Incorrect – “ $100 annual United travel credit after 7 flight purchases of $100 or more “ this is incorrect and it is a trap. 7 purchases don’t include flight ticket purchases, only in flight purchase, upgrades and etc. this is the main reason I am not getting United Business Card

As somebody who lives in one of those small college towns you were talking about, I can tell you you're using points to stay in a hotel during an athletic event like a football game is just not going to work. Most of the time those rooms are booked six months in advance immediately upon announcement of the schedule. The hotel's make darn sure they don't release any of those rooms for points redemptions. And that's particularly true for Marriott or ihg. The only chance you might have would be to use Hyatt points but the problem with that is there no Hyatts in any of these small towns.

$100 United Annual Travel Credit
Each anniversary year that you make seven (7) United flight travel-related purchases, each totaling $100 or more, with your UnitedSM Business Card, you will receive a $100 statement credit. United flight travel-related purchases include seat upgrades; Economy Plus®; inflight food, beverages and Wi-Fi; baggage service charges or other United fees. Anniversary year means the year beginning with your card account open date through the anniversary of the account open date, and each 12 months after that. The statement credit will post to your account within 24 hours of your 7th United $100 or more purchase posting to your account. To qualify, account must be open and not in default at the time of fulfillment.

For the IHG, you should add Mr&MsSmith boutique hotel into the list. Great video anyway. Thanks

My wife got approved for United Explorer card on 01.22 for the old offer 40k with 2k spend and + 25k with 10k spend. They switched to 60k with 3k spend on 01.23. She sent a secure message for them to match it. They said no. Then she called to check if they can match it they said no again. She already have a relationship with Chase (CSR and IHG card already on her account). So not her first card with them. I was more upset then her tbh. First world problems.

Chase business card do not count towards 5 /24, right in 2020?

What are other good ways to redeem United points for international travel? Their dynamic pricing has me worried – but I’m already running the Chase Trifecta and have a good chunk of United points from flying last year.

Thanks for all your helpful videos! You are the man!

Sebby, thank you for another informative video. I already have this card, which i applied 10 months ago. I’m assuming the sign on bonus only applies once in lifetime so there’s no point for me to cancel and reapply again?

Does Amex use 5/24 system any info anyone ?

Reply
Camilo Cereijo January 28, 2020 - 2:53 am

Hey Sebby! Thank you for all the info man! I do have a few questions

1) I have 0/24, just got approved for the CSR (now 1/24), and I'm not sure if I should go to one of the Amex cards next and use the Amex 3/4x benefit for most of my bills/purchases, or have most of my spenditure be in Chase and wait until 3/24 or 4/24 to go into Amex. I do own a business, I don't use hotels often, and I'm looking to travel a ton in 2021 (US & international)

2) Long-term, what do you do once you have gotten all your welcome bonuses and hit 5/24? At this point, is it just about maximizing referrals to continue building points (aside from general spending on cards)?

Thank you!

What always kills me is that with 25 per spend at Ihg properties, why not use the bonus spend there?? That’s an extra 75,000 points. Now it’s not ‘everyday’ spend buuuut that’s pretty nice!!

Reply
M V January 28, 2020 - 5:31 pm

That’s 140,000+75,000=215,000. And NOW you’ve got the extra intercontinental stays with fourth night free etc etc easily enough.

M V January 28, 2020 - 5:37 pm

Oooorrrrr if you are points crazy, do some points with cash deals for that minimum spend, and then the skies the limit and you have the time to plan with just points. Your buying points, but with the points with cash option, you can actually buy points for around .5 cents when you cancel the reservation, they keep your cash and deliver the adjusted points back to you. Then it’s a matter of finding “good” deals way over the .5.

Reply
M V January 28, 2020 - 5:38 pm

Not just any deals. You have to seek out the best points with cash for a two weeks stay for example, then cancel. Awesome.

You should do a video on the best cards for electronics purchases, because it seems I'm the only person who knows you get 6% back for all purchases made at Best Buy with their Citi Visa card. You need to spend $3500 in one calendar year either in store, online, or simply with the card itself anywhere to qualify for 6%, but that's relatively easy if you're in the market for a new TV, washer/dryer, etc. Plus, you get 10% back on your first day of purchases with the card in store or online, which makes the deal even sweeter. The downside is that you can only redeem for store credit and not cash, but if you purchase electronics or even movies often, it's a fantastic value. As a photographer, I'm always getting new SD cards, flash drives, hard drives, etc, and most of them, I never pay for because I have to buy other, more expensive necessities like a laptop (price-matched from Amazon, and that I write off as a business expense) desktop, monitors, etc. Any and every youtuber should also make use of this 6% deal. It's truly a hidden gem for the right people.

I just got the IHG Premier. Even as a casual card holder its definitely a keeper. Free anniversary night, TSA precheck, platinum elite status, and it's a World Elite Mastercard so you get all those benefits including cell phone protection. But I would definitely be careful with Chase because they will do a hard pull. Not that big of a deal if it's just one but if you have a few just watch out.

Hi Sebby, how long do credit cards keep their bonuses before they change? I want to know if I should wait or miss the increase sign up bonus.

Also, is there a source of the history of sign up bonuses per credit card?

Hi. I looked into IHG intercontinental for Ho Chi Minh in Vietnam for August and it’s telling me the cost is 20k points + $115/night? So the points don’t pay for all the nights, I’d have to pay additionally? Is this true of all IHG properties?

Hey Sebby, love the video man. For the Las Vegas fans…..people may not known the Venetian is an IHG hotel, and for those who like the opportunity to use those bonus points and stay at either of those spots, the card would be awesome!! It works at Palazzo also!! You're also right on that anniversary bonus also!!

Big news, Chase is no longer doing metallic cards!! I had a fraudulent charge on my IHG card and they sent me a plastic one. I called and they said that Chase got rid of all metallic cards, even the Sapphire Reserve 😳

I understand Chase offers great cards but they tend to be unforgiving if you have a serious mis-step. So there are people who are not going to be able to get Chase cards.

I'm planning to apply for the IHG Premier (using your affiliate link) and will be 4/24 middle of Oct — how soon should I apply for the card? I've read that I should wait till the beginning of the following month (Nov), and would like your take on it. Thanks!
