Hey Credit warriors, I was just going about my business the other day and then suddenly I thought “hey why don’t I go on a 5 star luxury all inclusive vacation to Mexico” It sounded like a good idea, so I immediately booked a trip. In this video I am going to break it down and show you exactly what I booked, what credit cards I used to earn the maximum points on the booking and in a few days we will have some actual travel and hotel review videos for this trip.

Now the hotel I booked is the Hyatt Ziva Los Cabos, I have already been to the Hyatt Ziva Cancun, its an all inclusive resort, where you can literally eat and drink as much as you want, you may remember my video on that. Which is actually the number 1 video if you search Hyatt Ziva, just a mild flex there. But before we get into talking about the hotel booking, you have to get there right? And you have to get to the airport. So let’s go through this trip in chronological order and I’ll give you the full breakdown.

So I chose to drive to the airport, since getting a taxi there and back is really expensive. And since my flight is at 8am, I would have to get up at 4am to get there on time, so I booked an airport hotel for the night before. But not just any airport hotel, but the new TWA Hotel at JFK.

Now this is a hotel built inside the old TWA terminal, which lay empty for 20 years. You may recognize it from the movie Catch Me if you Can.

It has an amazing roof top pool where you can plane watch and rooms overlooking the airfield and a real old plane that you can go inside.

This cost us $136 for one night, plus taxes, it came to about $170.

Now I also booked parking at the airport for 6 days, right by terminal 8 where we fly out of, and that cost me $196.

TOTAL: $366

The flight we booked is with American Airlines, just economy class, nothing fancy this time, but I booked through the Chase portal, exchanging 47,911 points for a discount of about $700 (at 1.5 cents per point) and I paid the remaining 1,009.65 on my Sapphire Reserve for 3x back on travel.

TOTAL: $1375.65

Since I have One World Ruby through my British Airways Bronze status, I can use the business class check in and I also get preferred and pre-booked seating. At check in we will be able to use our Amex airline credits for free checked bags, we have $500 worth of credits across the Amex Platinum, Schwab Platinum and the Amex Gold. And we will whiz through security with TSA pre check, which we have as part of global entry from the Chase Sapphire reserve and Amex Platinum too.

We can also use that amex airline credit for a free visit to the Admirals club, but to be honest, it isn’t very good, so we may pass.

Alright now we get to the point you have been waiting for the all inclusive resort. So if you don’t know Hyatt has its Ziva brand of all inclusive resorts, they are kind of an aspirational travel booking for many, not quite the level of Maldives over water villa but definitely up there amongst the dream travel objectives for any travel hacker.

They have one in Cancun which I have been to, one in Jamaica, one in the Dominical Republic and two more in Mexico including the Los Cabos one which I just booked.

If you book with points this resort is 20,000 Hyatt points per night, cheaper than the Cancun one, which is 25,000. And if you have more than 2 people in a room, you have to add 10,000 for each extra person above 3 years old, so if you have very young kids you can get them in for free. Hyatt points are easy to earn with the Hyatt credit card or can be transferred from Chase Ultimate Rewards at a 1:1 ratio which makes them super easy to earn.

This time we booked with money for about $400 per night, a total of $1250. It cost more than the base rate because we had two kids in the room as well although one of them is free.

TOTAL: $2625.65

We booked using the world of hyatt credit card from Chase for 9 points per dollar on Hyatt spending.

Come on bud, you should always pay the reminder of your balance with your freedom flex card if it’s attached to your account. You have the same travel protection, get the same 1.5c/point redemption, and will get 5 points/dollar spent on the Chase travel portal for the balance you had. That’s about 2,000 points you missed out on. 🤦🏼‍♂️

So this is how rich people, who are not "really" eligible, are spending the stimulus check on vacations stimulating the Mexican economy with my tax money. Great….

You're a little too close to Grand Caymen up there in the Yucatan, not to go, if you've ever been there?

Question: so if you're booking 2 person in cancun, let's say, is it 25000 + 12500 or just 25000?

Meanwhile, I used my stimulus to pay off my credit card that I used to pay for my final semester of college. Maybe next time.

If I was to book a stay at a Hyatt hotel through Expedia in a package booking including the flight, would I still earn 9x point on the Hyatt stay if I pay with the World of Hyatt card, or do I only earn the 9x by booking the stay through the Hyatt website?

Ziva in Cabo is great, but just know it's not walking distance to Downtown Cabo if you were planning to explore

I've been a fan of the channel for years, but this feels like an April Fools joke.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't stimulus packages meant to revive song businesses and provide groceries for families?

At the very least, you could have paid some of the loan for the land purchase, pal.

Or if you could elaborate on why there's a need for another vacation so soon after your Christmas vacation, we'd understand better.

Dude, we’re going to Los Cabos in 2 weeks! Because of your videos in the last 4 months we have ventured out to Ziva Cancun and then 2 months later to Ziva Cap Cana! I’ve learned so much from your videos. You have my gratitude and I hope to see you someday.

How do the 100 dollar perks work? Is that pay 20 and get a spa treatment or 20 off?

If it's pay and get the perk that's pretty nice

Since you are a Ruby member with BA, a OneWorld partner, you get the first checked bag with AA at no charge on this flight, up to 8 people in the same reservation.

I’m not an accountant (though my CPA says I should be one), but I’m very sure based on what you said at 6:25, you’ll have to pay back the entire $5,600 stimulus back when you file 2021 taxes next year.

I think you should confirm with your CPA/Accountant before everyone watching this video thinks they can get away with doing what you said at 6:25. As a financial shifu, you should be thorough. I do always appreciate the content!

No stimulus money for me! 🤣 Oh well, I’d rather have a higher income than waiting on a stimmy to be deposited. Makes me want to go out there and earn even more money and make my own stimulus. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Oh hey! I'm going to Mexico in May with my girl for the first time. Paying with cash for now, but we're hoping to spice it up next time using points for something fancy.

So you made a video just to make a video. No real savings, no points to dollar transfer info, nothing interesting, but still a video.

Thanks for giving a realistic view here. Too many channels portray like ALL of their travel is covered with points when for many that won’t be the case. Hyatt Ziva is on my list too. Enjoy the trip!!
