Hey credit warriors, we have exciting news for capital one savor card holders or people who are looking at getting the savor card or Savor One card. Maybe this will make you take the plunge and apply. If you like exciting news hit the subscribe button and bell notification so you never miss a video!

So Capital One is adding one new cash back category and increasing the cash back rate in another category on these two cards. And this is permanent and has actually already happened, the changes came in on May 18th. So what exactly have they done? Well they have added streaming as a category to both cards, the Savor will earn 4% and the Savor One will earn 3% on streaming services like Netflix, Disney Plus etc… This was actually a temporary benefit during the pandemic which went away like a month ago but now they have brought it back permanently.

But that is not all, there is another thing that is probably even more exciting, they have also increased the cash back rate on grocery spending from 2% up to 3% cash back on both cards! SO the cash back earning structure of the Savor and Savor One cards now looks like this:

Savor
4% cash back on dining and entertainment
4% on eligible streaming services
3% at grocery stores
1% on all other purchases
$95 annual fee

Savor One
3% cash back on dining and entertainment
3% on eligible streaming services
3% at grocery stores
1% on all other purchases
$0 annual fee

Definitely going to consider taking the plunge after this with those 4% categories!

If you had the Savor prior to summer 2018, like I did. You got grandfathered into the Savor with no annual fee. 4% dining, entertainment, 3% groceries… no annual fee.

I had the Cap One Savor. Tried to downgrade but was only able to change to the Quicksilver

Can you convert your cashback from the CapitalOne cashback portal to miles? If so, I've been sleeping on this!

What would be considered entertainment? Kinda confused on that category

The issue is you can literally get these same cashback percents on other no annual fee cards

Amex Blue Cash Preferred Card is still the king for grocery cash back.

FANG May 20, 2021 - 7:13 pm

Still not worth the fee… I mean, come on. Amex gold gives you 4 on dining and super markets plus 240 credit that you can use plus some other thing that basically makes it a "no fee" card if you want to put it that way. Savor should have no fee at all. Altitude go has already 4 as well plus a 15 credit in streaming. Yeah I get it, what other don't have is the so called "entertainment" category, but still!

Is the grocery category still the same as with the Amex Blue Cash where big box stores don't count as grocery?

I wanted a second capital one card I was looking at this one! My 5/24 just opened up so i can get one card!

A nice update, but not enough for me to apply. Amex bcp still better for groceries ad streaming. Chase FU / FF already have 3% dining. The 3% Entertainment would be a boost for me, but too small a category for an extra card.

Ben,

Yeah Capone is revamping their cards. The no annual fee savor one is looking better and better now.

My lowest cl and highest interest account. And they wonder why i never use it.

For my $95 AF on the AmEx Blue Cash Preferred, I get 6% on groceries and streaming, and other lower-percentage things. I get 3% on dining with Chase Freedom Flex/Unlimited. with no AF.

Capital One is going to have to try harder to get into my wallet.

just a lesser BCP, with an entertainment/dining category, which would be nice. though not worth another card for only one category. sticking to my BCP and my Apple Card(first card) for now.

A few months ago, Capital One was flooding my mail box with pre-approval letters for SavorOne. I didn't get it because I was holding my last 5/24 slot for a Chase card. Now that I have the Freedom Flex I wouldn't mind getting the SavorOne. Wish I could product-change my Quicksilver, but I understand they don't PC anything to a Savor or SavorOne.

How can I transfer my quicksilver rewards cash back to Venture?

Reply
Zach Stetson May 22, 2021 - 2:36 pm

Theres no point in getting the regular savor you'd have to spend almost $10,000 extra on dining and entertainment (when compared to the savorone) to actually get more rewards than the savor one because of the annual fee. The Savor one also has a welcome bonus with a much better percent back. $200 after spending $500 instead of $300 after spending $3000.

I have the savor and use it for 4% entertainment and dining. I have amex cash preferred for 6% grocery and streaming. But nice upgrade as my significant other pays less attention to which card she is using. Now it's less of a loss if she uses the savor for groceries. Nice!
