Regency gets you through parking fees. 30 per night at Baltimore but room is free. Hyatt place at Flushing Queen is cat 3, rooms are like 200 ish.

This was a great review of the card use and the trip. I love the hotel keeper cards, because they make a nice weekend trip a couple hours away very affordable. Also, when traveling overseas, it can be fun to stay one night in the fanciest hotel allowable, and the other nights stay somewhere you might normally stay at. The hotel cards provide a lot of options at no cost assuming you always stay in a hotel at least once a year.

Guys, what this so call "points guy" doesn't disclose is that you will pay taxes on benefits you get from credit card companies. After you redeem points, they will report it to the IRS and you will pay taxes. So, are you really coming out ahead? Never. But, you get something back extra for spending money you would have spent anyway.

Nice video. I enjoyed it except where you kept on saying “profit” you really should been saying”discount” IMO. But I appreciate your point that you don’t need to optimize it. Use it where it makes sense for you since you’re still saving money. Note I’m saying you’re saving money (a discount) and not actually making any money (there is no profit).

Great Video. I'm down to just the Wyndham Card, because we stay at higher rated La Quintas, and resort properties on redemption, but not much an earning card. The Bonvoy card now sucks (especially in a few days), and we seldom stay at Hilton or IHG. I think Hyatt is the new SPG card, just waiting till I'm past 5/24. I need a place to redeem a couple free nights per year in resort port areas. Sheraton used to be my answer for 7,000 SPG points.

Have has this card SD for about 4 years now. Love Hyatt properties. I think their 1-4 hotels are all great. I love how cozy Hyatt houses are. Hyatt places are great and the occasional category 4 regency is also pretty great. I’m looking at staying at the park Hyatt in NYC at some point.

Nicee Shifu, was it free for your whole family for the breakfast? Or was there a fee? I'm planning to head to San Diego California, Hyatt Regency Mission Bay in October. Free night expires Nov. 2. HAVE TO USE IT! lol. Great Video, thumbs up!

This room had an ironing board in it?!?!??!? High class!!!! 😀 😀 jk
Seriously, great review of the property and how to package together using that annual free night benefit. I also like how you broke down your reasons for picking the place to give YOU maximum value not some mathematical calculation of maximum value. As our dear friend AskSebby would say, YMMV.

I have my sights on the World of Hyatt card since I just finished with min spend on my CSR. Hopefully I'm under 5/24, loophole dependent!

I have a promotion night and award certificate that I've earned through spend. I've only had the card for about 8 months. What's the best way to redeem those nights in the continental US. I also have 4 club awards.

Wouldn’t it be you’re “saving as oppose to “making profit” for staying at that place ?

Reply
Dominick September 9, 2019 - 7:36 pm

Well said. Using your free night on a place you actually want to go is a better redemption than going somewhere that is the most expensive

Random question unrelated to the video. I am 20 years old with 3 credit cards so far, is it wise to get 2 more with no AF just so further down the road I would have 5 credit cards with long credit history?

Thank you for a down-to-earth, realistic redemption use. Hyatt Place is my go-to for points redemptions in the Hyatt ecosystem. Almost all of them are category 1, some are cat 2, and they generally run 120-150/night; so you're always getting at least 1.5c/p and often 2.2-2.7c depending on time of year. All have been comfortable, welcoming, and breakfast is free with vanilla "member" status at Hyatt place, unlike the more upscale Hyatt properties.

I'm hoping I can get the Hyatt card in the next 6 months. I saw an advertisement for it. I figured it'd be a great value cause of furcons. At least 3 different ones I go/want to go to are at/near a Hyatt. Thanks for the video.

lets see how much harder the Marriott free nights are going to get with the Peak pricing. those free nights are probably going to being effectively a category lower.

Can you please stop saying that you earned money by staying at that hotel with redeeming your free night. It’s not as if you can sell the night to Hyatt and receive cash back. This is a benefit that is offered by a credit card, there is no cash value attached to that free night. It has no monetary value whatsoever. You are placing a value on that free night based on what you would’ve spent if you paid in cash, however you didn’t, and you did not receive the difference in what you would’ve paid if you did pay cash. I never usually have any issues with the videos you post, but this one seemed to be of poor value to your viewers. Do better, be better, don’t upload crap.

Isn't it funny how those of us in the world of "this stuff" call a Hyatt Place a "lower end" hotel? I mean, I stayed at a little local place with no elevator that cost $30 some dollars a few years back … THAT was a "lower end" hotel! 🙂

We were staying a night in Miami before a cruise and chose the Confidente on Miami Beach for our free night. It was fancier than we would have picked if we were paying cash, but for some reason the weekend we were there the price for a room jumped to over 400 dollars so the free night credit gave us ridiculous value

Not sure if applies today, but if I have the old hyatt card and get approved for a new (not upgrade) world of hyatt card. Does that mean I get two free nights? Under one name?

You have to pay two years worth of 95 dollar annual fees to earn one free hotel night.
