by YouTube Team

Learn more about reward credit cards:

When it comes to the best hotel programs, Hyatt and Hilton are some of the best programs. They offer some great hotel credit cards, and the hotel benefits offered from their credit cards are great. But we dig into other benefits like hotel status, lifetime status, point pooling, and much more.

I would rather Hyatt only have one card but not devalue their points than have them bring a premium card but devalue their points. If they bring a premium card I think they'll end up devaluing their points/benefits. I used to think Marriott was good but they seem to have devalued themselves to just meh now.

Nice video Dustin. Both programs are solid. I do like points pooling for both. I actually just got the Hyatt. Just waiting for it to come in the mail. I have Surpass already.

I have to go with Hilton because of the convenience. There are more Hilton properties than Hyatt.

Book a three week stay in the Carnegie suite at Park Hyatt New York and you could earn instant lifetime Globalist Status. That is impossible with Hilton due to the 10 year Diamond status rule.

Even though Hilton properties outnumber the Hyatt, I see the Hyatt as more of a destination brand, with beautiful properties to take the vacation of a lifetime… that cost fewer points (25k max average/night) vs. the Hilton (250k +/night) at a comparable property.

Dont forget… Hilton just started a second campaign for 2019 where Honors Members (Member, Silver, or Gold) receive the same 100% points bonus, per stay, similar to Diamond Members, until January 5th, 2020.

3:30 Great video… Hyatt does need a higher tier card (see other viewer's comments), and a business version of this card. Maybe, if each of us wrote to Hyatt corporate and expressed our interest they might offer one, in a few months… Just a thought.

I can''t switch to Hyatt until I get all three of the other Amex Hilton cards: the Amex Hilton Surpass, the Amex Hilton Aspire, and the Amex Hilton Business.

I have Hyatt Discoverist status and Hilton Diamond status (both from the credit cards). I stay at both hotels semi-frequently (40+ nights a year combined) at about a 5:1 Hilton:Hyatt ratio.

For the trip that I'm currently on, I had a single award night stay at a Hyatt property that was fairly close to the airport and then a paid 6-night (that I'm currently on) at a DoubleTree.
At the Hyatt they upgraded me to a suite without me even asking and were super nice and friendly.
At the DoubleTree, they told me they couldn't upgrade me because I was only eligible for a one-category upgrade and they didn't have any of that category (with a better view) available (which is incorrect – I should be eligible for upgrade to as high as a 1-bedroom suite).

I'm not complaining about not getting an upgrade or even this stay overall (breakfast has been great, the staff have generally been helpful and friendly) but it is interesting to note the difference.

Very thorough comparison. I’d also like to add that the high-end properties affiliated through Hyatt (Alila, SLH, etc) are truly world class- like hands down the most unique and luxurious hotels I’ve ever stayed in and I think a notch above Waldorf, etc through Hilton.

The fact that some of these aspirational locations are 30k points sets Hyatt above Hilton if luxury is the goal of your rewards.

If accessibility and convenience are more important, than Hilton may serve a better value.

Half of hyatt properties are either hyatt places or houses where offers little value to elite members, and a little presence in the international market

The Globalist categorisation doesn’t account for distinct Cities/Countries. The Explorist categorisation doesn’t account for distict type of hotel. The discoveries doesn’t account for lack of registration of events.

Hard to choose! Both are awesome but the customer service and required less points for a free room makes Hyatt attractive and something to consider.

I think you made a mistake at then end of the video at 15:06 when you meant to say Hyatt and said Hilton instead
