Chase Sapphire Preferred card is pretty worthless if you've already gotten the bonus. The only reason I can see to keep the card is just the ability to transfer to travel partners which doesn't seem worth it to me.. thinking about downgrading.

Offers have been steadily getting higher for years. We haven't seen the top end on anything. Points are only going to become more inflated and worth less over time. I'd say sign up for points bonuses if you intend to use them soon. They don't keep well.

Chase for sure pissed me off lol I got denied for ink card due to business not mature and $5000 sale wasn’t enough. And now they don’t match my 80,000 points sad face. I don’t know u should re apply for ink business or not. Any suggestion?

when you are calculating return on spend, you should also include the points for the spend. For example, you'd earn a minimum of 84k after spending $4k with CSP.

I think Amex has to up the anti to compete with Chase personally and I'm certainly eyeing that green card with over 40 percent returns.

If I get the CSP and then downgrade it after a year to the Freedom Unlimited, does that ban me from getting the $200 welcome offer if I then apply for a 2nd Unlimited? If so, then can I apply for the FU a couple months before I downgrade, get the $200, and then downgrade the CSP to another FU?

So Sebby, I am young and building my credit. I only have one card(Discover it Secured) and 4 months of credit history. My plan was to apply for the Amazon Signature card from Chase(I have prime) after 5-6 months of building my credit. Then build my credit for another 5-6 months and apply for the Chase Freedom Flex, do you recommend the Flex card or the US Bank Cash Plus card? Thank you(:

For the CSP, are you not going to account for the 1.25 cpp for using it like cash back ? Pay yourself back is really $1000. Let me know if I missed something

Love your videos Sebby!

But honestly, screw Capital One.

I had a Venture for about a year, downgraded to a Venture One before the annual fee, and was still charged the annual fee. Capital One refused to wave the fee. Calling in asking to move me back up to the Venture if they were still charging the annual fee was to no avail. Pretty terrible experience, I’m avoiding Capital One from here on out.

So, I just applied and was approved for the Flex. And I saw that CSP has an 80K SUB. My CSR bonus was awarded to me on my Oct 15, 2016 statement. I should be able to get the CSP bonus toward the end of the year, right? Do you think downgrading CSR to Freedom today and then applying for CSP in late October would set off any red flags?

Reply
Razer September 27, 2020 - 6:19 pm

I’m not sure we’re going to “flood gates” level of increased offers. I think applications for travel credit cards are (understandably) way down this year so they’re upping their offers now to make the end of the year numbers for new applicants look good. But I do think they’re going to revamp the CSP at some point. Maybe Dec/Jan? Because it still doesn’t make sense (intro bonus aside) compared to the new Flex benefits.

I applied and got ACCEPETED for Chase Ink Unlimited – company (LLC) was formed ~2 months ago. ~10,000 in income. ~730 Score. Previous history with Chase for 5+ years.

Chase is still denying business cards. I have the Ink Unlimited with them already, but they denied me for the Ink Cash card less than a week ago. Their reasoning was I opened too many accounts recently (3 total this year, 2 of them being Chase cards, and I'm at 3/24 today). They also said it was because my business wasn't established well enough even though I started it more than 5 years ago (and already have an Ink card with them), and they said it's because the business is not reporting to the business credit bureau, even though I already have an Ink card with them. These are clearly excuses that did not apply earlier this year when I got my Ink card and the other Chase card I have, Freedom. I'm going to apply early 2021 again and see what happens.

Nothing against Capital One; I've had the Venture for over 9 years (before moving on to Chase & Amex last year) and I have a high-yield savings with them, but for $20,000 at this very moment, you can get:

Sapphire Preferred ($4,000/80K UR Points)

Freedom Flex ($500/20K UR Points)

Freedom Unlimited ($500/20K UR Points)

Ink Cash ($3,000/50K UR Points)

Ink Unlimited ($3,000/50K UR Points)

World of Hyatt ($6,000/50K Hyatt Points)

IHG Premier ($3,000/125K IHG Points)

**TOTAL: $20,000 for 220K UR pts, 50K Hyatt pts & 125K IHG pts 😂

OR IF CHASE BIZ CARDS WERE STILL TIGHTENED:

Sapphire Preferred ($4,000/80K UR Points)

Freedom Flex ($500/20K UR Points)

Freedom Unlimited ($500/20K UR Points)

World of Hyatt ($6,000/50K Hyatt Points)

IHG Premier ($3,000/125K IHG Points)

Gold ($4,000/60K MR Points)

Green ($2,000/50K UR Points)

**TOTAL: $20,000 for 120K UR pts, 110K MR pts, 50K Hyatt pts & 125 IHG pts 😂

Hey Sebby!

Question – currently have the CFF and have preapproved offers for both the CSP and CSR… running the numbers, it seems like I'd be getting close to equal value either way I go, with a potential slightly lower net value on the CSR side.

Obviously the CSP's SUB is better than the CSR's, but with the CSR being the ultimate goal, is the CSP's SUB good enough to warrant picking it over the CSR for the first year, and then hoping for a credit line above 10k (I've heard there's a second hard pull if you try to product change from a <10k credit line to a >10k credit line) to be able to product change after the first year?

Or – should I just go for the CSR and skip the CSP altogether?
