At least you can now get 5x for Grubhub on the gold card. It’s pretty awesome for me and my spending since I get grub hub about 2-3 times a week.

I noticed Uber Eats charges on CSR were listed as Food and Drinks cat. and did not trigger travel credits.

Goddamit I was really looking forward to that webull offer expiring. Every credit card youtuber has been pumping that offer for the last month. Pretty much 15 seconds of every video is dedicated to it.

So your saying I could use my travel credit on my Ritz-Carlton card for delta gifts

I called AMEX earlier this week and I was given the option of 30,000 MR points or a $300 statement credit for the Platinum Card. For my Gold Card, I was offered 10,000 MR points or a $100 statement credit. Either way, combined with all the other perks… sounds like 💰 to me! 🤑🤑🤑

Verizon adds $10.00 to your bill if you pay with a credit card vs a debt card so it would be a wash if I use my gold card to pay my phone bill

I have a question, I upgraded my no annual fee Hilton Honors Amex to the surpass in January and wasn't charged the annual fee until my card anniversary which is December of this year, I was wondering if I can upgrade to the aspire after 6 months from upgrading since I will have a big Hilton spend coming up.

American Express could have given out $50 in Best Buy credits for the Gold card or something like that.

So this isn’t really Sebby’s fault or anything, more so the ad companies. Nevertheless I find this very annoying. But why not give additional benefits when people try your service through a big youtubers referral that the company is paying them for? Like when Webull says oh you’ll get 2 free stocks from now until X…it’s literally been that way as long as I can remember having Webull. These companies just come off as cheap and repetitive in these situations. Or like when streaming services advertise they’ll tell youtubers to say to sign up through their link and they’ll get insert the same exact benefit they would get if they just went straight to the website and bought it that way.

I knew and agree that AmEx would not boost Gold. But it would have been cool if they added Uber Eats to the food credit to make up for the airline incidental and add a mini super power to those that have Platinum and Gold

Unfortunately,Amex Canada dropped the platinum bonus offer from 50.000 to 25.000 as of today! however yearly fee stayed same.699$my opinion not worth it anymore.

My grocery card became the CSR with 5x back. The Gold is now relegated to only being a Grubhub card. Amex should at least extend the $100 incidental credit.

Reply
thejokerspeaks May 16, 2020 - 8:17 am

The Gold card is strong enough even with zero airline incidental credits, as long as I used up $100 of the grubhub credit, I'm still earning 4% cash back with Schwab after $150 affective AF. Half of my MR points earn 1.5 – 2 cents towards travel, but better to consider the lowest redemption per card.

I’d like to see an explanation of what Amex is doing for folks who want to get great value out of using their points. The best value was always flights. Now that no one is traveling what do we use out points on?

100 Sebby's in a room thinking about this – No way "There can be ONLY ONE!!"
I'm fine with AMEX not doing anything with the Gold. It has given me a ton of MR points in the past couple of months. And I used my flight credit just before all this kicked off, so I'm good!!

In comparing benefits, I would like to see a comparison between the AMEX MBB and the Chase Ritz Carlton card!! Which high end Marriott Card has better super-powers (or regular powers)?? If someone is under 5/24 (or back under), is it worth getting the Chase Marriott Boundless card, waiting a year, and then product changing to the Ritz? Or just getting the MBB straight away and use that for your Marriott stays and benefits? Thanks

Using my Hilton Aspire for Supermarkets.
Using my Platinum for streaming and mobile.
Using my Green for mobile. I pay a portion of the mobile with my Platinum and a portion with my Green and that gives me a $30 advantage!
I’m good with American Express!

I had to refund the flight that activated my $300 travel credit on my CSR. I was mildly surprised that Chase refunded the entire flight to cash vs. reinstating the travel credit.

I'm one of those Gold card college students. Just makes a ton of sense for groceries and restaurants, and I can use the travel credit to get a cheaper flight on Southwest somewhere fun.

I'd be careful about buying airline gift cards especially when the airlines are not doing well. Some may go bankrupt. No one knows which airlines will stay or go bankrupt a year from now. So putting $$ in gift cards in airlines is a bit risky.

Sebby, I wanted to give you and the community a data point. I received an offer in the mail a day or two ago from Chase for their Slate card. My offer includes 0% intro APR on purchases for 15 months, 0% intro APR on balance transfers for 15 months, and $0 intro balance transfer fee for the first 60 days. So it looks like the Chase Slate card still exists, but maybe only via targeted offers currently. (Of note, I have four credit cards with Chase, but no other types of accounts with them.)

AMEX is a business and great company. They have been good to me and their products are well worth it. I use my AMEX Platinum and Gold cards in their own ways. But together, they earn a lot of MR points. This year is a slight exception for many of us, but temporary. Great video, Sebby!

Amex is dropping the “pay over time” option on my Green card effective 1 Aug 2020. I read over the info but I didn’t spend a lot of time on it as I was on the way to work. Seems like they are coming out with a similar program but I didn’t understand the reason for the change. I had a 35k limit on the pay over time option.

I just got the Amex delta platinum. This is my first Amex. How do i get the $100 credit for delta purchase within 3 months that comes with the sign up bonus? Is there anything that i can purchase online since i wont be flying? The fine print did say that gift cards would not trigger the bonus.

Can anyone confirm if Spectrum Mobile is an eligible wireless provider in AmEx's eyes? Brain Jung indicated that he was able to get the credit using Mint Mobile. Thanks!
