I like the fact it's switching to being a credit card instead of a charge card but I don't like the exuberant interest rates they offer. I do pay my cards in full every 2 weeks but emergencies do happen and you never know when you may get laid off, fired etc and you'll need to rely on paying the minimum till you get back on your feet.

They do this in some markets (UK and India at least) with Platinum Reserve card. Technically this card comes with a published limit, and that is the limit you can roll over and use like a regular limit. However, there is also a shadow limit like charge cards and there is no penalty for going over limit if you pay in full like a charge card. So if your limit if $1000, and you spend $2000 but pay by deadline you're OK. You can also choose to pay only $1000 and roll over $1000 as a regular card.

I don't know how I feel about amex turning into a regular redit card.

Neither of my cards (Gold/Plat) are enrolled upon checking my account. Hmm

Interesting. I wonder if this change will also be made to international cards in the future. I am holding a Gold Card from Amex Germany. I have read that the UK Amex Gold has already been turned into a full credit card. In Germany Amex does not offer credit cards but only charge cards. In my case I get the bill and a week or so later they take the full amount out of my checking account.

Also, in Germany you can get the Gold Card without annual fee if you spend at least 10K within one year. However, this is not an official ruling. You have to call and ask for it. Sometimes it takes several calls because not all reps seem to have this info or some are not willing to do so and still other representatives will have to "forward" your request to another department. …but it is possible. 🙂

Pay cards off in full. If your not then your letting compound interest work against you.

This is a little off topic, but I have been subscribed to you for a couple years now, and I had not seen anything from you appear as a suggested video in well over a year. I don't know what happened. Once your videos stopped showing up as suggestions, I kind of forgot about your channel. But when this video appeared as a suggestion for me just now, I realized that you haven't stopped making videos.

WE DON’T NEED PAY OVER TIME yall. The only money they will get to make on me is the annual fee. AMEX called me today pressing me about POT minimums. While on phone with the rep I paid it off in full and told him “I will never charge something I can’t pay for in full” Overall: it’s all about strategy…I essentially use CC’s like debit cards for bills and etc and pay in full each month. Cash back and points for future travel is what I aim for. Paying interest for money that you already have is just silly.

Hey community! What happens if you don't enroll using the offer that Amex sends you (i.e. don't enroll at all)?

Now, consumers need to prioritize getting an Amex early if they have a hard 5 card limit.

Is there away to get cash off the cards without a cash advance, to borrow funds & pay it back over a couple months at 0% interest?

The "pay over time" isnt a bad feature (except for the APR)… I do like the idea of a hybrid card (mostly charge card but can revolve the odd balance here and there) as it does dramtically reduce the number of perceived defaults. Im suprised that Amex hasn't looked back in time and used the "10% minimum payment option" or something similair to reduce defaults on charge cards. We live in a different world where it takes more and more income just to survive. This isn't the 1950s or 1960s where a household could survive on ONE income, save money and go on family vacations every year. << sadly those days are gone.

In 2021, my household, on average, has ZERO credit card debt 🙂 paid in full every month. thank you very much!

I have the gold card. Let’s say my total balance for the month is $700. My closing date is May 23 and my due date is June 15. If I keep charging my card after closing … $100 , does that mean I have to pay the total balance of $800 by June 15 or the $700 in order to not get hit with interest. I’m a bit confused because it has both adjusted balance and total balance. I want to pay the statement balance. Thanks!
