He just convinced me that i should stick to my amex setup over the chase trifecta. Ima still keep my chase cards, just won’t really maximize on ur points over mr points

If chase could add Alaska, that would be great

But using the travel bonus is really easy and like you said it pays taxes and still earns points

Chase and Wells Fargo are the only 2 major banks I don't have a relationship with. I'll officially be out of 5/24 in October this year, so I'm hoping i'll be approved for the Freedom Flex.

I'm not AMEX's targeted audience due to my very low spending in general.

Citi would be great if they added travel and purchase protections back to the cards. Not to mention their website SUCKS, so autopay is a must for Citi!!!!

BoA, I doubt their travel program would get competitive right now.

Capital One is making interesting moves, but I think they only allow 2 cards per holder??

Discover, they're designed for pure cash back

Barclay's, co-branded cards

US Bank, they need work on transferring system with their cards although they do have potential

Five Chase Changes Wishlist:
1. Upp earning rates/new cetagories
2. Scrap one Sapphire rule
3. Add 2-4 new transfer partners (at least one or two “quality” ones)
4. Reform Chase offers so they earn UR and make it as numerous or even 1/2 the typical number of Amex Offers. Maybe reform the Shop Thru Chase portal as well.
5. Make more Lyft or Peloton-style earn partnerships that work seamlessly for Sapphire. Rotating partnerships of 15-20 for 1-1.5 years.
Come on chase!!!!!
Bonus: step up your business card game too

Amex just kills it. And Citi just came out with a 5% No AF card….. Chase is just riding on the fact that they have horrendous websites like thepointsguy hyping them up

While I agree with the point that Chase UR has been stale of late, I think it is still the best rewards system for families due to it's ease of use and flexibility. I often have to book travel for 4-6 people and it is very difficult to do by transferring to airline miles. With UR, I have the option to transfer miles or just book through the UR portal directly. Southwest airlines is also very good for family travel.

Awesome collaboration. 👌. And you know I agree that Chase is completely overrated. #teamamex Take care Dustin and keep moving forward.

Cool stuff. Advantage of Chase Points are the multiple sign up bonuses that you can get then product change to no annual fee cards. Long term my only only fee cards will be Ink Preferred, United Explorer Business and maybe IHG Premier for high end hotels. Amex and to a Citi will be my programs.

Chase needs to get their shit together and up the multipliers on the Sapphire cards.

Except that it's worse than cash back – have you ever tried to get cash back (or cash+miles however you paid) from chase travel for a flight? Good luck. Even if applicable laws should guarantee you a timely refund chase travel (expedia) won't give you a refund. you'll be stuck with a travel voucher from the airline which must be used in a relatively short timeframe. Even normal changes to travel require a call to chase travel, no web, app, or chat options. Hard pass on using the 'cash back' feature of chase travel. You'll waste time and money.

I opened the CSP specifically just to transfer the bonus to Hyatt. No point in keeping the CSP after a year

Get rid of the 5/24 Rule.
Get rid of the "One Sapphire" Rule.
Increase multipliers to 3x/3x for CSP and 4x/4x for CSR.
Add a couple more transfer partners.

Those four things would make Chase better again.

I just realized a couple days ago I am over chase. The 5/24 has restricted me so much. Im going to get a United card (it the only airline at my local airport) or Marriott card and then be done and just start opening alot of other cards outside of chase I have been wanting to get

When I started out I got a Chase Freedom for cash back… and then blew past 5/24. I get good value from Amex and Citi points programs. I don't really feel like I'm missing out by not having a Sapphire.

So I just bought a return ticket to NY from VA, with one stop, through chase travel portal, and it cost me 32k points. But directly through United would have cost me 36 points! So this time travel portal was cheaper. But do you think 32k is too high for a domestic fair?

For me the Reserve's value is based on the general travel language on its card. It covers trains, buses, taxis, airbnb, hotels, flights, cruises, expedia, tolls, etc. Other cards don't cover that.

Reply
Oshex June 24, 2021 - 6:10 pm

I think the Reserve is transitioning into a Platinium card with the credits. Adding a 4x on groceries for the Sapphire would cost Chase serious money. I think it is tough right now because if you spend all of your points with Chase, it is hard to get those points back with multipliers.

They need a better credit to add to the CSP to offset the annual fee. Hope that capital one can get its act together.

You've been able to transfer Savor cash to C1 miles for a long time and it's a perfect card duo for people who spend a lot on dining and entertainment. Also, complain all you want about not all of C1's transfer partners being 1:1 but the fact is it's a natural balancer for the fact that you get 2x on everything. If all their partners were 1:1, it would objectively be the best travel card on the market. As it stands, it's not objectively the best but it is very competitive.

What people don’t understand is these changes are meant to make people cancel. Amex is trying to take the card more upmarket and exclusive. Right or wrong, Amex would rather have fewer but more profitable customers.

Mr. Berry July 6, 2021 - 11:55 pm

Citi's only current weakness is no travel insurance. They could raise the annual fee to $600 for the Citi Prestige and add Trip delay & trip cancelation insurance to spark demand for their premium card. Unfortunately, Citi's leadership is lazy.
