Love my Discover It Student and Chase Freedom Student cards… got them both on the same day. Six months later, I’ve also gotten the BofA Cash Rewards Student Card (basically the same as the non-student version). One thing I will say about the Chase Freedom Student is that I still haven’t gotten the CLI…
grade point average, it's basically a representation of all of your grades (3.0 is good)
Surprise you didn't make a video about Chase releasing bonus categories for both the Hyatt and the IHG
As a university/college student, I opted to go for the Discover Chrome for students. My reasoning was that I really don’t spend a lot in the rotating categories (college students don’t make a lot, so college students don’t spend a lot). I barely spend enough on gas and restaurants every quarter to max out the cash back. Plus, I don’t have to keep track of what categories I’m getting cash back on each quarter.
I bet google know what GPA stands for in the USA 👀
"The Points Guy" convinced me to get the Capital One Venture card as my first card many years ago, listing it as one of the best cards for travel. However that card is never mentioned in any list of best cards by anyone else really. 2% back on everything with a $95 annual fee. I should have just gone with the Citi DoubleCash card for no annual fee. I feel scammed, but since it's one of my oldest cards, I don't want to cancel it.
Nice vid 👍 I'm currently in my Junior year and have:
– 1.5% BECU Visa
– AMEX BCP
– CFU
– AMEX Hilton Aspire
– CSP
– CF
– Apple Card
– AMEX Gold Card
They don’t actually check for the gpa you just have to say you have it… hint hint
Well-done video, Sensei.
GPA is grade point average. They assign each grade a number value (A=4, B=3, C=2…) and your GPA is the average of this. So for Discover you need a B average to get $20 in cash back.
must be nice not worrying about GPA. Grade Point Average is just a number value assigned to your total average of all classes. if you got all As (94% or higher) your GPA is 4.0. if you averaged A- (90-93%) your GPA is 3.66, and so forth. above 3.0 (roughly 85% average) is generally considered academically stable in the U.S.
My very first card was one to just build credit no rewards with a limit of 1,500. Then authorized member on Blue Cash Everyday and now have the Altitude Go. Thinking on my next one…
I think you forgot bofa cash reward card for students with a 200 dollar reward after you spend 1000 dollars but overall great videos ( I have the discover it and the card above and love them)
I think getting a card with your bank could be pretty handy as well! That's how it worked with me at least, had BoA for about 2 years before I applied for the Cash Rewards card, got approved with a $1200 limit. I also applied in person, which probably helped a good bit as well, skipped any of the secured cards that some might've had to go through. Had that for about a year, then applied for a few others, Apple Card being my second, Double Cash third, Blue Cash Everyday, Best Buy card, then the Freedom Unlimited. Kinda wish I got the regular freedom because it would've been more beneficial when I got it, as well as being able to have it as it was replaced with the flex. Next goals will probably be the Sapphire preferred or the Freedom Flex.
No offense… but the best credit cards for students right now is no credit cards. With Covid its all going to be UberEats and DoorDash.
Grade point average G.P.A
The freedom student was my second card so that I could establish a relationship with chase early. I have been loving the card so far.
I got the Discover It Secured card, im an 18yo living in Canada as a USA citizen
I would add the Bank of America Cash Rewards Credit Card for Students. No annual fee; 3% cash back on the category of your choice, including online shopping (students and Amazon!), dining, gas, travel and drug stores; 2% back on groceries and wholesale clubs; and 1% on everything else. $200 cash rewards bonus after spending $1000 (books, phone, computer!) in 3 months, 3% FX fee. Very strong card IMO.
I did the Discover IT card, secured, at 45 – having zero credit history. Not the student card, but honestly about the same. Hands down has been the most freely operating card with not only graduating the card to unsecure within the first 6 months, but also frequently upping my credit line without request. Of the cards I signed up for, it's the only one to up my limit without asking, and has upped my limit the most. Others have not even moved yet a year and a half later.
you forgot the chase freedom for students
Where did you go to school and where are u from?
I appreciate that you're trying to reach the college student demographic! Have you heard of any college students getting approved for the freedom flex? The "rewards" on the student version are kind of a joke.
✍️
I got the student to discover it card but the chrome version, when I didn't know much about cards but now I am trying to learn and was wondering what should be my next card. Maybe the chase freedom unlimited one?
Hey every, I am a college student and a part-time on and off worker but I am trying to build my credit which choice would be good for me ? And i also have a Wells Fargo student account?
I hope I dont sound really dumb but with all these cards I'm assuming that I need to open a bank account with each bank right? Or can I just have one bank account but apply for other cards?
Got got approved for the Chase Freedom Student card. This is my second card. First was the Discover It Student
I sign up for credit card at well Fargo they disapprove me for not having credit like how u disapprove me when I’m only 19 years old trying to build credit as a student I make 20 dollar an hour working in the trades since I was a high school freshmen can’t believe they disapprove me
Hello,
Does the credit min limit mean thats the lowest amount of money we should use on the card per month?
Never thought I’d see British Ben giving me financial advice
my first card is the Wells Fargo College Credit Card 800 dollar limit. I got a 2nd one not to long after which was the capital one credit card with only a 300 dollar limit.
Does discover it have a monthly fee?
The savor one student looks pretty good too
