Lame…
I just got the Amazon card too.
New Freedom Flex customers get 5% back on gas for the first year!!!!
It’s so frustrating because the Discover card is actually logical about when people spend the most in those categories. Chase could easily just wipe away the competition by mirroring their schedule with a card that earns points
Could you purchase gift cards on Amazon to max it out?
I was hoping for home improvement stores since I shop at my local Ace Hardware a lot for supplies to work on house stuff and for bullets. Wholesale clubs would have also been a good bonus category.
I’m glad it’s not gas as next quarter is gas on discover
Wow. I know the guy with hot dogs the picture. His name is Oleg Svish (Ukrainian comedian). 🙂 So funny to see him in that video
Category 2 is super trash. It should of been gas ⛽️
The discover IT 5% is great
I'm good. I'll use my amex cash preferred that earns me 6% on groceries. I use my citi cash that earns me 5% on gas.
Can I buy a gift card (for gas) at the supermarket and collect points?
the Citi custom cash card is better than the freedom officially, 5% cash back monthly in the category you spend the most on. No need to wait on chase to choose a more reasonable category, like gas maybe?
Thanks for sharing 👍
Hey Ben quick question: does it make sense to buy groceries w/ Freedom Flex for the 5x instead of AmEx Blue Cash Preferred earning 6% back? I'm going to downgrade BCP this year since it's not worth the annual fee to me. But wondering if 5x Chase points translates into 8-10% back if redeeming at higher value
Meh.

I feel like I am being called out here
40% of my food spend is Chipotle and Dunkin
40% is Freshly meals
15% is various restaurants
Maybe 5% is groceries .. so not EVERYONE shops at grocery stores, at least not a lot
I don't feel like I have a problem .. I'm in better shape than 95% of men in my age cohort who go to the grocery store and cook more meals than me 😛
Time to whip out the discover it and the Citi custom cash card for petrol purchases
2:05 I am hoping for not gas. I'm driving a rental that uses gas right now, but my main car is in the shop and electric. So gas is mainly useless to me, even if it included charging stations the cost for a charge is cheap and I mainly charge for free at my apt overnight. Along with gas I also don't want gyms (my work has a gym), Target (it's more than 5% more expensive than HEB and Walmart), streaming (I spend like $20 a month on VRV and YT premium which doesn't qualify), Internet (only $55 a month), phone bills (only $25 a month), and home improvement (I don't own a home).
My ideal categories are grocery (or walmart), paypal, Amazon, and restaurants.
discover is offering gas for Q2
Weird day. So I am a teacher and was trying to find a good video on the Han Dynasty for my China unit. Well I click on a video and what do you know, to my surprise the one and only Credit Shifu is the one explaining the Han Dynasty. Well, congrats for ending up in my class and I mentioned to the students that the host of the video has an excellent finance channel.
I absolutely adore my freedom flex!
At 2:10 lmmfao
should get a Discover card I heard our card is offering 5% at gas stations? starting in April?
for you ,you need gas but what about people who live in big city's they don't have gas stations. they use mass transit , I understand this!
Disappointing quarter…
Isn’t chase running a promotion on the freedom cards with 5% back right now? They probably didn’t want to give people 9x back right now if I had to guess
I was hoping for dining
IHG card is sneaky good for gas
wow i maxed out my two freedoms because i buy amazon gift cards. Now ill max these. 30k points easy!
Well, guess the Freedom is going in the drawer for a while
I guess this is kind of strategy for the Chase. They don’t want to have same category, because some consumer might not benefit with all categories.
Wym 5% cash back for the first 6 grand in the first year is on the website
Very very hard for me to max out grocery stores… I shop at costco for most thing and I have a chef at work for $46 a month that covers lunches and a lot of dinner…
Streaming services is kind of useless if you already payed for the yearly rate and don't pay monthly.
Quick question: why would you keep the freedoms as is instead if product change to Freedom Flex?
Yeah, these are pretty trash categories for me personally unless I happen to have a larger purchase like a laptop coming up (which I don't). We have like 3 of those streaming services for a total of maybe $35 / month which isn't even worth switching the payment method to me. They're more valuable in their current use as a way to have small monthly payments to automate keeping cards that we use less often active.
It's a little sad to see such common categories lately. Anyone who's spending that much on Amazon probably already has the Prime card, and streaming is covered by the BCP (as well as just not being a very large spend category generally).
If I product change my Freedom Flex card to a freedom OG card, can I still be eligible for sign up bonuses on a New freedom flex card?
Eh I’m actually not against Amazon and streaming. Streaming is pretty weak since most people’s monthly streaming bill is maybe $20-30 but I don’t have the Amazon card and have some things to order off Amazon so I think this will be a quarter I can at least spend about half of the $1,500 organically.
Gas would’ve been nice for most but my civic is getting me about 30mpg and I fill up maybe twice a month haha!
Where can you find your progress of spending on your activated quarterly bonus?
The Discover It card is 5% for Gas and Target for Q2.
The only streaming service I use is Crunchyroll. I already have the Amazon card as well, but luckily I just got the freedom flex so it’s still a great 5% gas card for the whole year.
Ah darn, awful categories for me. I avoid Amazon as much as possible to support the underdogs
