Chase Sapphire Reserve And Sapphire Preferred Are STALE…They NEED A REVAMP – Waller’s Wallet

by YouTube Team

The Chase Sapphire Reserve and Sapphire Preferred are in much needed refresh after the new Chase Freedom Flex and updated Chase Freedom Unlimited were announced. The Sapphire Reserve has been a favorite travel credit card for many, but a few changes could make it even better. Then the Sapphire Preferred has needed a serious update for a while. And it would be great to see it compete with the Amex Gold

The CSR needs to be revamped to 4x dining and travel, 4x groceries. That annual fee is becoming too high to justify the low multipliers

The CSP is a shitty card now when the Freedom Flex is giving you 3x on dining.

AmEx and Citi have really stepped it up during Coronavirus times and making it easier for people to earn points on things we would normally spend. I think Chase is finally seeing the writing on the wall. Now's the time to expand and get creative.

If things went exactly as you said, I would drop my Reserve in a heartbeat and get the Preferred.

I'm holding my ground for the preferred refresh. Waiting to see what chase has to offer before I pull the trigger on the gold card

I know that’s what we want, but they already have probably the most popular program. People with a chase trifecta are really invested.
Chase people think it’s the best, so why give more?
I think the UR earning rates stink, I spend most of my money on groceries, gas, Dining out, so they hit my 3rd highest spending category, but it’s all about perception. With that being said, when or if I ever get under 5/24, I will be hunting those bonuses!!!

After the lowest rung of the credit ladder, personal credit; one moves on to business credit. Then one only uses personal credit cards for transfer point bonus multipliers like the sapphire 1.5 for points made on the ink proffered 3% online marketing points for pay yourself back.

Amy other setup is small potatoes by comparison to this combo.

That dude like 2% on groceries for the Chase Sapphire preferred and I'm saying well I don't even running Amex set up anymore so to me I feel like the sapphire preferred would destroy them

Do anyone know if US bank altitude reserve insurance covers trips booked through costco travel/3rd party travel sites? I thank anyone in advance that knows the answer to this question!

Add hotel status to all hotel brands. This would make Chase a complete premium travel card.

They ABSOLUTELY need a refresh. I have the CSP and in less than a week… my CFU (my only other Chase card) will get more points on dining… >.< WTF?! Chase needs to add grocery and gas to one of their cards. I don't like how the CFF and CFU are getting the same bonus categories. Too much overlap. I'm even less inclined to apply for the CFF when I hit 91 days on the CFU. Unless Q4 has a fantastic category, I'll wait until 2021 to apply for the CFF.

Im expecting a better and more expensive Preferred, or directly a complementary Preferred for the CSR at the same price (Only one Sapphire)

I like the broad travel category, Stop giving them ideas Waller.

I am praying Chase sees this and implements some or all of these things you have mentioned. I would be more of a fan of Chase if they do. But, that still leaves Chase with crappy transfer partners. What good are all those changes if they have no good partners? Take care Dustin and keep your family safe!

4X groceries will come at a higher AF for CSP. Mark my words.

Think chase is testing see how the new flex card and added benefits of its something to add on to preferred and reserve. Honestly I hope they don't and just keep it how it is to many overlapping cards plus they make more if you have multiple cards with them.

I don't like the portal redemption value's dropping, however i think this is a winning combo. I'd love to see the point earning changing to exactly where you've mentioned, or something VERY similar.
The one thing that would also have to change, imo, is the 5/24 rule. The 5/24 rule is great at keeping Chase exclusive however if they add another complimentary card to the mix then 5 cards is just too small. Maybe not eliminate it, but change it to 7/24 or something like that?
For example, i have the Bonvoy Brilliant, Platinum, CSR, and CFU as well as a few other's that i've applied for. I'd like to grab the UA Explorer as well, and let's say i did grab it vs a few of my others. That is 5 cards, that are beneficial for an avid traveler. That person is then blocked out from the CSP and it's grocery and All Travel earning rates. Even if they went after a Hilton card with Amex instead of Marriott. You're still blocking too many out of cards and partner cards they need to maximize travel.
All of this being said, i also really like the idea of adding the United Lounge to the CSR. Priority pass is nice however bland at best. Since Chase and United are paired up so well, it would be nice to have access to the United Lounge when flying, United, home from airports that don't offer the Centurion lounge. But i can't justify the AF of the UA Club AND CSR together.

Any word on whether the Chase Ink Unlimited is getting any of the new Freedom Unlimited perks? Prior to announcement it was on par, but haven’t seen any marketing material yet….

Eliminate the one sapphire rule. Make CSR a travel focused card to align with Platinum; 4 or 5x on broad travel. Eliminate dining category. Make the CSP the “foodie” card to align with Gold; 3 or 4x on restaurants and groceries.

CSR desperately needs status perks. Wishlist: Avis Preferred Plus, Hyatt Explorist. They’ll never include United Club access because that would render the Club card useless (different from Delta Reserve/Amex Plat relationship with respect to SkyClub because the Delta Reserve earns MQMs).

Preferred definitely needs an update. I would consider getting it if they added more cashback categories and expanded the sign up bonus time to 6 months instead of 3 months like Amex is doing with the gold card right now.

What really sucks for me is my annual fee for the CSR is due this month, and I scared to product to a CSP since I have a feeling that Chase will make great changes to the CSR.

I feel like they can keep The cards as they are but just increase the multipliers. Everyone clamoring for groceries and gas – – that seems like a missed category that should’ve been on the freedom flex. I’m still not really sure what Chase’s issue is with those two very high spending categories.

I’ve been wishing for this for the past year, and here’s what I’d like to see: Chase can bump the annual fee on the Reserve up to $700-750 and have it be the ultimate card combining various benefits from Amex Platinum and Gold like 5x on travel, 4x on groceries, gas, etc. Or save some of that for the Preferred but bump up the Reserve to be THE card. If either Chase or Amex does that I am all in.

Dang I got the CSP now the flex is better omg rather have more on groceries smh , I hope they revamp the CSP , I almost upgraded it last December to CSR but now idk , maybe I just stop using chase and rather maybe getting a better premium card.

Big issue: the single Sapphire rule. Anything they do for the CSP leaves CSR holders out in the cold. If they fix both at least they can resurrect the dead Preferred.

They could go to 4X on gas, dining, groceries, and travel on the CSP, and I would still have no reason to leave my AmEx set up.

The CSR is a travel card. Don't stink it up with adding a grocery category at the expense of point value or travel multipliers.

Just realized…Chase has a Sapphire Family Rule whereby we can only have 1 Sapphire product at a time. So even if Chase refreshes the CSP with strong everyday categories (like 4X grocery & gas), then as long as we have the CSR, we couldn't get it 😆 Makes me appreciate Amex's approach with the Platinum + Gold. No problem having both. Now I'm wondering what Chase will do. 2X on travel + dining just isn't competitive anymore.

Great insight on your part. Very interested to see what Chase does. I feel like people are downgrading/canceling the CSP left and right and AF has been $95 for over a decade. I feel like a refresh in Q1 2021 is inevitable. $150-$200 AF with everything you mentioned would be great, maybe an additional perk or two

Honestly. I’d focus on the Sapphire Preferred. Annual fee increase to $175. Reduce travel redemption bonus to 15%. 4X on grocery and 3X on Gas, 5X on Travel portal. Also. Bigger expansion of Chase Offers. Have an option to receive Ultimate Rewards points to increase value. Make it exclusive to the Reserve or Preferred. I’d leave the Gold card. I don’t need monthly credits and it’s expensive. Only keeping it because of how long I’ve kept it open.

the 25% and 50% redemption is one of my favorite pieces. I would even take a $600 AF on CSR and a $350 travel/dining credit. With the CSP I would even take a $150 annual fee with a $50 travel/dining credit. The 2X Dining/Travel on CSP is just terrible. The only benefit now that is worth it to me is the 1:1 travel partners.
