Hey Sebby, I am young and building my credit. I have one card, the Discover-it secured card, and currently have 4 months of credit history. My plan is to apply for the Amazon Signature Card from Chase after 5-6 months of building my credit. Then build it for 5-6 more months and apply for the Chase Freedom Flex. Do I go for the Flex or US Bank Cash Plus card for my third card? Or any other suggestions. Thank you!
Like I said in the comments on the previous video, I tend to work under the assumption that points currencies will inflate vs. cash over time. The news from Delta seems pretty encouraging, though, especially since I have a lot of SkyMiles and MR points sitting around doing nothing right now. Chase's COVID related offers are also nice for people who need a break, but I also see it as a way for them to encourage people to not hoard points. Eventually travel will come back, and the industry will lag behind on the recovery if everyone just cashes in saved up points. The fact that Amex isn't really doing anything like this makes me a little worried that they may just devalue the points when the time comes.
How is this any good? The CIP pay yourself back adds to an already good card, but the Sapphire cards are bad unless you are doing a lot of traveling. Best case scenario on the CSR is you are using points you earned for a 5% category when you use pay yourself back adding 2.5% to your grocery purchase. Add that to the 1% you get from the card and that is 3.5% back on groceries. You would be better off redeeming for cash and putting that spend on a card that gives 4%+ for groceries like the Amex gold. This is just a trap to think Chase is giving you something when they are still losing to AMEX.
My strategy is still downgrade Sapphire cards or wait until you are back to normal travel to get one. Chase needs to add something of value like increased earning for gas or groceries. Even 2% on groceries plus pay yourself back would make the card more attractive.
Chase strategy question. I have 5 Chase cards. Freedom (primary), Freedom (unused for 1 yr), Flex (converted from unused Freedom), Amazon (obtained years ago), and Unlimited (obtained > 1yr ago).
Should I close the unused Freedom and see if I eventually get any good offers?
I don't travel so airline and hotel rewards are not useful. I don't own a business so business expense rewards are not useful.
They did this 3 weeks after I got the CSP. X.x
Did you do a Chase Ritz update? Aarrgh
I thought 5x on Groceries for CSR ended Jun 30,2020?
I have never had a points card. Is there a video for newbies? This is confusing.
Love that Chase extended the PYB program! It's been so nice to just redeem all my points on those common expenses instead of having to book thru Chase travel, since either way you're getting the 50% redemption bonus. It's basically free money!
I’m torn between getting the Marriott boundless card or the sapphire preferred card right now as my first annual fee card and both have really good offers right now
I knocked out my 5 k minimum spend for my aspire by purchasing my engagement ring. Wish we had a rotating category for a once in a life time jewlery purchase. On a side note, can you make a video about Intercontinental Ambassador Status and if its worth it?
Is Chase also extending their temporary offers on Sapphire Reserve/Preferred on Instacart, Gas, and Streaming services too?!
lol damn i was surprised about the gender viewership stat but then i scrolled through the comments… it's true 🙁
I’m a subscriber. I’m retired. But for the pandemic, I could travel whenever I please. They will begin competing when travel resumes in earnest. Early travelers will likely reap the benefits.
Quick question, might be soo unrelated. Do you know Which card gives you the most cash reward after using 1,500 in your first 3 months. Please
I signed up for the Chase Freedom last October and received the sign up bonus. Can I apply for the Preferred and receive another bonus for it? Is there a wait period to receive the preferred bonus?
The debate was freaking fantastic I loved it
Thanks for all the awesome details.
I am confused with the 7.5 percent return on groceries with CSR. Are you staying spend on PayPal/Walmart with CFF then buy groceries with CSR for redemption? In this scenario, would you hold off on using grocery spend on CFF for the first year bonus?
Great information as always! Love the “flying into the lightning round of deal” part
Yeah you got some silverware but really ARE YOU EATING THOUGH??
Right now my FICO score is 795 so I think I’m gonna wait til it gets into the 800 to get a card. Kinda torn between the CSP or FLEX.
Im flying to Denver next month wish me luck i book with points 49 smackroonies both way still on the fence to cancel gulp
I am wondering if the minimum income for Sapphire Preferred is around 50k? I got turned down.
So Sebby, question: just got my $450 re-up this month. Is the $450 AF still worth it though given that I can't use the $300 credit until 2021 since its on calendar year… or bc chase has expanded categories on cheaper or NO fee cards, better off using those since I don't travel or even use uber/lyft anymore. I do however have 500K in Ult Rewards under my CSR… should i downgrade/cancel my CSR to avoid the $450 and sign back up sometime in 2021?
Hey Sebby were you aware that the bonus restaurant category on the flex stacks with the 5x categories? I bought some chipotle take out using paypal key so it registered as a paypal purchase and got 7x points back. Also worked with Five Guys.
@sebby – Given that the CSR instacart benefit is over, should current CSR holders cancel or call for a retention offer?
