PayPal is my favorite category because I pay rent with it!

FYI, 7-11 codes as a gas station with Visa.

Shell gas stations let you use Chase Pay to pay for gas. Still have a couple weeks to get the 5% back.

Pro tip: shell gas stations accept chase pay. So you can get 5% in gas whenever chase pay is a category.

I’m pretty consistently spending 60-70 a month of gas, so unfortunately this is definitely a weaker category for me. Non-zero (like this quarter, same as you), but low. My Discover It card has been putting in serious work for that Amazon category though. Probably going to get the Amazon Prime card in the new year.

Really strong categories from Chase. And Discover is really good for Q1 for me considering I'm a broke college student and only spend money on gas and groceries

Some phone services and internet services let you prepaid your bill, even over what you will owe.

You can still get 5% on gas now download the BP gas app or shell u can still get 5% cashback at gas stations using PayPal payment or chase pay. It helped me maxed out.

Paypal is such an easy category to hit. You can use it on Uber‘s, lyfts, seamless, Ebates, basically any online retailer like Best Buy Walmart Macy’s target ect. How did you not spend anything?

Hey Shifu! For Q1, Just buy gift cards to the gas station you get gas from! I get gas from Arco, so I buy 15 $100 gift cards and max out the quarter in a single purchase!

The freedom card has a new design. It looks more like the unlimited now

If you make a purchase to get a Sub (Hoagie) at a gas station like WaWa that will also count for 5x the Chase Freedom points. A WaWa without gas pumps would code as a grocery store purchase so keep that in mind.

Does this work on Freedom Unlimited as well?

Love it! Another quarter easily maxed out! I have a very thirsty F150, and some road trips coming up. Hopefully be another quarter of gas, and hopefully some wholesale clubs this year as well.

I maxed out both mine and my wife's freedom cards this last quarter of 2019. Used chase pay via samsung pay and literally stacked the points on everything i could: groceries, gas, drugstores, some restaurants, coffee shops, costco etc. 15,000 URP in just 1.5 months, my absolute record maxing out two cards in a quarter and under 2 months.

I wish the gas category included gas delivery for home heating furnaces. It’s literally the same stuff just delivered to your home.

CIC already has CF Q1 2020 categories covered and for higher spend. Chase Pay no longer exists. I am curious if Shell and other Chase Pay gas station partners will have new deals to encourage Chase customers

LOL… Just do what I did. Bought a new TV and sound bar at BestBuy with Chase Pay. Usually they are the same or slightly cheeper then Amazon and you get it same day.

Do gas stations have gift cards for other places? Walmart, fast food, etc?

Reply
Joe December 14, 2019 - 9:13 pm

This quarter was easy to and out, I ended up changing a Chase card of mine to a second freedom card. You can by Walmart gift cards and check out using pay pal. Then spend the money at Walmart on food, electronics, other gift cards, whatever

Its oddly so nice to hear you say you used your surpass card for gas. I dont have a card for gas really so the surpass is my go to when its not on a 5% card.

If you had a Samsung Galaxy S phone, it super easy to max out the 2019 October – December 5%. Every transaction using Samsung Pay worked as Chase Pay 5%. Virtually any payment made with your phone gives u 5%. i maxxed it out in October lol

Good morning Shifu!!!!! Up where we live, the gas station Quick Check sells a ton of gift cards if you have one in your town!!!

Chase freedom has been garbage this quarter. Managed to use chase pay at Best Buy and SOME shell gas stations. If they hadn’t announced gas this quarter I was going to make this a freedom unlimited. I may still do that.

Reply
Gabe The Babe January 6, 2020 - 4:31 am

For the 2020 Q1 bonuses for phone bills. I have Verizon and I’m still playing off my physical phone would the 5% count towards the actually principal payments of the phone or only the cellphone service bill?
