I'm still in the Chase world as I'm under 5/24. Amex is like a really difficult maze to me, and unless you really work hard on every front it's hard to get value out of it. The wizards that live and breathe this stuff prefer it because they know (and don't mind) putting in the legwork to take advantage of all these cryptic credits. Then the legwork to know how to take advantage of all of these alliances etc. I love Chase because it's simple. I think when I get to the mid/late game and finally go for Amex cards, it won't be for long term keeper of any of them. Therefore I don't think it will matter to me if it's Green/Gold/Platinum. It'll be to harvest the points and probably cash them out via Schwab.

I love the gold card. 4x on restaurants is great for me. I buy shake shack gift cards for the dining credit. The airline credit is the hard one for me. The green cards lower annual fee is starting to make me think but the clear credit really isn’t worth it for me nor is the lounge buddy credit bc I have the priority pass through the surpass card. Need to find better ways to use the airline credit to make the gold more worth it.

The Gold Card is perfect for my family and I. Most of our spend is at grocery stores and restaurants. Only category I need is gas. And we travel just enough to benefit from the 3x on airfare and also the airline fee credit. I would only apply for the Platinum card if we traveled enough, but I don't think that will happen anytime soon. I am wanting the Hilton Honors Surpass and the Delta Airlines Platinum for my next Amex card. Hope you're having a blast on vacation! Take care and happy travels!

Here is a unique take on this. I am going the Charles Schwab route to cash out at 1.25x to pay for the annual fees on all of my cards for the next year. Airline credits, award nights etc more than makes up for it.
You get the taste of having the Plat for a year and really see if it's worth the price of admission.

I currently have Platinum and Green and in the midst of determining whether to upgrade the Green to Gold. What do you know about Gov Vacation Rewards govvacationrewards.com and what are your thoughts on its value? On the surface it looks like a perfect use for the Green card. Thanks!

There’s a Gold offer now for 50k @ 2k MS —way better deal than 4k MS. Pretty easy to find too.

Not sure why nobody had mentioned it except AskSebby, but I was once targeted for a 125,000 point sign up bonus by Amex for the Platinum card. That’s also a possibility, just so people know.

Dustin, I recently read someone’s letter from Amex after a credit card application and they checked both the Experian and LexisNexis credit reports. Do you know much about LexisNexis? Can you do a video on it? With what I’ve been able to read so far, it sounds like they know a lot more about us than Equifax, Transunion, and Experian!

Amex platinum must add worldwide Daining and Travel multiplier (expand their Air and Hotels) if they want to beat CSR

I know many people dump on the green card but as far as I know there is no other card that offers you 3x on travel and gives you access to transfer partners. The CSR is the only other one I'm aware of

Green is good for me. Because of the value it gives now in benefits During 2020. Because I use it all the points it gives me. I use train and bus and for food it works for me. Been with Amex for 5 years. So I am good.

Might as well take Advantage while I have the green card because they are offering Ten dollars 💵 statement credit when you put your cell phone bill on it. So it works for me. I don’t need the gold because I have other cards for groceries also that I get cash back.

I saw your whole video and it true. What you said if you travel once. It’s not worth it.

I live in northern New Jersey close to New York City and not everywhere takes Amex. A lot of places do but not everybody.

I have to disagree with you about the American Express Gold Card. Anybody that eats is going to get a lot of value from it.

I enjoyed the video. I recently got approved for the gold card. After watching your videos and a few other videos from youtubers with similar content I've decided to eventually go for the AMEX trifecta. I'll get the AMEX Blue Business Preferred next but I'm on the fence about whether to round it out with the green or the platinum. I traveled by air for leisure about three times per year during the pre-covid era and will likely return to that in the future. I'm more of an Airbnb type than a hotel type but the 100k intro points and 10x on gas & groceries with the platinum is tempting. Plus I'd like to see places like Bora Bora and the Maldives which would ordinarily be out of my budget but I could probably swing it with the transfer points.

So I think I'll go for the platinum first, see how it works out for the first year then decide if I want to keep it or replace it with the green one after that. Thanks again for the content. I found it very useful.
