Can you talk about the "buy, borrow, die" strategy and is it a smart idea to borrow from "pledge asset line" vs living off from capital gains during early retirement?

Capital one customer service is terrible. Covid 19 caused me to not be able to go on a flight to Columbia for a bachelor party. Every one of my buds got a refund except for capital one. Buyers beware

Meh, the more I really thought about getting this card, the less attractive it is…no status hotels or partners… the transfer partners are pretty lame. 100k points is cool, but if you cannot use the points then what is the point. Rather put my 10k spend on something more worthwhile.

Ha ha ha, its funny to see banks play this puzzle game of numbers with their customers for their credit products and those who analyze and calculate every point to milk as much benefits as possible. Once you around 80-90 yrs of age and look back at how much money you saved and the 365 days of points calculation that you did , every point milker should feel proud of gaming multiple banking authority weirdo's rewards system because not everybody has patience for milking. This chase is similar to episodes of Tom and Jerry.

It's basically free …. $300 back in travel credit .. $100 back in points … that is your annual fee right there. So for me it's basically a free $1,000 sign-up bonus. I will stick to using Chase to book after I meet the $300 requirement. Won't be my go-to card.

Your math is wrong at 1:50. You only get the $100 anniversary credit if you renew the card and pay another annual fee, so you can't count that credit towards Year 1. It belongs to Year 2. Therefore, the first year annual fee is $95 (not -$5).

How easy is it to redeem Capital One miles for Southwest flights? With the Chase Sapphire Reserve I can do it but only over the phone.

Capitol one is the worst card ever .. complete garbage.. I could not pay my bill online because of their stupid security features when I called the 800 number and talked to someone in person and we tried to solve the problem I ended up hanging up an hour later after 5 tries failed even the guy on the phone with me said it was stupid. I ended up sending them a check in the mail when i finally got an address to send it to.. I told them to cancel the card .. Thinking I had paid it off 2 months later I get another bill with late fees added because the amount they told me to pay was wrong.. So I again paid it off via snail mail and I still get a bill saying I owe them $0 and could I please pay it asap before they add a late charge to it… SCREW Capitol One!!! They suck!!!! Oh and I use Chase and have NEVER had any problems .. pay my bill online never have issues …

Good benefits to this card, but I'll stick with my Chase Sapphire. My primary reason for getting the Chase Sapphire card in the first place (including all of the sign-up bonus points I received) is for the primary rental car insurance coverage, instead of just secondary insurance like almost every other credit card out there. Coverage also applies in a large number of other countries too. That alone is worth the card, for I don't have to pay for the rental company's damage waiver (which can easily cost $20+ a day), and I get to avoid my personal insurance getting involved or worrying about car rental companies billing me for the full amount of damage to the car (only to get reimbursed by the credit card company weeks or months later), should worst-case scenario happen.

DO NOT GET CAPITAL ONE. Worst customer service. I was scammed for $2000 and provided tons of evidence and explained everything in detail and they still didn't get my money back. They work like robots, no common sense. Along with the perks, you want a company that protects their customers with a luxury or premium card. Everything sounds nice, but when shit hits the fan Capital One DOES NOT have its customers back.

$300 travel credit only with CapitalOne travel portal? How is the travel portal? Is it marked up higher than booking directly with the company which makes you use more of your travel credit? That's one thing I like about CSR the $300 credit was automatically refunded when it's a travel expense. Thanks for the helpful video .. i cancel my CPR and enrolled with the CSP and got the 100K bonus point.

HI, Does Capital One care about if I had opened up 5 cards in last 6 months or so? One of them was Capital One Venture but that one was 7 months ago. I remember that we can not apply more than 1 capital one card within 6 months. Any suggestion on wait period if I wanted to add this card in my portfolio? CS is 818+

I recently got the Capital venture one card just to test it out and see how I feel about it. The spending limit to get the bonus miles was definitely within my spending/budget. The venture X doesn’t work for me because you have to spend $10,000 within six months and I don’t even spend that much money in a given time lol. But it’s okay, I’ll work with what I have and still get some perks.

For those who keep freezes on their credit most of the time, you’ll have to temporarily lift the freeze on ALL THREE CREDIT BUREAUS because Cap One may use any or all of them. However, once you do so and apply with good (740+) credit, they’re quick off the mark: I got an immediate approval. Also it takes a few days before you can apply for the Priority Pass benefit, but in 5-7 days from approval it should work.

You have to use their portal AMEX portal is crazy-expensive as they make you buy Full Fare Flights? So I feel like I'll be paying way more for using the portal

Akshit Singla November 20, 2021 - 9:10 am

Cmon Sebby, you gotta mention the bonus anyway (maybe include the timestamp if you expect it to change quickly)?
Also:
– are there any downgrade paths?
– It actually would be useful to throw in a screenshot of different transfer partners.

Also, unrelated question about APR:
If you get a 0% APR for 12 months, make a big purchase and keep paying min balance for 11 months + get rid of the debt completely by the 11th month – then does it effectively become a loan at 0% interest?
I understand there may be some fees associated if the expense is not a direct purchase.

Yeah but it's Capital One…. Plus how do they even have premium credit cards anyways when they don't approve people with premium scores? I don't think you can even get a card with Cap One if your CR is over 700 since they prefer junk credit. Me and many others on the forums have all been denied Cap One scores with over 800 scores and no debt. They just like to make money off those who go into debt.

Can you switch from venture one to venture X? or would you have to apply and have two cards?

Is anyone familiar with the fees charged for booking hotel rooms through the Capital One Travel site? Every booking seems to include an additional 10% fee above and beyond tax. When booking through Capital One Travel, they provides a comparison between Expedia and their own discounted "Exclusive Rate", but the total price is always significantly higher through Capital One Travel because of that extra (roughly) 10% fee they lump in with the taxes.

I spoke to 4 customer service reps last Friday and none of them could explain the fee. They could barely acknowledge it as the kept referring to it simply as "tax". They even offered a refund of the "tax" as a "one time courtesy" that they will apply to my account if I call back following my stay. Truly bizarre.

I was very much looking forward to using my new Venture X card but the benefit of 10X reward is erased if there's an additional 10% fee at booking.

I just got the Sapphire Reserve card a few months and paid the $500 annual fee. Would it be better to wait for that year to end then get the new Venture X or go ahead and get it now? I would hate to cancel it because I'll lose my $500 annual fee payment. Any suggestions?
