of points is the one thing that could make these US Bank cards click. Even with no transfer partners, the ability to move your points to the Reserve would be powerful.
Gold card for those that travel. We all need groceries, and we all like to eat out once in a while.
Also 3x on airfare, $100 credit for luggage, trip delay insurance coverage, rental car insurance discount, and Amex offers.
Go card isn’t a bad card at all but to me the Gold card is much better. Throw in the fact that I’m not a fan of US Bank and Gold is easily the better card.
For Traveling, Amex Gold.
Once abroad, switch to the Go.
If your company uses corporate cards from Amex (and you have one) you can get 100.00 of the Gold card's annual fee credited back to you each year. This solidified the Gold as having a permanent place in my wallet since I will do a once-a-month Grubhub or even a Boxed order to use that dining credit. Effective annual fee = 30.00.
If your someone with the Charles Schwab American Express Platinum Card I would say the Gold Card is better as you have that sweet cash back option at 1.25 cents per point. I do think that most people will go for the US Bank Altitude Go card as it has no annual or foreign transaction fee and it is just simple cash back. The Gold card does have those benefits to help give it a boost.
MRP at 1.5c/pt is a little low in my opinion. Any effort on your redemtions and you can get 2c, 3c or even 8c/pt…
I've had the amex gold for about a year now and am considering cancelling if i don't receive a retention offer. the 250 a year is hard to justify when you can't really fly anywhere and i find the MR points are not worth as much. Meanwhile Chase offered 5X temporarily on groceries and Pay Yourself Back so i find my self using my gold less and less. such a shame since its a beautiful card i enjoy handing out plus i do like the offers they have when shopping at select retailers and sites
In this COVID-19 priorities have changed. If you stop valuing travel or travel less, the least sexy card can be the best…I am considering getting the Go card to building a relationship with US Bank, but currently I spend alot on groceries and a bit on dining so my best cards are actually Amex Gold for groceries, and the Bank of America cash rewards earning 5.25% cash back with no annual fee as well (up yo $2500 per quarter)
Can MR points be commonly redeemed for 1.5+ CPP on economy flights, or are they only good for business and first class?
The best challenger to the Gold card, for me, is the BoA Cash Rewards, set to restaurants. Out the gate it is inferior to both, 3% restaurant, 2% grocery, but it can also grow to 5.25% restaurant, 3.5% grocery. We still come out ahead with Gold, I only wish there was an alternative for the airline incidental credit. When you have the Platinum (and I have two at the moment), that extra $100 becomes overkill.
4:01 um where? 😂😂
Great video, nice comparison.
Awesome video bro !!
For me, the Gold card is difficult to beat. But the Altitude Go is a solid cash back option. I am sure you've had this question asked somewhere but, do you need a relationship with US Bank to acquire their cards? Great comparison Dustin! I like these videos too. Take care and stay safe.
I agree that paying the Amex Gold is not worth it, given no airline credit or other credits, and with other no fee multiplier groceries cards out there now.
i got the Go card. it's good. leaving the amex gold now
Until the Altitude GO is metal, it's not an amex gold killer
Look Waller I know you love us bank
But i only have the skypass 95 af card but not everyone gets positive value from the points from usbank
Altitude Go for me. 4% on dining with no af and no hoops to jump through to get value. For groceries, I use the Verizon card for 4%.
What are some of US Bank application rules? like relationship with or not and business card rules video please
if dining alone, I will take the Altitude Go anytime over the AMEX Gold…
We don’t spend much on dining out so GO not worth a slot for us but I think this is a good option for those who do and don’t want an AF.
Gold Card for me babe! i have it even tho i have a card thats better then the Altitude Go card with no annual fee and thats the Navy Federal More Rewards Amex Card. 3% back on resturants, gas, transit and us supermarkets. No annual fee, no foriegn transaction fees, no cah advance fee. The Gold Card is my flex card and to get into the MR game.
