Hey credit warriors, credit shifu here, today we are going to look at some of the best credit cards to use for grocery spending right now in mid 2020. This is a little bit of a different list to normal because many banks have added bonus categories for grocery just to get us through this time where instead of being here….

Chase 5x cards
Chase Sapphire Reserve 5x RU Points
United Club Card (5x United miles)
United Club Infinite Card (5x United miles)
United Presidential Plus Card (5x United miles)

$1500 spending per month, offer ends June 30th

Chase Freedom 5%/5x Q2 – $1500 in three months

Chase Sapphire Preferred Card (3x Ultimate Rewards points)
United Explorer Card (3x United miles)
United MileagePlus Card** (3x United miles)
United MileagePlus Awards Card** (3x United miles)
United MileagePlus Select Card** (3x United miles)
Southwest Rapid Rewards Plus Card (3x Rapid Rewards points)
Southwest Rapid Rewards Premier Card (3x Rapid Rewards points)
Southwest Rapid Rewards Priority Card (3x Rapid Rewards points)
Southwest Rapid Rewards Employee Card* (3x Rapid Rewards points)
IHG Rewards Club Premier Credit Card (3x IHG points)
IHG Rewards Club Select Credit Card** (3x IHG points)
World of Hyatt Credit Card (3x Hyatt points)
Hyatt Credit Card** (3x Hyatt points)
Iberia Visa Signature Card* (3x Avios)
Aer Lingus Visa Signature Card* (3x Avios)
British Airways Visa Signature® Card (3x Avios)
Disney Premier Visa* (3% Disney Rewards Dollars)

Those all have the same rules as the 5x, $1500 per month until June 30th.

Amex hasn’t been quite as broad as Chase, but they have brought in grocery bonus categories on some of their cards and they also have a couple of old favorites that still earn well at grocery stores, so the ones offering bonuses for grocery are the hotel cards:

Hilton Honors Surpass 12x

Hilton Aspire 12x
Amex Bonvoy modern art 6x on upto $7500
Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant 6x on upto $7500

Amex ends July 31st

Right now let’s move on to Citi.

So if you have the Citi prestige, you can trigger the $250 travel credit at grocery stores and restaurants. Now this is definitely something you should give priority to since it isn’t just a percentage back, it is actually refunding your entire bill up to $250. For me that would probably be one week of groceries for free. But for some people that would last a couple of months. If you are interested in checking out my what I spend in a week video, I’ll put the link below, it was a lot of fun to make. Anyway, this credit can be used for groceries up until Dec 31st 2020, so when I said give it priority, I don’t mean use it first, you may want to use your other Chase and Amex cards first before those deals finish. But if you think about it this deal on the prestige is like 100% cash back VS 5% or 5X points so make sure you use it before the end of the year.

Citi
Citi Prestige $250 travel credit can now be used at Restaurants and Grocery stores
(Until Dec 31st 2020)
Citi Premier will earn 3x at grocery starting Aug 23rd

And now we have the Citi Premier, which is offering 3x back on groceries starting Aug 23rd Yep you heard that right, so when Chase and Amex finish, the Citi Premier suddenly becomes an option. This was part of planned changes to the card and not something done because of the lockdowns.

ranges from 766-801 — I spend around $200 to $300 a week for groceries for my family. ALSO I am also looking for a card that not only gives cash back/points/rewards for groceries, but I want to use it to auto pay my monthly Internet/TV $210, and Phone bill $170. Which cards do you recommend?

Hilton points count as base not bonus points for status this year, so spend 166,666 dollars on groceries in two months and get enough for lifetime diamond.

Hi, I really enjoy your channel, thank you. I'm wondering why you never talk about the American Express Everyday Blue Card which offers 3% cash back at U.S. supermarkets with no annual fee?

We need an updated one, currently trying to think 🤔 how I should setup for 2022. I’m thinking Platinum, gold, Amazon already have the gold and freedom flex, freedom and freedom unlimited. Now I don’t travel much but the 10000 bonus on the platinum could help pay for a trip next year, also I like the idea of all the status updates / lounge access.
