The refreshed American Express Green card looks to compete with the Chase Sapphire Reserve and Chase Sapphire Preferred. From its increased dining and travel earning rate, to loungebuddy credit, and even CLEAR credit. But is the Amex Green card really better than the CSR or CSP?

The video we were all waiting for…😎👍
The only people who call the green card a CSR killer have no clue what what travel cards mean. The green is a good travel card if you're only traveling in you town on bus or cabs. Everyone says the away credit. In 4 months when it goes away let's see. It's a good card for kids coming out of high school and into college that are only going to be traveling in a 20 block radius. Great video
Great video. Thanks again.
Hi Dustin. Thank you for the comparison. Do you think Amex has to rethink the Platinum points program? Video idea. Could you do a comparison on the Schwab Bank account fee free ATM cards vs Sofi ATM fee free program. Both seem to be great foreign atm options. But are they equal?
I dunno, I think the real comparison is within the amex system. Outside of the centurion lounge,The green card and gold card may make a better combo than the gold and platinum.. I would be interested in hearing your thoughts on this.
The CSP could use a refresh right about now. Between the CSR and other travel cards it is no longer competitive. I'd like to see Chase scrap it as a travel card all together and turn it into a gas and groceries card. The diversity in bonus categories would provide value to consumers as well as new customers to Chase.
Awesome video. Waiting on my GC to arrive. Looking for a viable alternative to a CSR should i ever need to cancel or product change. RIght now it looks like I'll only take advantage of the sign on bonus of 45k.
The green card is a good stand alone card for amex or maybe a decent partner with platinum as you can use it for your non flight purchases and dining. If you have a CSR then this cards a no. If you have a Gold card this cards a no.
The Green card is ok .But what happens when you can only redeem your points for lounge buddy/centurion lounge credits.Uber got me with the head fake..waste of a hard inquiry
Great comparison.. As a traveler myself,CSR is still my go to card😀
I wish Chase would increase the CSP multipliers. I don't understand why the business preferred has 3x with the same annual fee.
You're killing it, Dustin!
What is so great about the CSR?
It's somewhat a competitor to the CSR. If you are someone that only cares about points and not benefits. I'm one of those people. But I still think the green is trash
I feel like Amex should’ve gone the route of making the Green card complimentary to the Gold and Platinum, rather than a more direct competitor to the Sapphire cards. Right now, it just seems that they are cannibalizing Gold cardholders rather than converting Chase cardholders to Amex.
Can you compare green vs us bank altitude reserve
Even though I am team Amex, this is an honest and factual comparison and I believe the Green Card does not really compare to the Sapphire Reserve. Yeah, it has the same earning rates but the benefits are so much better than the Green Card. Now the Sapphire Preferred, that card is garbage and would only recommend applying for it for the sign up bonus then downgrading to another Freedom card. Great video Dustin!
So do you think Chase will make any changes to either the sapphire reserve and/or the sapphire preferred because of the Amex Green?
Amex sucks. They shouldn't have made the annual fee card so high.
It's a CSP competitor alright. Amex positioned Green to be in between CSP and CSR and tried going after people who travel maybe only once a while. Probably students or Young professional making $100 lounge buddy meaningful for them. While also lowering effective AF.
Good detailed video
CSR > Green > CSP. For redeeming, I believe the Reserve card is a better hotel program through their portal and Hyatt, and Amex has better airline transfer partners and promotions. Combined with the Business Gold or Platinum, Amex's airline portal becomes more competitive, but they're not for everyone.
CSR hands down. Saying the green card is better is laughable really, especially when considering the CSR’s ability to pair with the CF and CFU without extra annual fees.
For travel category, I think so. Couple that with the gold.
@2:35 you correctly mention that the CSP doesn't have its annual fee waived, but then a few seconds later you say it is waived. Just mentioning that because it might be confusing to some…
As always thx for this vid. CSR is my fave. UR pts will always be my fave rewards currency.
Im pretty sure the CSR PP is limited to 10 visits per year, no?
The green card is perfect for me. I travel domestically maybe 3-4 times a year MAX and rarely I even have time to sit at lounge but ever so often I have a layover, and this is where lounge buddy comes to play. This card is not for the frequent traveler but the young professional who travels frugal, going to Happy Hour after work, calling a uber back home, taking trains, and public transportation, bus passes in NYC, etc. Its a great domestic card. I will still put all my international travel on my CSP. Chase protections is hard to beat.
Great video my man. I think the green card is better than the preferred but a close 2nd to the reserve. You’re right, chase is not so attractive without the Hyatt transfer.
If Amex improves its transfer bonus to Marriott and Hilton then chase would be an afterthought. Also consider that AMEX’s purchase protection is invaluable and incredible
Can I save my points from the sign up bonus for CSP, upgrade to CSR in a year, and redeem my points for the higher travel portal rate? Or will I lose my points? I’m still 4/24 (BCP, CSP, Uber, and PNC Cash rewards) and just starting the travel card journey. I really wanna go for CSR, CFU, and another card (I hate rotating categories so CF doesn’t work for me)
The CSP isn’t waiving it’s anual fee right now. I noticed after referring my brother. Chase made me look bad after his anual fee was charged and I had to explain that after they raised the sign up bonus they stopped waiving the anual fee.
Anyone who thinks the green card is better than the Chase Sapphire reserve is smoking something
Dude we have the same last name. Cousin!!
You should do a re visit on this video now with the new af hike on the reserve.
What is the New Amex Trifecta? some Youtubers are saying to get the Platinum Card, Gold Card and Every Day Card and some are saying to just use the New Green Card to add with the Platinum, Gold Card? 😧
The Sapphire Preferred really needs a refresh. I can get 2% back on anything these days with no fee. Even with the 1.25 rate at the portal, it falls behind.
My green card is my first annual fee and amex credit card. I'm barely getting into the points game since cashback was my first strategy. Its low annual fee, high welcome bonus of 45K MR and low minimum spend requirement was the reason i went for this card. Now I'm sitting on over 90k MR points and can't wait to see where those points could take me.
